3 Idiots Box office updates

Aamir Khan, the man who conquered the box office with Ghajini same time last year, returns yet again on Christmas, this time with a comedy directed by Raju Hirani. The ticket prices for the weekend were hiked by around 100% (double) at some places, not in all cities as reported by the media though.  Neither the makers nor the distributors are to be blamed for the hike, the price of tickets is decided by the multiplex owners. The advance booking that opened earlier this week, was fantastic. The paid previews playing at 2 shows per screen (7PM and 10PM) at multiplexes in select cities were sold out. With Friday being a holiday for Christmas, 3 Idiots will

Aamir too expensive : Vidhu Vinod Chopra

Aamir Khan’s absconding act proved to be an expensive affair for producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who says that Aamir’s promotional activity – of disappearing and appearing in disguises in different parts of the country – was more expensive than making 3 Idiots. “This was a unique concept suggested by Aamir that proved very expensive for me as Aamir doesn’t travel by trains. He traveled by jet planes to make the journey quick as he had to travel to different cities all over India,” said producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Aamir explained that the unique plan was suggested by

Reasons to watch and not watch My Name Is Khan

Whether the reactions are good or bad, positive or negative.. the first look of My Name Is Khan is already the talk of the town. Some reasons to watch out for My Name Is Khan Stars Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, big enough reason, ain’t it?  SRK at the press conference to unveil the trailer claims that the chemistry between him and Kajol is three times more than Dilwale Dulhainya Le Jayenge!! Its different from what Karan Johar has done ever before. MNIK is darker, deals with a Neurological disorder (autism) and also the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks. SRK’s performance. The response so far has been

Ram Gopal Varma on James Cameron’s Avatar!

We received this blog in our mailbox, with a request to publish it here. So here you go, Ram Gopal Varma’s tribute to James Cameron’s Avatar! ******************************* As I stepped out of Imax last night after watching AVATAR in 3D, I hated James Cameron for in comparison to the ultra futuristic vision of his, he made me feel like a pre-historic being of cinema in every which way. AVATAR in 3D is the most mind-blowing cinematic experience anybody can ever hope to have in their entire lifetime. Nearly 3 decades ago I remember being awestruck with Star Wars and now nearly 30 years later AVATAR to me looked 30 years ahead of its time both in its creative output and also in terms of James Cameron’s sheer imaginative power.

Judwa 2 – Salman signs yet another film!

It seems, post the success of Wanted, Salman Khan has suddenly become more serious about his career. He is signing films, left, right and center. What’s good though is, most of them look pretty interesting. After Mr India 2, Salman Khan has been signed on, this time by Sajid Nadiadwala for the sequel of the David Dawan directed 1997 smash-hit Judwa. The movie will star Salman Khan, once again in a double role and the sequel too will be directed by David Dhawan “David is working on giving Salman’s character a special new spin. We’ll give the two Salman’s a very different look and

There is no stopping Akshay Kumar

There is no stopping Akshay Kumar and here is why  His mere presence help sell a lot of tickets, irrespective of how good or bad the movie is. Even some of his average grossers make 40 – 45 crores nett at the box office. No denying the fact that 2009 has affected him, but not his fan-following. If his producers can get the economics of his film right his success-ratio will increase. De Dana Dan, Kambakht Ishq and Blue would have worked at the box office, if not for their high costs. What he needs to do Choose scripts more carefully and work with better directors. Experiment with

Rocket Singh Movie Review

After Chak De India, the expectations are high from the men behind the classic – Shimit Amin (director) and Jaideep Sahni (writer) – who return with Rocket Singh – Salesman of the year, stars Ranbir Kapoor, Gauhar Khan, Shazahn Padamsee, D Santosh, Mukesh Bhatt, Prem Chopra and others. The movie is about Harpreet Singh Bedi (Ranbir Kapoor), a below average student in school and college, who takes up marketing as his career. He joins a computer sales company, AYS, as a trainee. Under a corrupt senior, the job soon turns into one of his worst nightmares. Rocket Singh in short is Harpreet Singh Bedi’s journey from a zero to a hero.

Ranbir Kapoor wanted to be like Hrithik Roshan!

Every newcomer’s dream would be a debut as spectacular as Hrithik Roshan’s, and Ranbir Kapoor was no different. When Ranbir was 18 and dreaming of a career in Bollywood, he saw Kaho Na Pyaar Hai and instantly became a huge fan of the actor. He came across a Hrithik fan who saw his idol and said “Yeh to heera hai, heera”. Since then Ranbir wanted to be like Hrithik, and when he made his debut with Saawariya, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, he wanted his staff to call him Heera. To encourage the Kapoor lad his spot boy, Inder after every shot of

De Dana Dan Box office updates

Akshay Kumar’s De Dana Dan has opened to a fantastic response at the box office, once again reaffirming the stars super-strong fan following. What came as a pleasant surprise are those long queues outside single screens across the country, with poor quality theaters in the remotest areas of Bangalore and Mumbai  bustling with people all excited to catch Akki, Paresh and Suniel once again on the big screen. While the business during the weekends was strong all over the country, its the first working weekday business that holds the key to the

De Dana Dhan Movie Review

Akshay Kumar’s much hyped De Dana Dhan released worldwide today and the expectations quite obviously are high. For one, the film reunites the Hera Pheri team of Akshay Kumar – Paresh Rawal – Suniel Shetty and director Priyadarshan. Over the years, Priyadarshan films that I have loved in particular have been Hera Pheri, Hungama and to a certain extent Hulchul. De Dana Dhan promises more – 25 character actors along with a thrilling water-flood scene as its climax. Story is something, we cannot expect from Priyan’s films. But is it entertaining enough to deserve the price of your tickets? Read on..
