Boxoffice: Shahrukh Khan as Producer

Shahrukh Khan, widely regarded as one of the sharpest minds in the industry, hasn’t enjoyed much success as a producer. So far, he has produced 10 films (including Always Kabhi Kabhi which released today), out of which 4 have done well and the rest have failed to make any impact. Kaal, which he co-produced with Karan Johar, opened well but soon faded away. Below is a list of Shahrukh Khan Films as a Producer (box office verdict in brackets)

Bollywood Biggest Grossers

With the boom of multiplexes, the life of films at theaters has reduced drastically. Gone are days when a film needed a silver jubilee (25 weeks) or a golden jubilee (50 weeks) to be considered a success. These days, most films are out of theaters in a week, yet recover their investment. Films that run longer though, go on to earn bucket loads of money and are termed money-spinners or blockbusters by the trade. Below is a list of 5 such films, which are Bollywood’s biggest grossers ever! (Figures include collections from both overseas and India)

Komal Nahta on 3 Idiots and My Name Is Khan

The whole of the week gone by has had the trade people talk about just one thing – whether Shah Rukh Khan’s My Name Is Khan is a hit or a flop and whether its box-office collections have been bigger than those of Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots. Although comparisons are not fair and are, in fact, odious, it is necessary to talk of the two films in the same breath simply because Fox, the worldwide distributor of MNIK, has been doling out figures to the media, claiming that its film has surpassed all previous records. By implication, it means MNIK has collected more than 3 Idiots. Surprisingly, most of the media people have been buying the Fox story without so much as verifying the same. Actually, not so surprisingly.

Box office: MNIK vs 3 Idiots

Box office comparison between Shahrukh Khan’s My Name Is Khan and Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots. Note: The 1st week figures of MNIK are the official numbers from Fox.

Box office: My Name Is Khan in US

My Name Is Khan opened to record-breaking numbers in US, but dropped sharply during the weekdays and the while business picked up during the 2nd weekend, the collections were around 37% of its first weekend. Detailed list of figures below.

Box office: My Name Is Khan vs 3 Idiots vs Veer vs Ghajini

My Name Is Khan has opened to a huge response in India, but SRK fans expecting the film to beat the opening weekend collections of 3 Idiots, would be disappointed. The film opened to a great response on Friday, but lost close to 2 – 3 crores due to a limited release in Maharastra and few others cities. Saturday saw an unexpected drop at single screens and again lost close to 1 crore in Maharastra. On Sunday, with a release all over, the collections were upto full potential, falling just short of beating the 13.5 crore nett of 3 Idiots. As promised, here is the weekend comparison between My Name Is Khan, Ghajini, 3 Idiots and Veer.

My Name Is Khan Review – By Akhlaq

A very well-written unbiased review by one of our readers, Akhlaq. Worth a read. ******************************** Every life is a journey…pain; joy; love; hate, all are like milestones along the road. Starting points are different, destinations are different and even rout maps a re different as well, but irrespective of these differences, the four milestones are there in each and every journey. MNIK is nothing but such a journey, and what a journey it is !!! A journey of Smiles & Tears, Realism & Exaggeration, Love & Hate. This journey is not only physical, but has a beautiful soul in it as well. First thing First, As a Muslim, I can confidently say that

My Name Is Khan Movie Review

We’ve never really been huge fans of Karan Johar films – Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was good, K3G was okay, KANK was terrible. Hence we were slightly cynical about My Name Is Khan. But the film is special for several reasons; it has one of the biggest stars in the country playing a not-so-perfect character and two, SRK and Kajol return for what could be their last outing together. Do they recreate on-screen magic with MNIK? Read on to find out. Rizwan Khan (Shahrukh Khan) suffering from Asperger’s syndrome, moves to San Francisco after spending most of his life in Mumbai.
