Sultan Box Office Collections: Scores big on second day

Salman Khan’s Sultan was outstanding on its second day at the box office. The film has recorded the 6th highest single-day in the history of the Hindi Film Industry. Previously, only one film this year had crossed the 20 crore mark on a single day (3rd day of Housefull 3, national holiday). Sultan has twice crossed the 35 crore mark in two days (both partial holidays) and should remain above the 20 crore mark throughout its extended weekend.

Sultan Worldwide Box Office Collections

Sultan has set opening day records in Gulf and Pakistan, as people celebrated Eid by watching Salman Khan’s film in theatre. In Pakistan, the response was terrific, as the film managed to surpass the collections of previous highest grossers like Dilwale and FAN – by a margin of more than 50%.

Sultan nearly doubles previous 2016 records

It’s a case of our ‘early estimates’ taking the sheen away from the real achievement of Sultan on Day 1. The film was phenomenal on its opening day at the box office, even though it was ‘Pre-Eid’ and Wednesday wasn’t a full-fledged national holiday either. FAN vs Sultan isn’t a fair comparison, because a more commercial Shah Rukh Khan film would’ve been closer. After all, Dilwale even with a clash, managed to collect 21 crore on its opening day.

Sultan Wednesday Box Office Collections: Early Estimate

Salman Khan reigns supreme at the box office yet again as Sultan made history on its opening day at the box office, recording one of the highest single day collections in the history of the Hindi film industry. As per early estimates, the film has collected Rs 41-42 crore on Day 1. Wednesday was a working day in several parts of the country and holiday in a few others. It was also the day before Eid, so business was affected at a few circuits. The impact of ‘Pre-Eid’ isn’t huge for other films, but for a Salman Khan starrer, the dent is quite significant.

Sultan Day 1 Box Office Collection Update (Wednesday)

Sultan has taken by far the best opening for a film released in 2016. The opening was bumper across all major circuits with occupancy in the high 70s in the morning. In the noon, a few single-screens witnessed minor drops, but majority of theatres that we tracked showed growth with many of them running at 85-90% occupancy.

Opening Response to Salman Khan films

Ever since the beginning of the decade, Salman Khan has been unstoppable at the box office. He’s worked with directors and actresses on debut, done low-budget films that had B-grade production-standards like Jai Ho and featured in films that were directed by his two brothers.

Sultan Advance Booking Report: Final Report

The advance booking of Sultan has set records all across India. Trade sources say, about 25 crore worth of tickets for the entire weekend have already been sold as of Tuesday night, something that no film has ever achieved. The advance booking sales is about 3.5 to 4 times more than any other release this year and could possibly be higher than the advance ticket sales of all 2016 films combined. Almost every multiplex chain has set records.

Salman Khan’s Eid Record: Blockbuster Galore

Salman Khan returns to a festive weekend that he created and has dominated for the last 6 out of 7 years. The only exception was 2013, when the megastar didn’t have a release. It all started with Prabhu Deva’s ‘Wanted’ back in 2009, when Salman was going through the worst phase of his career. The film didn’t do well at multiplexes, but brought back his audience in smaller towns. ‘Wanted’ was a massive hit at single-screens.

Rustom vs Mohenjo Daro: Box Office Clash Analysis

A couple of weeks ago, Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Mohenjo Daro was one of the most awaited films of 2016. The trailer was expected to make a huge impact, giving the Hrithik Roshan starrer a big advantage in the box office clash against Akshay Kumar’s Rustom.

Sultan Runtime compared to other big movies

‘Sultan’ will be Salman Khan’s longest film this decade, as the film is 4 minutes longer than ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ and 10 minutes longer than his biggest grosser ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. While runtime does not make a difference to the lifetime collections of films, it could have a significant impact on the opening day collections – especially for films that are targeting record opening at the box office.
