‘Sultan’ will be Salman Khan’s longest film this decade, as the film is 4 minutes longer than ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ and 10 minutes longer than his biggest grosser ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’.
While runtime does not make a difference to the lifetime collections of films, it could have a significant impact on the opening day collections – especially for films that are targeting record opening at the box office.
A 120-minute film like ‘Dabangg 2’ can be played 6-7 times in a day per multiplex screen, because the ‘turnaround’ time per show will be around 140-145 minutes (time gap between the beginning of one show and the next – which includes runtime of a film plus added time for theatre clean-up, audience exit / enter etc).
Whereas, a film like ‘Sultan’ can only get 4-5 shows per screen, as the ‘turnaround’ time crosses the 3 hour mark and goes to around 190-195 minutes. On an all-India level, this could mean a negative impact of around 10% on Day 1 business.

Longer runtime is not a major issue.if movie will be a good one then it surely cross 40 crore on opening day.in longer runtime movie audience have an opportunity to watch their favourite star for more time.also,Sultan is the only film of salman Khan this year.

And indicine, opening day collections are more dependent on the release day, number of screens , occupancy & the average ticket price and every Salman film (except for jai ho which had relatively low ticket price & ready which was a non holiday BB ) since dabaang has opened to bumper opening irrespective of the runtime.
I don’t see the longer run time affecting the collections of the sultan for the 1st 3-4 days, on the contrary if the extra runtime offers more entertainment & is engaging then it would help the movie in longer run but if those extra mins are boring or unnecessary like in the case of PRDP then surely it would have impact on sultan’s overall collections.

Honestly asking indicine, did you get any inside report from trade or distributors?
Because they way you are defending Sultana since yesterday, it seems something is wrong with the movie.
While there is nothing new in you publishing an article with runtime comparisons of all the biggies (you have been consistently doing this with release of all the previous biggies) , but what baffles me is the choice of words and sentences.
Above paragraph is a solid example of the same.
The film will have a national holiday release which subsidies these runtime kind of factors…A salman Khan film releasing on a national holiday means the opening day records should be broken..
It’s a formidable threat for one and all. Previously, a runtime (read torture) of 120-130 minutes used to cause mental imbalance to every inmate of Lalluland and at times, they even turned violent. Now, I can’t imagine their situation when they will come out from theatre bearing a 168 minutes long torture.
May be, government should promulgate article 352 and impose a national emergency on the very next day of Eid, else law-n-order might go out of control because of these insane auto-drivers.
