Mohenjo Daro Trailer: Trade, Audience Response and IndicineFBO

One of the most anticipated trailers of the year was launched yesterday. There was no launch event or media interaction, but the makers decided to launch the trailer on the Star TV Network, followed by the internet (both at 8:57 PM yesterday). The response, like every other ’much-awaited biggie’, was mixed. When the expectations are high, the chances of disappointing the audience is higher – and that seems to be the case with Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Mohenjo Daro too.

Udta Punjab Hit or Flop: Box Office Prediction

In the last couple of weeks, Udta Punjab has got crores worth of publicity for free. The uncertainty around release, political angle to CBFC’s decision in ordering cuts, court case, hundreds of opinion pieces – all combined to create unprecedented buzz for a film starring Shahid Kapoor in the lead. A film that would have probably struggled for a 6-crore opening (considering genre and adult rating), was now looking at a 10 crore plus start.

Actors with highest number of 100 crore Hindi films

43 films have now crossed the 100 crore mark at the box office in India and almost all of them belong to major male stars in the industry. The only exceptions are Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Grand Masti – both of which were sequels to successful films.

Messed up promotional campaign of FAN vs perfectly planned Sultan

Q. How well are the songs of Sultan received? Has the buzz increased and is the buzz equal to that of Fan? A. No comparison between the promotional campaigns of FAN and Sultan. FAN was the most poorly planned and marketed Shah Rukh Khan film in a decade! They released two teasers and both were out in 2015 – months before the film hit screens. They released the only song in the film (which wasn’t even included in the film), before the theatrical trailer. This resulted in the makers not having units in the last one month to give the audience something new. What were they (YRF) thinking? On the other hand, the same team hasn’t put a step wrong with Sultan. Perfectly announced, shoot went as per schedule with the PR team constantly working at keeping the film in news and they eventually ensured that ‘Raees’ moved out too. The Sultan teaser was well received, trailer was huge and the songs have worked well too. Everything has worked for Sultan so far and it’s all down to content clicking with the audience. How did it go so horribly wrong with FAN – a film that was expected to do 100 crore even in the worst case scenario – while everything seems to be clicking for Sultan?

Rustom vs Mohenjo Daro Screen Count Expectation

Q. How many screens will be given Rustom, if it clashes with Mohenjo Daro? And what will be the lifetime collection of Housefull 3? – Sachin A. It’s still too early to talk about both films, without watching the trailer. The impact of a trailer can make a huge difference, so all eyes will be on the theatrical trailer of Mohenjo Daro. If it manages to create the kind of impact that the trailer (not teaser) of Bajirao Mastani did, then it’ll have a major advantage.

Welcome Back vs Housefull 3: Box Office Comparison

2015 release ’Welcome Back’ and this year’s ‘Housefull 3’ have quite a lot in common and yet there are small differences that can make a big difference at the box office: Welcome Back released a week after ‘Phantom’ and a week before ‘Hero’. Housefull 3 had no major competition, neither the week before or after and it also released during the extremely successful Post IPL period. Welcome Back – 3200 screens vs Housefull 3 – 3700 screens. Both belonged to a popular comedy franchise. Welcome was probably is a little more popular at smaller centres, because the first film had tremendous repeat value – especially on television. Welcome Back didn’t have a major star, while Housefull 3 has a established solo star in Akshay Kumar. Welcome Back was the longer film – 152 minutes (2 hours 32 minutes), while Housefull 3’s runtime was 132 minutes (2 hours 12 minutes). The budget of both films are similar, with Housefull 3 being the slightly more expensive film. But Housefull 3 has performed very well overseas. At the end of Week 1, Housefull 3 has collected Rs 80.1 crore while Welcome Back collected Rs 74.02 crore. The difference between the first week collections of the two films is Rs 6.08 crore. If Housefull 3 follows a similar trend as Welcome Back, it’ll finish with net box office collections of less than 110 crore. But apart from the disadvantage of the ‘Ramzan’ period, Housefull 3 faces no competition at the box office. If Housefull 3 adds around 16-17 crore in its second weekend, the film has a chance of getting close to a total of Rs 120 crore – which looks like the best case scenario for the film from here.

Sultan Music Review

Sultan Music Review by Abhishek Sharma tweets @abhu_sharma The seasoned and supremely talented duo of Vishal-Shekhar have been entrusted with the music direction responsibility of arguably the biggest Hindi movie of 2016 i.e. Yash Raj Films’s ‘Sultan’. Although they have worked before with YRF in many musical hits like ‘Salaam Namaste’, ‘Tashan’, ‘Tara Rum Pum’, ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ and the most recent ‘Fan’; this is going to be their maiden outing with the biggest of them all - Salman Khan.

Housefull 3 Monday (Day 4) Box Office Collections: Early Estimate

Housefull 3 has passed the Monday test with flying colours, as the film has collected Rs 8-8.5 crore on Day 4. The collections are good, considering the fact that multiplex ticket prices drop on Monday and it was also the beginning of the Ramzan period. We had mentioned in our report yesterday, that a good hold will be somewhere between the 8 - 9 crore mark and that’s exactly what ‘Housefull 3’ has achieved on its first weekday at the box office

Hindi Films: Highest Single Day Collections of 2016

In 2016, domestic film business of Hindi films has crossed the 10 crore mark on 20 different days. Akshay Kumar (Housefull 3 and Airlift), Shah Rukh Khan (FAN) and The Jungle Book  dominate the list. Tiger Shroff has made his presence felt in the first half of the year too.

Housefull 3 Sunday Collections: Early Estimate

Housefull 3 has done very well on Sunday at the domestic box office. Multiplex business was up and single-screens, where business was surprisingly below-par in the first couple of days, picked up too. As per early estimates, the film has collected around 20-21 crore on Sunday – giving it a healthy first weekend total of 50 crore plus.
