Housefull 3 Sunday (Day 3) Box Office Collection Update

Housefull 3 has started strongly on Sunday, as business at both single-screens and multiplexes have shown good growth in occupancy for the morning shows. The key for Housefull 3 would now be to sustain the level of business throughout the day, as business for the late night shows at multiplexes will drop.

Top 10 Opening Day Collections of Franchise films in Bollywood

Films that belong to a popular or successful franchise have a big advantage at the box office, especially on the opening day as fans of the franchise throng to theatres to watch the film in theatres. Dhoom 3 got the biggest opening of all time – for a film belonging to a franchise, although Dhoom 2 in 2006 also took a record-breaking earth-shattering opening when it released.

Housefull 3 Day 1 (Friday) Box Office Collection Update

Housefull 3 is struggling to meet expectations on Day 1 at the box office. The opening on Friday morning was good, but what was really expected out of the film was a excellent / bumper opening. It was Akshay’s second film of the year after the critically acclaimed and commercial success of ‘Airlift’. ‘Housefull 3’ also belonged to a major comedy franchise and ‘Welcome Back’ last year had opened very well inspite of not featuring a major star.  There hasn’t been a major release in the last 4-5 weeks either.

Housefull 3 Box Office Opening

Housefull 3 has taken a good start at the domestic box office, even though multiplex business at cities was below par for a big franchise film. It’s the second best opening of the year after Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN, which released on a partial holiday. Single-screens opened well in the morning, both due to the presence of Akshay Kumar and the popularity of the previous ‘Housefull’ films. The average opening at single-screens was around 50-55%.

Housefull 3: Industry awaits the first ‘universal biggie’ of 2016

2016 has been a fairly good year for the Hindi Film Industry. The box office collections of all films combined in the first 5 months of 2016 is higher than the same January – May period last year. But apart from ‘Baaghi’ and ‘The Jungle Book’, no other film has managed to make a mark at smaller centres. In fact, the share of business generated from multiplexes has nearly touched 90% this year.

Sultan IndicineFBO Update

The response to the theatrical trailer of Salman Khan’s SULTAN has well and truly exceeded expectations. The trailer has not only made a huge impact on the internet, but the trade is in a celebratory mood too. At mass centres, 2016 has been a dull year so far and Sultan is expected to surpass all films before the end of its first weekend itself (barring Housefull 3, which is yet to release).

Top 3 Highest Bollywood Grossers: All eyes on Housefull 3 and Sultan

2016 has been a good year so far. Airlift topped January, Neerja became the 2nd highest grosser of February, Kapoor & Sons topped March and FAN became the 3rd highest grosser of April. May has been a poor month, but all eyes are now on Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 3 and Salman Khan’s Sultan. Salman could (actually, should) achieve a record that only belongs to Aamir Khan so far. More on that below. Movies that have topped each month this year have been highlighted in blue colour. January: Airlift became the highest grosser of January, beating the collections of Agneepath and Jai Ho.
