Housefull 3 is struggling to meet expectations on Day 1 at the box office. The opening on Friday morning was good, but what was really expected out of the film was a excellent / bumper opening.
It was Akshay’s second film of the year after the critically acclaimed and commercial success of ‘Airlift’. ‘Housefull 3’ also belonged to a major comedy franchise and ‘Welcome Back’ last year had opened very well inspite of not featuring a major star. There hasn’t been a major release in the last 4-5 weeks either.
But as of 6PM on Friday evening, a 20 crore plus opening (which is what was expected) is certainly out of question and the film is looking at around 13-14 crore on Day 1 at the box office – unless there is a big jump in multiplex business in the night. (Night update below) This would mean, the collections would be about the same as ‘Welcome Back’ and below the first day collections of films like Brothers and Singh Is Bling (holiday release).
A big initial hasn’t come at Akshay Kumar strong holds like East Punjab, C.P Berar, C.I, which is surprising because ‘Housefull 3’ was a big film that was expected to open well across India.
Night update: Housefull 3 has shown decent growth in the night, which means the first day collections of the film is set to be around the 15-16 crore mark. It’s still about 15-20% below expectations, as advantage of a popular franchise is huge. The next two days will be crucial as the film will have to show a positive trend both on Saturday and Sunday to record a healthy first weekend total.
There are no major releases before Salman Khan’s Sultan in the first week of July, so Housefull 3 has ample time to sustain and grow. The trend over the next three days (including Monday) could well decide if the film can take advantage of open weeks throughout June.

Iam a big fan of akshay kumar.
And I had big expectation from housefull 3.
But I am very disappointed with the movie.
Oh my god! It’s shocking..but at the same time it’s good that people are now enough smart and they prefer content on star. The love they showed for a low budget Airlift was phenomenal and the way they are rejecting nonsense HOUSEFULL3 will force film makers to pay more attention on content than star cast and promotion. :)

It may break the 8 year old trend of successful post IPL period. Even though Houseful 3 was more universally appealing, ‘Airlift’ had better hype around the film. This is why a multistarrer with popular franchise will fail to beat the opening day collection of Airlift with ‘limited’ appeal.
Audience has made it clear in past couple of years that they will not chew everything thrown at them in the name of entertainment. Comedy films can also have good content, it doesn’t always have to be slapstick.

Akshay’s pull for a big initial opening day was over. What makes the thing worse is he is returning after success of Airlift, with Multistarrer franchise during post IPL.
Seriously, this is indicating the return of once Flopshay Kumar.
Only meaningful masalah films by the baap of Bollywood, Hirani, will work from now on. No Flopakki, no flopshay…

HF3 will struggle to collect Parking Collections of Fan from Mars…where Fan under performed due to protest by Aliens.
Forget about Fan’s collections from Jupiter,Venus & Pluto.
Although, trailer was a letdown for neutrals, still if it can’t even collect 15 crore with franchise factor and multi-starcast, then it will be a major disappointment, and raise questions about Akshay’s crowd pulling ability even after success of Airlift.
