Housefull 3 is struggling to meet expectations on Day 1 at the box office. The opening on Friday morning was good, but what was really expected out of the film was a excellent / bumper opening.
It was Akshay’s second film of the year after the critically acclaimed and commercial success of ‘Airlift’. ‘Housefull 3’ also belonged to a major comedy franchise and ‘Welcome Back’ last year had opened very well inspite of not featuring a major star. There hasn’t been a major release in the last 4-5 weeks either.
But as of 6PM on Friday evening, a 20 crore plus opening (which is what was expected) is certainly out of question and the film is looking at around 13-14 crore on Day 1 at the box office – unless there is a big jump in multiplex business in the night. (Night update below) This would mean, the collections would be about the same as ‘Welcome Back’ and below the first day collections of films like Brothers and Singh Is Bling (holiday release).
A big initial hasn’t come at Akshay Kumar strong holds like East Punjab, C.P Berar, C.I, which is surprising because ‘Housefull 3’ was a big film that was expected to open well across India.
Night update: Housefull 3 has shown decent growth in the night, which means the first day collections of the film is set to be around the 15-16 crore mark. It’s still about 15-20% below expectations, as advantage of a popular franchise is huge. The next two days will be crucial as the film will have to show a positive trend both on Saturday and Sunday to record a healthy first weekend total.
There are no major releases before Salman Khan’s Sultan in the first week of July, so Housefull 3 has ample time to sustain and grow. The trend over the next three days (including Monday) could well decide if the film can take advantage of open weeks throughout June.
Check out the opening day collections of all three Housefull films (growth over the previous film included in brackets – quite clearly, Housefull 3 hasn’t lived upto expectations even though it has recorded a good first day):
- Housefull (2010) - 9.41 crore
- Housefull 2 (2012) – 13.97 crore (48%)
- Housefull 3 (2016) – 15.21 crore (9%)

Think twice before clashing with Hrithik. This is not only shocking but embarrassing. Competing with Arjun kapoor opening day forget Sid and Ranveer and John. Just slightly ahead of Tiger. Nemesis is always lurking on the doors especially when people like @Sunn Chechi started spoiling this site. 70% negative comments from we users is because of @Sunny chechi. if I were Ajay fans now I feel use this as pay back. Nothing they said about him Franchise and benefits of independence day. Now most sites are claiming Ipl is 4th biggest mor than independence day. Brothers failed independent day but we overlooked it. Tmk failed Xmas overlooked now this man can’t even achieved half of Ajay opening day with franchise. This shows industry today trade pundits only give Greek god,Aamir Salman Ajay Srk the nods. 2nd part of the year now MD Shivaay Dangal Sultan will show akki fans how it’s not easy to have big opening. housefull 3 is a mediocre movie and i urge even all akki fans to not waste their hard earned money on such stupid comedy films … yes definitely the quality of audiences have improved a lot and now they will not watch anything at will .. they will reject a film if its content is mediocre or below avg or bad no matter how many big superstars are their . content is the real king . starcast and promotion may fetch u big numbers at the box office athe the most till weekend but after tat real game begins .. and this collection of h3 will affect rustom fate the box office bcoz its releasing with MJ..

What made you think to compare akki with Srk???I appreciate akshay but his power to bring in audience on the ist day is always lower than Khans and even akki fans know the fact-Dilwale was a universal appealing film which did 22cr day 1 with a big clash and that’s too on non holiday-FAN did 19 cr with no support from the mass centres and it was expected even before release that it will not do good in mass centres.So with a universally appealing movie the real value srk can give even today is 26-28 cr non-holiday-
I Believe anything below 20 cr is a disappointment for such a big film feaTuring a superstar.
Here are the reasons why it happend.
A. Trailer recieved mixed to negative response.
B. Music could not found appreciation
C. Hindi movies are going through downward slide and it seems nothing can stop it.
D. Except for die hard fans almost everyone waits for public reports to come out including me.
However, all is not lost for the film and it has shown decent growth. If it can grow on Saturday n have a massive sunday, things will fall in place.

16 crore is still disappointing…it had to go over 20 crore..last year brothers was seen as a 20 crore opener for Akshay Kumar but it faltered..this year Houseful 3 was expected but again it is disappointing…If a big budgeted universally appealing Akshay Kumar starrer is not performing at his own strongholds then definitely something somewhere is wrong…

Housefull 3 collection 16 crore is good.if collection less than 16 crore I am disappointment.
Don’t worry guys it has collected much better than Indicine saying 13 14 Cr struggling , let the final no. Come it will be more than 15 Cr , i think there are many English words in the film, i don’t know how single screens will take it.lets hope for the best , it will cross more than house full 2
