Housefull 3 is struggling to meet expectations on Day 1 at the box office. The opening on Friday morning was good, but what was really expected out of the film was a excellent / bumper opening.
It was Akshay’s second film of the year after the critically acclaimed and commercial success of ‘Airlift’. ‘Housefull 3’ also belonged to a major comedy franchise and ‘Welcome Back’ last year had opened very well inspite of not featuring a major star. There hasn’t been a major release in the last 4-5 weeks either.
But as of 6PM on Friday evening, a 20 crore plus opening (which is what was expected) is certainly out of question and the film is looking at around 13-14 crore on Day 1 at the box office – unless there is a big jump in multiplex business in the night. (Night update below) This would mean, the collections would be about the same as ‘Welcome Back’ and below the first day collections of films like Brothers and Singh Is Bling (holiday release).
A big initial hasn’t come at Akshay Kumar strong holds like East Punjab, C.P Berar, C.I, which is surprising because ‘Housefull 3’ was a big film that was expected to open well across India.
Night update: Housefull 3 has shown decent growth in the night, which means the first day collections of the film is set to be around the 15-16 crore mark. It’s still about 15-20% below expectations, as advantage of a popular franchise is huge. The next two days will be crucial as the film will have to show a positive trend both on Saturday and Sunday to record a healthy first weekend total.
There are no major releases before Salman Khan’s Sultan in the first week of July, so Housefull 3 has ample time to sustain and grow. The trend over the next three days (including Monday) could well decide if the film can take advantage of open weeks throughout June.

- Housefull (2010) - 9.41 crore
- Housefull 2 (2012) – 13.97 crore (48%)
- Housefull 3 (2016) – 15.21 crore (9%)
Guys let’s wait and watch.The day hasn’t ended yet.And this was a non holiday. I’m not defending the opening or anything, but let’s wait till the final figures come out.There may be a chance that there will be a jump during the night shows,and the film will get an opening of around 18 crores.Hoping for the best for Bollywood!
If the collection is 14-15cr then its lower side.expecting some thing around 17-18cr.

Why did they unnecessarily change the Music Directors ? None of the songs can make any impact among masses. That badly affected the opening.
I’m Akki’s hardcore fan. But, i really expected the movie to fetch a mediocre response due to the extremely poor music and its lyrics. The movie is actually not bad. Even critics’ review are better ythan some so called brainless comedy movies.
Another factor that could have possibly affected the opening collection is the content. It is much similar to Humshakaal. The excitement of those who have watched the trailer has been killed right after the trailer was unveiled.
But, hope the movie continues to do weel like its predecessors.
now akki fans will be milkha singh and now they got their answer because they are saying that akshay is bigger superstar than SRK and 1st day collection of housefull 3 proved them wrong. SRK gave 19 + crore on first day with a totally off bit film which was only SRK show and last but not the least that HF3 has more advantages like- more screens than fan, big cast , entertainment gener , big franchise , music and still can’t cross FAN’s opening day number shame Shame a big big Shame and lets don’t talk about overseas business because everybody know who is BIGGEST BOLLYWOOD SUPERSTAR IN THE WORLD (Worldwide and overseas wise )

We wants Welcome type movie not Like Hamshakal. Housefull 3’s low opening due Flop director. Riteish & Akki is good in comedy but Abhishek not. No good Songs no good Comedy
H 1 & 2 have very good songs.

FAN had benefit from partial holiday otherwise even 13 crore was difficult for it. While Houseful 3 was 100% non holiday.
Akshay’s highest grosser non holiday – Rowdy Rathore 134 crore
Srk’s highest grosser non holiday – FAN 85 crore

The buzz was fake and missing. My friends hardly waiting for this movie and hardly knows any song. Somehow first trailer didn’t pulloff the excitement and not many people recommend others to watch out songs and trailer.

Welcome was loved by family and best after Hera Phera. Welcome Dialogues were hilarious and famous and starcast also bigger than Housefull 1 and 2. Only “Aaaihhhh” is popular from Housefull series.
If some don’t believe this then see the initial of Welcome 2 even without Akshay Kumar. Housefull 3 doesn’t click probably because songs failed and then awareness.

The biggest problems for movies this year is the unrealistic expectations set by fans and websites which tracks boxoffice collections. This is leading to a bitter disappointment for everyone. Even for Sultan, the realistic expectations should be 28.5 to 30 cr opening and 220 cr lifetime. If the movie exceeds it, then its jolly good. But a trade website should advertise it on this level only because trust me it will take only content to go above 180 CRs even on a eid holiday. No star power or release date could help a film go above 180. Those factors will help the initials and will help the movie to reach 150-180 window after that its the story which will do wonders or blunders
