Drastic fall in footfalls for Bollywood movies

The number of people watching movies in a theatre is dropping alarmingly fast with each passing day. Irrespective of the pre-release promotions and hype, almost 90% of the films are not even getting a good opening at the box office. The month of November 2014 was probably one of the worst for Hindi Cinema, and the dull period continued across January with the only exception being films like ‘PK’, ‘Baby’ and ‘Badlapur’. 

Dum Laga Ke Haisha Weekend Box Office Collections

Dum Laga Ke Haisha has collected Rs 6 crore in its first weekend at the box office. The film took a poor star on Friday, but showed excellent growth over the weekend. In fact, the Sunday collections was 2.5 times the business on Friday.

Final Predictions for Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Ab Tak Chappan 2

This week, 2 new films are scheduled to release in theatres. Yash Raj Films’ Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Nana Patekar’s Ab Tak Chappan 2. YRF’s Dum Laga Ke Haisha starring Ayushmann Khurrana will be the biggest release at multiplexes this week, but last week’s Badlapur is still going strong at the box office, so exhibitors are likely to give the film as many or more shows as compared to the YRF film. 

Badlapur Monday (Day 4) Collections

Sriram Raghavan’s latest release Badlapur was rock-steady at the box office on Monday, as the drop from Friday was around 40%. The film has collected Rs 4.25 crore on Day 4 to take its total India business to Rs 28.5 crore. Roy Total Box Office Collections and Verdict

Ranbir Kapoor’s Roy has crashed at the box office on its 2nd Friday, thereby joining the long list of failures this year. The film opened very well last Friday and showed decent growth because of Valentine’s Day on Saturday. But since then, it has dropped every day except on Maha Shivaratri (Day 5).

Top 10 Opening Day Collections of 2015

With Badlapur, Varun Dhawan has emerged as one of the most bankable young stars in the industry. The Rs 7.2 crore opening of Badlapur is probably bigger than the opening of his last film ’Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’, when factors like genre and adult rating are taken into consideration. Also, Badlapur released on just 1650 screens. The average collections per screen is the highest of 2015 so far.

Badlapur Day 1 (Friday) Box Office Collections

Varun Dhawan’s Badlapur has collected Rs 7.25 crore on its opening day at the box office, which is the third highest first day collections this year after Roy (10.41 cr) and Baby (9.3 cr). Badlapur has performed well in cities like New Delhi, Noida, Mumbai, Pune and a few others. Mysore circuit cities like Bangalore and Mangalore took a slow start, but picked up towards the end of the day.

Baby Total Box Office Collections in India, Overseas, Worldwide

Akshay Kumar’s Baby is still running on limited shows in Week 5, but the film is set to end its run with net box office collections of around Rs 94.5 crore. The Neeraj Pandey film has collected Rs 94.05 crore in 4 weeks. It is the only film since November, apart from PK, to have sustained long enough to have a month long run at cinemas.
