Varun Dhawan’s Badlapur has done well in its first week, with net box office collections of Rs 37.75 crore. The film opened very well last Friday, showed good growth on Saturday and held steady on Sunday even though it competed against a cricket match.
Weekdays were always going to be crucial for the film and Badlapur passed the test with flying colours. The Sriram Raghavan film was steady throughout the week.
Despite competition from new releases like Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Ab Tak Chappan 2 this week, Badlapur has held steady at the box office this morning. If the film picks up towards the end of the day, it could beat the collections of both the new releases.
Badlapur is the first ‘Clean Hit’ of 2015 and the only film to recover all its costs through theatrical business.

I hv to admit today that I had hugely underestimated varun as both an actor and a star.he was always one of the strongest pillar of youngistaan and I had decently liked all his mvz,his performances but nvr thought he will b capable to give an excellent performance which he has amazingly pulled of in badlapur.I just luved his performance mainly in first half where he brilliantly portrayed the transformation of a young,cool,responsible man into a depressed,devastated,clueless man who for 15 years stores all his anger and thrust for revenge deep inside himself
the scene where he suddenly starts stammering on seeing yami take her last breath or the scene where he gets off the train in badlapur station,walks cluelessly in front of a truck and gets bashed by them,the scene where he mocks nawaz,scenes btwn him and huma etc all showcase how fast varun has evolved into a superb actor

What’s Good: Surprisingly, YRF’s most honest film amongst the recent times. It is a great script filled with nostalgia for those who have grown up in the bygone era of 80s and 90s. There is incredible detailing of characters and it is enough to find an instant connect. Dum Laga Ke Haisha could be a mirror for quite a lot people who have first hand experience of such situations.
What’s Bad: If only the director had stuck to creating a bond between its characters without the help of the competition. Also a scene or two in the second half were easily avoidable as they bring no effect to the story. Some may find it slow, although the pace was fine for me.
Loo break: Utilize the interval only!
Watch or Not?: After really long, we come across a love story that is real and incredibly believable. Watch Dum Laga Ke Haisha for its natural flavour minus the drama. This film will entertain you throughout its run time.
