Badlapur Monday (Day 4) Collections

Sriram Raghavan’s latest release Badlapur was rock-steady at the box office on Monday, as the drop from Friday was around 40%. The film has collected Rs 4.25 crore on Day 4 to take its total India business to Rs 28.5 crore.

Since the film is performing well at multiplexes, a drop of around 40-50% is normal because tickets are much cheaper on weekdays.

The Varun Dhawan starrer is performing well in the Mumbai circuit. Major cities in NCR Region were steady. Overall, the film is set for a steady run at the box office. We expect the first week business to be somewhere around the 38-39 crore, which would ensure complete recovery of its investment in Week 1 itself.

Badlapur is well on course to be the first clean hit of 2015 and also the only film to recover all its through theatrical business. Almost all other movies so far (Like Roy for example) have relied on satellite and other rights to recover costs.

  • Why such words such as ‘investment’ n ‘recovery’ are being circulated ….?? Are the makers, producers n Eros desperate to get ‘Hit’ tag ??
Alone , Khamoshiyan also recovered investment ! But they r not hit..
BOI figure is 3.7 cr.. It says that badlapur had big drop on monday …. n figures r 26cr…
So it will not be a clean ‘hit’ as declared by sites ..

    Do Miss The Ending

    There’s a very old saying-
‘All’s well that ends well’ and this saying is even more important for thrillers. But unfortunately sriram raghvans psychological thriller badlapur suffers from a disappointing climax.I know the climax must hv looked brilliant on paper but it gives u zero emotional punch while leaving the theatre and thats wat prevents this well made, nicely acted, entertaining thriller to become a superb film

Badlapur is the story of Raghu(varun),an young, happy, successful ad film maker who is leaving a dream life with his lovely wife(yami in a cameo) and his cute kid.But raghu’s beautiful life is shattered when during a robbery escape his wife and kid gets accidentally killed. The two robbers are nawaz and vinay.while nawaz asks vinay to escape with the money nawaz himself gets caught by the police. He tells the cops that vinay is the killer and he has hidden himself in an unknown place with all the money. The court unsatisfied with his answers punishes him with 20yrs of imprisonment.

On the other hand varun is simply unable to come in terms with the huge loss in his life and goes into depression quitting his Job.He tries to find some comfort by repeatedly sleeping with nawaz’s prostitute gf(huma) but still struggles to escape from his pains. He finally decids to wait for nawaz’s imprisonment tenure to end and then take revenge from nawaz and vinay.

Rest of the film is about how a soft hearted, energetic varun changes into a grey shaded, revenge hungry beast who can cross all moral and law barriers to avenge the loss of his lovely family. There are lot of twists to this engaging tale backed by many heart touching scenes, superb dialogues, strong performances, good music but a disappointing climax.

Hats off to sriram and his partner for writing such a good story, strong screenplay that keeps u entertained and engaged almost till the end.The performances everyone in supporting cast is superb but I personally loved the performances of huma and radhika who look really hot in the film.nawaz as usual is brilliant and his role seems like a continuation from his funny, psycho villain avatar in kick.Varun dhawan is a complete revelation in the film and gives an excellent performance.

Music by sachin jigar is top notch and so r the cinematography and production design

Despite heaping so much praise at the film I m forced to give the film not more than 7.5/10.Only if they could hv done away with that excessively philosophical climax and instead went with a simple one badlapur would hv been a gem of a film

    Rating-7.5/10
Verdict-Good but could have been better

2nd good film of this year after Baby

  • Nipun’s short review of Badlapur:

Badlapur, directed by Sriram Raghavan is a dark, intense, well-twisted and impressively acted film!

Movie starts with a Bang! Raghu(Varun Dhawan)’s wife(Yami Gautam) and son gets killed by two criminals( laik aka Nawaz Siddique and another man) after a bank-robbery and then Raghu starts a journey of taking “Badla” of those death! there is a genuine thrill through-out the film. Movie is never predictable and keep you engaged! Several scenes including the ones of Laik’s jail experience and the one where the female officer talking with Laik’s mother to know about him, impress big time. Other interesting scenes were the one where Kogo(Radhika Apte) is forced by Raghu to sound like being raped, the one where Raghav kills the couple(kogo and her husband, the another criminal) and so on. I loved the last twist in the climax.

The plot is smartly-twisted and you cann’t stop thinking about what will happen in next moment. Editing is good. Sound design and Background score are simple, yet “perfect”! Cinematography is simple. Songs are perfectly-placed. Kudos to Composers Sachin-Jigar. I found all the three tracks wonderful.

But, the greatest strength in the film lies in the performances! All the ladies have played their part very well. Yami is sweet. Huma Qureshi, Radhika Apte and Divya Dutta are brilliant in their parts. Even the ladies who played the roles of detective and Liak’s mother, have shined too.
But yes! The movie belongs to the two leading men. Varun delivers the best performance of his career. He was great as the guy with a revenge-taking mood. But then again, I wanted him to look more mature in those scenes with his son like the one where he asks him(his son) to eat. But over all, he is very much impressive. And undoubtedly, The best performance belongs to Nawaz. How can one be this great! I just couldn’t stop thinking about his character even after I finished watching the film. He makes a huge impression here.

Even though it has so many things to be admired, I wanted the movie to be more clear. A few times it will confuse you. The last song in the end was unnecessary. But these small things can be neglected.

Over all, Badlapur is best film of 2015 so far and it works mostly for its memorable characters. I am going with a strict three and a half stars. “Not perfect, but very good!”

    RATING: 3.5/5

  • Bajrangi Bhaijaan will revive Eros …. After flops like Aj,linga,Tevar ..and this crawling Average Badlapur..Boi says 3.7cr figure and also big drop…i won’t belive it to be a hit at 2500 screens at high landing cost…

    Waiting for Bajrangi Bhaijann..

  • Some buddhas plagiarised n repetitive review was much better than this sites resident not so strict critic nipung…!

  • It will max be Semi hit by this trend= 47 Crores life time. it needed 48 crore to become a Clean Hit….writing was on the wall that even with such low budget you can not sell a vulgur remake of LAW ABIDING PERSON…only saving grace JEE KARDA and NAWAZ acting

  • Such an amazing film- worth a repeat watch in theatres for sure unlike baby- best entertaining film of the yr so far.

  • @ Indicine this is my third time please post article of first look of Airlift film . U have post katti batti film first look . Akki sir looking handsome in Airlift film .

  • well have just seen the movie…it’s good…. but remembered me of mission kashmir of hr n sanjay…. yyyy???
because went to watch badlapur for varun ( i like him after rk among new actors)
but came out with the huge impression of nawaz-ud-din…
undoubtedly, film belongs to only n pnly nawaz…it’s almost the same scenario…
people went to watch mission kashmir for hr…but came out praising sanjay….
it doesn’t mean that hr was not good or varun isn’t good …it’s just that sanjay in MK n now nawaz in badlapur are way ahead then hr n varun…
