Is Akshay Kumar a threat to the top spot?

Akshay Kumar has been around in the industry for 20 years now and the count of his successful movies would most definitely be greater than those of Khan’s but he has never posed a serious threat to any of the reigning Khan’s for the top Spot. Rowdy Rathore: 100 crores in India

Rowdy Rathore is on a historic run at the box-office.  In 10 days, the film has crossed the 100 crore mark and should go past Agneepath, the biggest grosser of the year so far, in Week 3. After a huge first week of 78 crores, the film continued it’s smashing run with a 22 crore second weekend – which is the third highest ever after 3 Idiots and Dabangg. The second weekend is also the biggest of the year, ahead of Agneepath by 6.5 crores and Housefull 2 by 2.5 crores.  

Shanghai Weekend Collections: Decent numbers

The trade seems to be hell-bent on writing off Shanghai as a disaster, but considering the kind of film that it was (non-massy, dark) the weekend collections are decent. In comparison, Kahaani too opened similarly but showed better growth over the weekend. But, the big difference would be the appreciation factor.  While Kahaani did very well after the first weekend as it was carrying fantastic reports, Shanghai is unlikely to trend similarly as the word-of-mouth is mixed. It should wrap up under 20 crores nett. Disappointing, but apart from independent distributors, the makers won’t lose money. Commission earner.
