Gone are days when a film needed a silver jubilee (25 weeks) or a golden jubilee (50 weeks) to be considered a success. These days, most films are out of theaters in a week, yet recover their investment. Films that run longer though, go on to earn bucket loads of money and are termed money-spinners or blockbusters by the trade. I Hate Luv Stories Box office Update

Dharma Productions I Hate Luv Stories starring Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor is a box office HIT. The film did Rs 32 – 33 crores of business in Week 1, followed by a decent (although slightly below expectations) second  weekend of Rs 6 crores. Without much competition in the coming weeks (until Khatta Meeta releases on 23rd) the film should cross the 45 crore mark. What the success of the film means to all those involved First hit for Imran Khan since his super successful debut with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. His last two films Kidnap and Luck were box office disasters. First career hit for Sonam Kapoor, her first two films Saawariya and Delhi 6 flopped. Biggest hit in the last decade for Dharma Productions for films not starring Shahrukh Khan. Their other productions like Kurbaan, Wake Up Sid, Dostana, Kaal didn’t do quite as well. Overall business-wise, I Hate Luv Stories has lived upto expectations.

Raavan Box Office Prediction

For Abhishek Bachchan, Raavan is one of the most important films of his career. Its his most ambitious project to date and after duds like Drona and Delhi 6, Abhishek quite desperately is in need of a solo-hit. For Reliance Big Pictures, after suffering huge losses with Kites, they’d be hoping that Raavan goes the Rajneeti way. Both films have one thing in common, both are adaptations of popular Indian epics. Prakash Jha for Rajneeti was inspired by Mahabharatha and Mani Ratnam’s Raavan is based on Raavan. Unlike Kites and Rajneeti (both films opened to a bumper response), Raavan is likely to completely rely on word-of-mouth. If the movie is good, the WOM should be positive and the film after a good opening should hold steady during the weekdays. If the WOM is negative, Raavan is likely to go the Kites way, just that the weekend collections should be much lesser.
