My Name Is Khan Box Office Prediction

These predictions are real hard to get right, simply because box office is very unpredictably and a lot depends on the merits of a film. But a film like My Name Is Khan, irrespective of how it turns out to be, is likely to open to huge numbers. The first weekend will no doubt be record breaking, both overseas and India.

Here is our prediction for the year’s most awaited release – My Name Is Khan directed by Karan Johar starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol!

  • Opening weekend – 30 crores minimum, could even be as high as 38 – 40 crores including paid previews.
  • Week 1 (if loved): 60 crores plus, could easily beat Ghajini.
  • Week 1 (if mixed): 55 – 60 crores
  • Week 1 (if disliked): 50 – 53 crores
  • Lifetime (if loved): 110 – 120 crores. The repeat value is unlikely to be as high as 3 Idiots.
  • Lifetime (if mixed): 100 – 110 crores.
  • Lifetime (if disliked): 75 – 80 crores

Overseas, the film is likely to beat the record of 3 Idiots even if the reactions are mixed, mainly due to the wide release and the SRK – Karan – Kajol fan-following. $20 million plus is a possibility if the film is loved.

Indian box office numbers will be more interesting though, here are some reasons why

  • Aamir Khan currently holds the record for two of the biggest money spinners ever – Ghajini and 3 Idiots. While MNIK is not expected to break the records set by 3 Idiots, it will be interesting to see if the film can beat the 15 month old Ghajini in India.
  • Can MNIK beat the opening weekend record of 3 Idiots?
  • Can MNIK beat the opening week record of Ghajini or even 3 Idiots?

Do tune into Indicine. We’ll keep you updated on My Name Is Khan.

    Adii..everybody should welcome gd movies..it’s a gd movie…cheer up..

Nauman..we ‘ll wait for ur review..

  • @bristi ..hahaha datz y SRK gets good reviews coz most of his fans are interested in reviews only :) rather than just going.I think this thing only happens with Salman or Akki where fans just go n watch movie without showing interest in reviews.

@adiii ..Yes keep on waiting.I would have bashed MNIK like u did 4 Veer but then somebody on thread said we are Sallu Bahe’s fanz n we need to have a big heart like him.I will try to go to cinema 4 MNIK coz its always gud to enjoy gud cinema on Big Screen …

  • Bristi

  • Hina

hey ticket isnt avaible here.all multiplex mostly full. so i wanna enjoy my fav star movie in ma fav theatr.
i m waiting becoz still i cant see mnik.

  • Guys why you people are critising each other unnecessarily.. in a recent interview sharukh has said that “dont make expectations with MNIK” ..

what to say more, when sharukh himself is not confident about the film.. just wait till tomarrow and if it is a crap then it will be discarded by the masses itself .

I was returning to Delhi from my parental home in downtown and found there is absolutely no craze or curiosity about this movie, only the major metro cities and the Internet is heavily used for the publicity..

and dont beleive on the critics reviews or the shivsena activities, it all a planned marketing program to attract public attention and to publicize the film..

seems like a dumb product sold at heavy price..

  • Adii…u were so busy with ur animation world that u did not gt time to book the tckt..

BTW have u associated with any animated comercial..or film..?It’s nice job..

Hina…ya it’s our time to say….Srk fan’s go for the whole package..not just for Srk…

  • Indicine ..I am waiting 4 ur review :) I just talked to Nauman on phone n by looking at the story-line I found alot of flawz it looks un-realistic n over the top but Nauman really loved MNIK..Taran has striked again by giving 4.5.. But I have a feeling u ppl will have a different opinion :)

  • Hina
MNIK is really good movie and u will love it too.
what u have openion about my name is khan movie is not like that it is really diffrent movie.

  • @nauman ..I am really sensitive about few issues.N I can’t b quiet about my religion.Even if Salman does such stuff I will go against him.Thats y i always say Khuda K liye says it all.

  • BAJRANG DALA (similar to Shiv sena) threatened to disrupt the screening of My Name Is Khan in Orissa

Shahrukh Khan’s film My Name is Khan is akin to controversy. First, it was the Shiv Sena, who threatened to ban the film, then joined the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and now Orissa unit of the Bajrang Dal.

Orissa unit of the Bajrang Dal has threatened to disrupt the screening of My Name is Khan in the state if Shahrukh fails to offer apology for supporting the inclusion of the Pakistani cricketers in the IPL.

Subash Chouhan, national co-convenor of the Bajrang Dal, said that they would not allow the screening of My Name is Khan in the state unless Shahrukh apologise for his comments. He added that the actor acted like an agent to Pakistan by raising his voice for the cause of its cricketers.

  • Hina…u know ur religion better.as u have respect towards it….btw MNIK’s dir. Kjo doen not know all the aspects of that..that’s wy u can find the faults easily..

Nauman is also staying at a nonmuslim country..so he can overlook..those faults..

  • Box Office: MNIK advance bookings: Better than Karan Johar’s Qurbaan, but down from top
    Thursday, February 11, 2010

My Name is Khan’s box office bookings are good in multiplexes in muslim heavy regions (Delhi, Hyderabad, parts of Bombay where it may open) and not so good outside. Claims of a 80% advance booking across India are hallucination as in some theaters, bookings are not even 8% forget 80%. Distribution and their PR reps at theaters are painting a far rosier picture in the media than it actually is. But it may not be necessarily a disaster like Kurbaan either, which it will be recalled was too a Karan Johar movie made on a similar theme of a muslim man with Hindu wife thrown in to boot in US after 9/11 (starring a Khan, Saif Khan and Kareena Kapoor). On average the advance is about 25%, with best slottings in metros like Hyderabad and Delhi, which have high muslim populations. Parts of Mumbai city which have this demographic have a similar pattern. In Kolkata the bookings at multiplexes like Fame at Highland park are in the 20% range even as tons of screenings are being conducted. The morning show is booked at 85%, ostensibly by people looking to make a statement, while rest of the 15 shows are currently booked at 5%. In interiors the response is poor, though again in some places the polarized demographic turrnout will see 80% in some theaters, 5% in others. The film has almost 40% dialogues in English and is set in US. This is why a clean release in Maharashtra is critical for MNIK’s survival. The current benchmark holder, 3 Idiots generated almost 70 crores of its 180-190 crore national net off Bombay territory.

  • adii, nauman reality check karo . Maharashtra mein advance booking below 8% . if this film will not release in Maharashtra then it will be box office disaster . dont mind its reality
