3 Idiots Record: Which film can break it?

3 Idiots released during Christmas 2009 and broke every possible record that existed back then. The film did about Rs 80 crores in Week 1 and the word-of-mouth was so good that it more than tripled its first weekend collections!

3 Idiots was a rare combination of the biggest actor in the country (Aamir Khan) paired with one of the most popular female stars (Kareena Kapoor) and in-arguably the most commercially successful director of the last decade (Rajkumar Hirani). A director who connects with both the masses and the urban audiences.

And like pointed out by one of our readers in the comments section, it requires a real special film to break the lifetime records set by 3 Idiots.

So which amongst the upcoming films are capable of beating the Rs 200 crores record set by 3 Idiots? Here are 5 films that we think, might pose a threat.

Note – we assume the all the films below will be liked, because otherwise there is absolutely no chance of coming close to 3 Idiots.

  • Bodyguard – Going by the trailer that has just released, Salman Khan has yet another box office monster. A sure-shot blockbuster unless something goes terribly wrong. It has Kareena  who commands a strong fan-following of her own. Director Siddique has experience on his side, but has never directed a Hindi film before. Chances of Bodyguard beating 3 Idiots – 40%.
  • Ra One – Shahrukh Khan’s dream project and be rest assured, the superstar will be going all out to promote it. It releases during the 5 day Diwali weekend and is likely to beat the opening week record currently held by Dabangg (80.5 crores). But for it to beat the 3 Idiots record, it has to be exceptionally good.  Chances of going past the 200 crore mark – 70%.
  • Don 2 – Going by the lifetime collections of Don 1, the sequel is unlikely to come close to 3 Idiots. Even at its best, this SRK – Priyanka starrer will fall well below the 150 crore mark. The only reason we have included Don 2 is because it releases without any major competition during the Christmas weekend. Chances of beating 3 Idiots – 35%.
  • Krrish 3 – Some of territories have already been sold to distributors, which clearly shows that the superhero film has massive demand already. Rakesh Roshan is one of the most successful commercial directors ever and him teaming up with his superstar son after 6 long years ensures a earth-shattering initial. If good, Krrish 3 has great chances of going past 3 Idiots since it most likely will release in 2013 – 80%
  • Dhoom 3 – Aamir Khan in a Dhoom film. Enough said. It all comes down to  Vijay Krishna Acharya though, who last directed the disastrous Tashan. But when Aamir is there, All izz always well!  And yes, releases during Christmas 2012. Chances  of beating 3 Idiots – 95%.

What do you think? Any other film that can break the 200 crore record? Tell us, below in the comments section.

  • Till now it’s still:
    1-Aamir
    2-SRK
    3-Sallu
    4-Hrithik
(These 4 are the pototional superstars at this time)

  • @Surajit: Sorry dear here i tend to DISAGREE with you totally. I admit it is admirable for SRK and Akshay to come this far without any family connection. But, godfathers don’t exactly help you sustain for 23-25 years, nor do they earn you fans or success. In case of Aamir, firstly he doesn’t belong to a lineage as powerful or hyped up as Kapoors or Bachchans. Secondly he is only a nephew of filmmaker Nasir Hussain and not a son of superstar parents. Nasir Hussain was successful till 60s and 70s, but all his 80s films were flops. How successful Tahir Hussain was, everybody knows. It was Mansoor Khan and Aamir Khan who earned success on their own merit with QSQT.
I don’t think his family’s name helped him get plum offers. Otherwise, why would he end up doing dozens of trashy films with obscure directors in the earliest days of his career? He didn’t keep getting offers from big directors even after being established!
Also, apart from QSQT, the films which his godfathers or ”godcousins” (!) made for him – JJWS, Tum Mere Ho, AHAT – were all unsuccessful, barring JJWS which was average, and did get lot of critical acclaim and eventual cult following. His father Tahir Hussain only gave him a blot like Tum Mere Ha! HHRPK was produced by Tahir Hussain, but then neither is it a huge mega blockbuster, nor did Aamir get much credit for it. Juhi and the kids got away with credit and awards.
His family connections didn’t help him get awards (even if he deserved them), nor did they help him get support or sympathy from media or offers from big directors.
He is where he is, only due to himself! I believe, it is due to his success and reputation (along with that of Mansoor Khan), that a term like ”Hussain family legacy” can be used. Otherwise, there was never a Hussain dynasty like a Kapoor or Bachchan or Mehra or Sippy or Chopra dynasty!
His family also suffered due to financial crisis, when his father’s films were stuck for years and they were neck deep in debt. He said in an interview that at one point in their childhood, they didn’t even have money to buy new school uniforms! Seeing his father and family in so much stress he had vowed (!) never to become a producer (amazing now he seems happier to be a producer than a star).
Abhishek Bachchan is the most classic example of what it means to have a godfather! Getting films and films, from big directors, getting endorsements, awards/rewards and less harsh treatment from media after scores of failures over years and getting lifted to skies even if he makes a decent effort as actor or gets a film which could be called a success! He would have been nowhere if not for the surname he adorns! I have never seen Aamir/Salman/HR get the kind of soft treatment which Abhishek does!
Salman also had his share of failures and problems with media and no support of big banners.
The only example of a star benefitting the most from a godfather is HR. Abhishek survives due to father. HR thrived due to father. Apart from D2, all his biggest grossers are from the Roshan stable – KNPH, KMG, Krissh. But godfather did falter with Kites. No one actually expected anything from KNPH. It arrived quietly, but everyone going in theatres was swept off their feet. It’s due to the son’s talent, screen presence, magnetic charm and talent – which no godfather can manufacture. Even Ranbir couldn’t wield such influence over audiences with his initial films.
I think Hrithik’s, Abhishek’s and to some extent Salman’s families offered them more support especially during crisis, and offered them more guidance.
Aamir was largely left on his own to figure out things for himself, and his family members only made things worse for him due to their own strange issues. Half of his time throughout his life, was spent trying to handle his father, brother and help his mother and sisters deal with family issues! Hypersensitive, idealist and control freak that he is…even he seems to have found it hard to deal with all such things and earn his bread and butter at the same time.
If Godfathers were of any use, then where are Kumar Gaurav, Tanisha, Bobby Deol, Shashi Kapoor’s son, Esha Deol, Twinkle and Rinke Khanna, Tusshar Kapoor, Mimoh, Fardeen Khan, Zayed Khan, Uday Chopra etc.? Why did Karisma have to struggle and slog so much? Why is Abhishek still hanging in balance?
A Dharmendra working at this age and doing and promoting a YPD to revive his sons’ careers and giving big films like Betaab and Ghayal to his son Sunny, are examples of godfather’s grace.
No such initiation, or revival of careers was done by any godfather for Aamir and Salman. Salman’s brothers also tried to make a mark in acting. None of them succeeded. Salman is there because he has something which nobody else has – x-factor, great looks, talent, charm, endearing persona, style and instant connect.
So godfather thing does not make much sense. Sons and daughters of many well known actors are nowhere today.
All I can say is that there are many internal, external, cultural, personal, professional and other diverse range of factors that go into making a a person a star and eventually an icon. There are no preset theories for films becoming hits or mortals becoming stars or icons. These people are, where they are, only due to something extra which they have. Be it by chance, luck, genuine hard work or manipulation or due to the times they were living in, they are undeniably a success and exercise enough influence to have people taking time to not only watch their films but debate about them or analyse them day in and day out, for 2 decades!

  • Prem, it depends on what kind of movie it is. Very little has been revealed and before seeing the trailer its pretty hard to tell. But since its an Aamir Khan film, it will open very well.

  • all records will b broken by DABANGG 2.
    DABANGG 2 set a new records in bollywood history… i m 200% sure…
jo b record bodyguard ye dhoom 3 bana le sb Dabangg 2 break kar de giiiiii………..:)

  • all records will b broken by DABANGG 2.
    DABANGG 2 set a new records in bollywood history… i m 200% sure…
jo b record bodyguard ye dhoom 3 bana le sb Dabangg 2 break kar de giiiiii………..:)

  • finally 2015 tak wait kro sabhi….. 3idt record ko break hota dekhne ke liye…!
in these years No Chance of Any Movies or Any Stars… !

  • don 2 and ra one all the way ass amir will be just an idiot and salman a dinka shikha after that i heard that they made great couple in gay marrige in new york yesterday

  • Indicine Team, thank you very much for the compliment. I initially thought I had written too much!

Well, I am a huge fan of AK and have not been able to become a fan of any other actor except him. But I am not a blind devotee at all. I think all Aamir fans have crisis of what to believe, what not to, what to expect or what not to expect…we do find ourselves in a quandary. But we just don’t discuss it openly. Simply so that fans of other stars do not assume that we ourselves don’t like our star or we are not ”true” fans etc. Even at certain forums people have told me that they find me confusing and wonder if I am a fan or not! All I can say, is that I love his work and the way he was able survive, to resurrect himself and keep himself afloat. But it doesn’t mean I keep hailing him as God or Ace or Real King or Emperor and ignore any fault. I just can’t bring myself to do that even if I try.
But yes, Aamir is a star and a much surprising star and success story at that! No awards, absolutely no media support, no PR, no multistarrers with huge stars or supermodels, no item numbers, no TV shows, reality shows, no concerts or world tours, no consistent popular jodi with an actress, no special appearances, no shooting at exotic foreign locations, no following of existing trends, no YRF/Dharma or even David Dhawan, no other big directors or co-stars, no signature style statement, too few ads – goes underground and disappears just as reptiles disappear completely in winter months! Yet, undoubtedly relevant, a crowd puller, someone who is heard and looked up to. And someone who does make rivals sit up and take notice. Someone who eventually ended up giving two of India’s highest grossing films (unadjusted for inflation) for two years in a row!
It is these factors which went against him, and may still be playing a role in public and media fully acknowledging his stature. But it is also true that these factors magnify the perception of his success today. It is amazing and incredible feat to sustain and reach the heights at which he is today despite so many things which are total no-no for any star or public figure.
So yeah, he remains an icon.
I like only a select few films of SRK and Akshay. But I absolutely love their attitude and sanity. SRK seems to have not just a fire, but a whole furnace in his belly! Exceptional drive to succeed AND to maintain a perception of success. He also faced many crises, but I am glad, he didn’t give up or slip into depression himself, or giving up everything in life the way Aamir did during those 4 years. Same goes for Akshay. Losing a parent, not doing well in studies, struggling in odd jobs etc., but still, he was strong enough to keep moving on, no matter what.
Aamir and Salman – I seriously believe that no one could have been able to shake them if they had been emotionally strong. I wish they hadn’t been so temperamental. They used their heart more than brains at certain points of time. Got disillusioned too, were naive and outspoken. Aamir was thankfully less temperamental and moody than Salman. Quietly banning media or awards, rather than beating up cameramen! Salman’s volatility cost him dearly in the years post 1999. I feel his girlfriends and tiffs with his girlfriends’ old and new boyfriends interfered with his focus on his career.
They are more stable now. And Aamir has improved vastly due to experience, interaction with psychologists (even if it was just for films) and due to influence of his wife. And thank God, for the new ”ready” to go for the kill, version of Salman!
Akshay Kumar is surely the best bet along with the Khans and the only one apart from them, who can pull crowds to theatres. He’s handsome, macho, and unabashed, unapologetic and effortless in whatever he does. His comedy or action – anything he does, is always convincing and effortless. But I agree, he must stop doing too many films a year (and worse, all 4 of them turn out to be comedies!) and he must do something different than comedy. Apart from Khans, if there is one name which is mentioned in slam books of kids in schools and colleges (in favorite actor column) it is Akshay Kumar! He’s saturated the comedy genre.
Hrithik used to be awesome. He held so much promise…he had every quality – he was handsome, well built, could look rough as well as cute, danced like a dream, was exceptional at everything except in comic scenes (sorry, I don’t think his comic timing is good. But this is also true, we got to see very few moments of comedy in HR films). But he just got lost…taking more breaks than Aamir ever did in his age and doing films like Kites – which one doesn’t know what to make of…I remember how he had made everyone forget about any other star when he had arrived! I admire him for taking challenges and trying new things. But I wish he were more desi, more rooted and played a Rohit or an Akbar, rather than a ”J” !
For overseas, I think one should take into account that SRK has played NRI more than any other contemporary of his. Aamir has never played an NRI at all! He is shown as a foreign returned guy in Mann and Ghajini and was briefly shown in Australia in DCH. But apart from that no role as NRI! His films are basically rooted in India and are about issues in Indian context. His films are barely shot abroad!
Aamir has never tried to ”target” any section of society or audience while doing a film. One should remember that Namaste London and SIK almost made a magical difference to Akshay’s fan following and reputation overseas. Especially, SIK made him a darling of Sikhs and Punjabi population. Aamir has never exactly played a person of certain caste or religion or tried to show ”cultural” or traditional elements (like mustard fields, religious symbols, monuments, or rites and rituals) in any of his films. So maybe his films weren’t that popular, because they didn’t remind people of their homeland.
I remember reading an NRI fan’s comment on his blog once, in which that guy had insinuated that he didn’t seem to care for his fans abroad, never visited them or participated in any world tour or shot his films there.
Non Indian fans simply aren’t able to relate to his films! They said they couldn’t see why Indians were making a big deal of something as common or known as dyslexia (they didn’t know there was no awareness in India!), they didn’t find any film special because his film did not show ”culture” of India. They only liked Lagaan (because it shows ”real” India or Indian culture!) and now 3 Idiots (because it raises issues which are common to most countries). The point is that one needs to understand Aamir’s films in Indian context and they need to understand the language fully, to know what is going on. A film like AAA, Rangeela or a 3 Idiots – whose dialogues are their greatest strength – their fun, humour and novelty is somewhere lost in translation. Miss even one line and you miss the fun!
Whereas, emotions of love, romance, laughter or sorrow can be understood even if one is slightly less conversant with language or culture of the country.
Also, no one understands why the heroine would choose to marry a taxi driver or a vagabond tapori, over a rich guy or a famous film star. So Raja Hindustani, Ghulam and Rangeela make no sense to them! Some of his patriotic films like Sarfarosh, Earth, Lagaan and MP made people feel as if he was too nationalistic or perhaps anti Pakistan (Sarfarosh invited significant backlash from his fans in Pakistan I remember and non-Asians don’t understand issues, so don’t care about a film like Sarfarosh!).
So lighter films like HAHK, HSSH, DDLJ, KKHH, DTPH, K3G etc. which are more about universal themes like love, family values etc., get more acceptance, as opposed to films which either focus on poor people with huge bloated ego, middle class or films that make a point on controversial issues.
MP, RDB and Lagaan seriously made even foreign journalists ask Aamir if he was anti British! I remember TIME and other magazines asking him such questions if he had some agenda against the British!!
Aamir’s films especially after 3 Idiots, have become hugely popular in other Asian countries like China, Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia etc., and countries like Serbia, Portugal and Brazil. This is because films like RDB, 3I, Ghajini, QSQT, TZP, Lagaan etc., are full of rebellion, raising voice against existing system, taking charge etc. So fans love them. They consider him as an Idol who inspires them to make a change. Sadly this does not get coverage in mainstream Indian media, because of his own lack of PR and due to still patchy relationship with media!
On the other hand, US or most EU countries are already liberated. They are not repressed. So they tend to admire the love and family elements in SRK.YRF films. His fans of non-Asian origin prefer him in romantic films or family films rather than a Swades or CDI or a Baazigar or Darr. They say no one romances like SRK. No one treats women as gently as he does (in his films). So they fantasize about him. They are happy to see colour, music and dance in his films and of course, lots of love and lots of crying. Non-Indian audience only watches Bollywood for music, drama, fun, frolic and dance. They don’t know much beyond YRF type stuff, nor are they much willing to give it a try.
For foreigners, they either want to see abject poverty or villages and slums or kings and queens or grandeur and dances in an Indian film. Their expectation and perception of Bollywood is only limited to this. Thankfully films like CDI, Swades, LRM and of course, RDB, TZP and 3 Idiots have managed to change that perception.
In case of Akshay, more than anyone else, the population of Punjabi origin loves him for sure! No wonder his films hold records in ”Caneda” and even in UK (I believe he is second to SRK, right?)
SRK has been very smart. Not just talented, but a very smart strategist. His films have big stars, known faces even in blink and miss roles, fabulous locations, great music, some sort of cultural element, certain blend of all ingredients – love, sorrow, laughter – PLUS, he plays ideal or dream man type characters (barring exceptions like KANK, Darr and Baazigar!).
Aamir has played fewer ideal or dream man type characters. Quite a mjor chunk of his characters like Sanju, Akash, Siddhu, Dilnawaz, Raja (both of Dil and RH), Raghu, Rohit Kumar, Rehan, Rahul Malhotra and even Munna are not exactly likeable or instantly lovable characters who one would like to emulate! They are no heroes. Mostly strugglers and people who learnt from their mistakes and then changed. Munna and Raghu are even ready to give up all hope and leave quietly from the scene! While ACP Rathod, Raj of QSQT, Bhuvan, Rancho, Nikumbh sir, parts of DJ are the ones who someone would like to emulate, whose qualities we’d like to internalise. They are friends, mentors or lovers which audience would like to have and heroes which one looks up to!
Salman and SRK have more larger than life characters and ideal man type roles in their filmography than Aamir. I wish we had more characters like Rancho or ACP Rathod from him. Playing spoilt or directionless youth or someone who is only struggling or is a loser but has a bloated ego – it didn’t earn him fans or sympathy of audiences towards the characters he played!
Talking of SRK, he has been smart to exploit the very trends kicked off by his rivals – those of romantic or family based films, started by the likes of QSQT, MPK and HAHK – surprisingly the ones who started the trends left such films whereas SRK benefitted from the trend started by these films! He is also clever in the sense that after becoming famous, he did try to balance his occasional risks like Josh, Baadshah, Duplicate with safe films like KKHH, Mohabbatein, K3G etc. Careful enough to have both CDI and an OSO at the same time. So lovers of usual SRK remain happy, while new fans are earned in case his effort clicks. His Raj-Rahul/King Khan image is so strong and overpowering that it overshadows genuine efforts at doing something different!
Aamir also started doing balancing act with Lagaan and DCH, RDB and Fanaa in same years of release (otherwise he was only giving us films totally contrary to his image from Ghulam to Earth, prior to those he had exhausted lover boy roles!). But of late, he has begun to take years to balance different genres. So you have a TZP in 2007 but a more commercial film like Ghajini only a year later! [I even hate tying the word year now…AK’s breaks made me hate it!].
The main point always boils down to the fact that apart from SRK (and in the past Amitabh and among females Aishwarya Rai) no other star has attempted to reach out to overseas audiences,or do lots of concerts or world tours or make sure that their films are available in foreign countries. Salman and HR also perform at events and shows in foreign countries. Even Akshay Kumar has only recently started reaching out to overseas audiences more aggressively.
Aamir’s overseas fans complain that DVDs of his films become available only 2 years after their release! And fans in countries like Germany and Poland (there are fans!) complain that his films like 3 Idiots or TZP never release in cinemas!
Whereas SRK films are widely available. He makes sure even books written on him are translated in foreign languages and available at book stores in foreign countries. Aamir ka kya kehna? The DVDs of his films release a year later even in India itself!
He will never try to get his film dubbed in various languages or have subtitles in different foreign languages, so that fans can enjoy them. [Despite his fans nearly begging him to do so, since years!!]
Fans in European countries, precisely know only 7 Aamir films. No more films are available to them even as pirated DVDs! They keep petitioning distributors like Rapid Eye Movies, to get them more Aamir films, but so far efforts have not yielded any result.
As for Aamir, like I said earlier, he releases only stuff like PL or DG abroad, and he did release Lagaan in past. Other stuff is never promoted or made available in the different parts of the world! His foreign fans always joke that they sit on Godot’s bench, endlessly waiting for Aamir’s films’ DVDs! He appears in foreign media only to promote arthouse films or while attending an occasional film festival.
Finally, in case of overseas, more than any star or something, it is YRF that reigns undisputed. Their reach and penetration in international markets is phenomenal. No wonder SRK films are available so widely and non YRF films (especially done at earlier stages like Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman or Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa etc) are sort of harder to get in foreign countries. And Aamir’s most widely available film apart from Lagaan is Fanaa!
There are more reasons for Aamir or other stars not being as successful as SRK in overseas markets. Apart from charm and talent, SRK has undeniable smartness! He associates with those who take him closer to his goal (which is the pinnacle of course), he is completely available for fans – from movies to books and other merchandise – fans can always get a piece of SRK, unlike Aamir. SRK once said he didn’t like doing romantic films and never wanted to act in such films when he embarked upon his career as an actor. But despite not exactly liking it, he still did it and did it phenomenally well. Unlike Aamir, who won’t touch anything he doesn’t like to do! SRK would like to be recognised and mobbed wherever he goes, while Aamir tries to be a recluse and chooses small faraway spots for vacation to hide from the world, and says he feels more comfortable in foreign cities where people don’t recognise or mob him! Complete opposites! Good for Aamir, good for SRK, to each his own.
Aamir is a curious case. I think he prefers to do his own thing, and face the consequences – whatever they might be – good or bad.
He is surely not as attached to his stardom as SRK is. He loves his stardom, but let’s just say, it seems there are other things which occupy his mind and heart – enough to compel him to put stardom on hold. Plus I believe the phenomenal success and response he got despite that 4 year break has only strengthened his belief that audience will be there for him, whenever he chooses to come out of his shell.
The only thing which ails him is that he is too much of an idealist and ”perfectionist”. Too much of a control freak! So he needs 6 months to read a script, another 20 days to finalise a script, a year and a half to complete a film, advance 6 months for marketing, then break after release of film! Breaks to focus on family. Breaks to focus on himself and ”recharge” his batteries. Months to work on DVDs of his films even for release in Indian market!
If he agreed to have a book written on him, then he would most probably take more breaks, need more time to keep checking with the author, or possibly edit or write the book himself! Like I said in my previous comment, his own personal ”demons” don’t let him do anything and even prevent him from doing films regularly!
His idealism ensured that he got irritated with co-stars in the past and spoke against them, fell out with filmmakers and media! Thankfully he is better than what he used to be earlier.
SRK is more relaxed and delegates responsibilities to others. So he doesn’t have to work on subtitles, get involved in everything or avoid things like books on himself or films translated in foreign languages – the way Aamir avoids all these things altogether as he views them as distraction! Salman is doing his best for Being Human foundation, but he doesn’t take all work and nitty gritties upon himself!
Whereas Aamir needs extra and undisturbed time and space to check everything which has his name attached, and give it ”OK. Tested.” stamp! Which is why an invitation from Madame Tussauds seemed like a distraction from work!
We always joke that Aamir would give up films altogether if he bought an IPL team or started his own charity like SRK or Salman! Bas filmein kar le, har saal mein ek film – wohi kaafi hai. Aur kuch nahi chahiye!

As for analysis or deducing reasons or conclusions – this can only be done on assumption and that too, in retrospect. One can never tell if AK did something in SRK’s way, he would have been more successful, or if SRK did something in AK’s way or did kind of movies which AK does, then no one would be able to stand in front of him! Or if Salman did this, he would be that, or Akshay did this XYZ thing he would outshine other ABC stars. All are unique, have charted their own paths and done exceptionally well for themselves.
I guess they are all fine rivals and good competition for each other and keep each other on toes – with each one trying his best to outdo and outshine the other. Audience only benefits with more entertainment and more different stuff to look forward to, coming from these magicians!

  • @Ansuhka: wow what a comment man!!! You made me fall in love with you and love Aamir more and more, great observations. Kudos!!

  • Ra one has 5 day opening weekend , it may earn 80 to 90 crore in 5 days on an avg 16 crore , another 50 crore in next 5 weekdays , if good another weekend of 30 crore , and 25 crore next weekdays , in third week another 20 , fourth week 5 , fifth week 2 and then dies out with anohter 3 crores in rest of its run.

totoal nett business — 215 crores .. if good

if excellent , more business can happen — over 300 crore
and if avg can drop to– 150

and if utterly bad — 100

    if wrost — 80 crore

Most Probable , is that film may be good as it took so much time in production and also srk is returning after 2 years , so

most probable business — 180 crores to 220 crores

    overall it has (100-(20/220)*100= 90.9 === 91 % chances

Hence , ra one has 91% chances of breaking 3i record.

  • now DON 2 from the trailer looks international but dialogue deliveri is desi don type .

so it can connect with masses and classes , and srk jadoo will be on the watches from ra one ,

and its a sequel of a hit film , original and , excellent response to trailer , good director .

It may open bumper , lets take the same way 17 crore avg on weekend making it to 51 crore and

weekday might be higher than ra one 12 crore avg making it to 60, second week will depend on content of film totally , lets assume it’s good as its the most probable case , second week might add whooping 50crores and third 20 , fourth 5 and fifth 2 and dies out with 3 .

so total if good , 191 crores

so most probable business — 170 crores to 210 crore

    overall it has (100-(30/210)*100) = 85.7 == 86%

Don 2 has 86% chances of breaking 3i’s record

  • now , bodyguard , salman on eid , will open huge but might be smaller than ra one as it is 2 months earlier . might match dabangg as all salman fans will rush.

if film if good in content
    if taken 15 crore avg , 45 crore weekend 50 crore week days , second week 45 , third 18 , fourth 6 , fifth 2 and dies with 3.

    total — 169 crores

most probable business — 140 crores to 190

    overall — ( 100- (60/190)*100 ) =68.4 == 68%

so bodyguard has 68% chances of breaking 3i records .

  • @Anuskha

  • Ra1-1st day collection
    Total screen-3000
Total show-3000*3(3show in one day per screen)
    =90000
    Total people 300 per show
    Now 90000*300=27000000
    Ticket price=100(average)
    Now 27000000*100
    =2700000000=270cr.
It may be possible.but i think it will not be possible 270 cr in one day.but it is sure that ra one will earn may be 125cr in 1st day.so ra1 will break the 3idiots record in just 3 or 5 days.

  • Sorry frnd my calculation was wrong.i m really sorry for that.
    Total screen-3000*(4 show per day)
    =12000*400(400 people in one show)
=4800000*100(ticket price,average)=48cr.it will will be a record of 1st day collection.
