Why Dabangg is bigger than 3 Idiots

Indicine writer Abhishek Sharma on why the success of Dabangg was bigger than 3 Idiots. The messiah of the masses, Salman Khan, has unleashed the first trailer of his home Production and arguably the most awaited movie of the year ‘Dabangg 2’. The phenomenal craze for Khan, who is on a dream run, with one blockbuster after another, has raised the expectations exponentially. While we are all set to hear and read several predictions, reviews and forecasts for this movie from the so called ‘trade experts’, let us spare few moments to revisit the aura created by the original first film – Dabangg in 2010.

Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots to help fight terrorism!

The ‘All Is Well’ song in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots showed Rancho (played by Aamir Khan) trying to fix a helicopter like device – which ultimately records the suicide of a classmate in its maiden flight. This device evidently grabbed eyeballs in the movie, since the idea has been adopted by the security forces of India, including the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Reserve Police

Ra One vs 3 Idiots

Ra One is by far the biggest release of the year and also the most-hyped. If we’d have to pick one film this year...

3 Idiots vs Dabangg vs Ready : Comparison

3 Idiots, Dabangg and Ready are three of the biggest money-spinners in the history of our film industry and comparing the box office figures of these films gives us a good idea on why 3 Idiots went on to nett 200 crores in India and remains the biggest grosser ever, why Dabangg did very well initially but couldn’t beat 3 Idiots and why Ready is unlikely to come close to the lifetime business of Dabangg. Bollywood Biggest Grossers

With the boom of multiplexes, the life of films at theaters has reduced drastically. Gone are days when a film needed a silver jubilee (25 weeks) or a golden jubilee (50 weeks) to be considered a success. These days, most films are out of theaters in a week, yet recover their investment. Films that run longer though, go on to earn bucket loads of money and are termed money-spinners or blockbusters by the trade. Below is a list of 5 such films, which are Bollywood’s biggest grossers ever! (Figures include collections from both overseas and India)

Komal Nahta on 3 Idiots and My Name Is Khan

The whole of the week gone by has had the trade people talk about just one thing – whether Shah Rukh Khan’s My Name Is Khan is a hit or a flop and whether its box-office collections have been bigger than those of Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots. Although comparisons are not fair and are, in fact, odious, it is necessary to talk of the two films in the same breath simply because Fox, the worldwide distributor of MNIK, has been doling out figures to the media, claiming that its film has surpassed all previous records. By implication, it means MNIK has collected more than 3 Idiots. Surprisingly, most of the media people have been buying the Fox story without so much as verifying the same. Actually, not so surprisingly.
