The expectations from Salman Khan’s Veer that releases next weekend, is neither too high nor too low, which is just about perfect for any film. Veer should also benefit from the curiosity around it, chartbusting music is missing but the songs (from the trailers) have been shot well and have a certain pleasing look to it.
Box office over the years, hasn’t been too kind to historicals, hence the opening weekend is very important for a film like Veer. Khan’s strong hold has always been single screens, but what remains to be seen is how Veer performs at the all important multiplexes, which should eventually decide the fate of this high budget epic.

- Opening Weekend: 18 – 19 crores nett
- Opening Weekend if the film exceeds expectations: 22 crores nett
- Week 1: 28 crores nett
- Week 1 if liked: 30 – 32 crores nett
- Lifetime collections if poor: less than 40 crores nett
- Lifetime collections if mixed: 45 – 50 crores nett
- Lifetime collections if good: 60 – 70 crores nett

I normally refrain from predicting things…i rather hope and expect the things to be good.
With this frame of mind, i sincerely hope that both Veer and MNIK turn out to be quality films with solid content. Not because i like or dislike any of the two stars, but only because I need quality stuff to enjoy.
And believe me, with the kind of hype and stars associated with both the films, they will only fail if the content is extraordinarily BAD. Otherwise, both will become super successes.Who would mind movies to be strong enough to keep on breaking records every year. Rather, as a movie freak, it would be a dream come true to watch so many good movies. Just think of it.
I think I will be highly unfair to my own self if I keep myself away from a quality movie, just because I dont like the star. Nah ! doesn’t sound to be a very attractive idea !!!

1st day will be around 6-8cr and if the film is liked by the ppl and 90% reviews r gr8 then next 2 days will be (sat-8cr+sun9cr)so 1st weekend ‘ll b around 23-25cr and in the weekdays it will be mon-5cr+tues-8cr(holiday)+wednes-4cr+thurs4cr
so if the film is liked by the ppl then 1st week ‘ll be around 44-46cr….and lifetime total ‘ll be around 75-90cr
and if not liked by ppl then 1st week 25-30cr and lifetime less then 40cr..
usually if salman movies hv mixed reactions then they doesnt do gr8 business..so there is no middle point for veer…either it ‘ll be 90cr or less then 40cr

“ The title ‘VEER’ adds up to Number 18 ( 9 ) – this octave of Number 9 is not considered auspicious. The symbol of this number is a rayed moon from which drops of blood are falling. A wolf and a dog are struggling to lick this blood. A crab is moving hastily to join them. Creepy, isnt’ ? ” asks Bhavikk without going further.

me n amish were writing every funny dialogue from promos. and when i said that i gona watch it on thursday and i ll put my review at 6 pm ist then every akki fan was crazy and waiting me.
i was little late and all were waiting me.
now time is Sallu’s movie so now every sallu fan like Hina , Afrid Khan , Amit S , Vicky , zakir , srijon and so many other.

@ Zakir: I am not a SRK Fan first off. I don’t like him at all.
As far as Veer goes, it is funny how your predictions range from less than 40 crore to 90+ crore. Here are mine.
If the film is liked (good reviews and good word of mouth), I say 25 crore 1st weekend with 55-60 crore lifetime business. If this film is a cult classic, then I see the collections touching 65 crore.. no more!!
If the film gets bad reviews and word of mouth, I say 16-18 crore weekend with about 30 crore lifetime business
However I don’t think either of these things will happen: I think the review will be mixed to negative with a few critics maybe giving it good reviews. This being said I think the film is likely to get about 20-22 crore 1st weekend mainly due to Salman’s star power. However in my opinion the promos don’t and music don’t look that great so I would say lifetime business of about 35 crore.
Let’s see whose predictions are more accurate.
Also, Zakir I can bet you anything that Salman will not win a best actor award for his performance in Veer. His performance I think will be good but definitely not award-winning. And once again, I am going to see biased salman fans like u whine about him getting jipped! lolz

3 khan’s have dominated bollywood for many years and no one can give credit to SRK & Amir only. Salman has his own genere and massive fans at his back and are enough to pull the crowds in theaters.
We should not declare his movie Veer a flop or average. We should be fare enough to watch and see the critics and positive word on mouth. Promos look great and expect another wanted kind of hard movie. The movie would be surely blockbuster / superhit. 70++++

Whatever critics of Salman may say, the fact is the public is going Veer, Veer, Veer.
Recently at a McDonald’s outlet in Delhi where a song of Veer was showing on the telly, we heard two ladies watching the song and saying excitedly: ” Just six more days to Veer”!!! If with kind of buzz the film flops, it will only be if it is very badly made ( and what with the flop combo of Jackie Shroff-Mithun-Sohail Khan). From the looks of it, it definitely has the potential to make a dent on Three Idiots free run so far. One thing is for sure – Salman films either succeed hugely or fail. There is no in between. Salman is a true Veer for having taken the risk. As many have said, pl ensure a very good multiplex response. With Salman trust single screens to take care of themselves!

Salman Khan has first gone to his friend Sanjay Leela Bhansali to direct Taras Bulba. When Sanjay declined Salman bitterly vowed to make the same story with another director, and make it as an epic comparable with Sanjay’s vision.
Anil Sharma was chosen because of Gadar : Ek Prem Katha.
“But please don’t expect Gadar in Veer. Gadar was far more dramatic and emotional. Veer is targeted more at today’s younger audiences, ” warns the director.
Stories about differences between Saslman Khan and his director Anil Sharma during the making of Veer abound.
Speaking on the issue for the first time Anil Sharma admits there were differences. “Salman was not just the main actor in Veer he was also the writer. We had a lot differences of opinion. The way he narrated the story and the way I perceived it as a director were different
Moreover I brought in other writers Shailesh Verma, Shaktimaan (who wrote my Gadar) and Krishna Raghav. Raghav did all the research. So Salman’s story has been interpreted in the way I thought right.In the original story Taras Balba”
Salman insisted that Anil Sharma watch his source of inspiration the Yul-Brynner-Tony Curtis 1962 film Taras Bulba.
“But we couldn’t get a single print of the film. So I had to make do with the images that I had in my mind from childhood. They made the film in Russia last year. I saw that version. Taras Bulba was the story of the father Yul Brynner, played by Mithun Chakraborty in my film.
Veer is not the father’s story. It’s the son Salman’s story. And we had to relocate the entire story from 16th century Russia to Colonial India.”
While Salman Khan has become the face of Veer, the film’s director Anil Sharma has taken a backseat so far.
Speaking up finally he says, “For three years now all kinds of things have been said and written about Veer and my relationship with the project and actors. The truth is, we were making a very difficult film. And there were bound to be creative differences. But we sorted it out.”
Anil admits he never wanted Salman’s favourite composers Sajid -Wajid to do the music of Veer.
“I had heard his tunes in his earlier films and I was sure Sajid -Wajid wasn’t the right person for a period drama like Veer. I met them reluctantly and was surprised by their understanding of Hindustani music.
We worked really well together. They were delighted to be told to compose a thumri or a bandish for the first time. And the fact that I could convince Gulzar Saab to work with Sajid-Wajid was a stroke of luck.”
Says Anil Sharma, “We’ve reduced the length to approximately 2 hours 45 minutes. Only one 15-second action scene was removed by the censors. We had actually retained longer versions of the action sequences than we needed because the censors always shorten action scenes.
To our surprise they didn’t touch anything!”
