Veer Box office Opening

Salman Khan’s Veer has opened to a fantastic response at the box office and is currently on a record-breaking spree on single screens. Business is best in North, East and Central India and worst down South.

Single screen business is 90% on Day 1 while multiplexes have seen around 50-60% average through the day. Combined, Veer has managed to nett 7 crores on Day 1 all over India.

As the film is performing best at single screens, it would be unfair to compare Veer based on box office nett collections. Going by the distributors share, the Day 1 business of Veer is next only to Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots and Ghajini.

Saturday too, the business is excellent at single screens and it would be very interesting to see how the film performs on its first crucial weekday. Tuesday, being a holiday (Republic day) should also boost the Week 1 collections.

If the trending is close to as good as Wanted, Veer should easily attain HIT status.

  • New Delhi: Salman Khan`s much ambitious period drama “Veer” has fallen flat at the box office despite having an extended weekend for business, thanks to Republic Day. The movie has not gone beyond an average 45 percent occupancy over the initial weekend.

Released Friday, the film was a solo release, but has failed to attract masses.

“`Veer` is an average movie. While the constant on Friday and Saturday was only 44 percent occupancy, it dropped to 39 percent on Sunday and has been on an average only 43 percent over the initial weekend,” Amit Awasthi, manager (programming and operations) of Spice Cinemas at Noida, said.

“It is now expected to fall around 30-35 percent. We were running 19 shows per day and in the new week, we will change it to eight shows per day,” he added.

Written by Salman 20 years ago, the film was co-produced by Eros International Media Ltd presentation and Vijay Galani`s Moviez production.

Made at a budget of around Rs 44 crore, (Rs 440 million) `Veer` has been directed by Anil Sharma and marks the big screen debut of Zarine Khan, who is said to have a close resemblance to Salman`s actress girlfriend Katrina Kaif.

Set in colonial India, the film encapsulates a period when the British enslaved India with their divide and rule policy and kings and nawabs fell for it, except for the Pindaris who preferred death to dishonour and fought till their last breath. Salman plays one of the bravest and strongest Pindari soldiers named Veer.

“There has been a major drop in the movie. `Veer` is a period movie and audiences have not been able to relate to it. The movie got only around 40 percent of opening because there was no competition considering it was a solo release,” said Yogesh Raizada, corporate head (cinemas) of Wave Cinemas.

“Now that we have an extended weekend due to Republic Day, may be it gets some footfalls as people don`t have any other movie to watch,” he added.

Piyush Raizada, director of Delite Cinema that upgraded itself into a two-screener, however, claims that movie is diong a good business.

“`Veer` is doing very well and the collections are fantastic considering it`s a long weekend,” said Raizada.

The keenly awaited VEER hasn’t found flavour in the three major international markets – U.K., U.S.A. and Australia. Given the massive screen count and the scale of the movie, the film should have had at least £ 2,75,000 to £ 3,00,000 opening weekend in U.K. Similarly, the film should have opened anywhere between $ 7,50,000 to $ 1 million in its opening weekend the U.S. Australia is also dull. A comparative study of major Hindi films in U.K. and U.S.A. is listed below. The combined total from these three markets at the end of its opening weekend stands at [approx.] less than Rs. 3 crores.

    Weekend: January 22 – 24, 2009.

    U.K. BOX-OFFICE

VEER has debuted at No. 15 position. In its opening weekend, the film has collected £ 1,48,423 [approx. Rs. 1.11 crores] on 46 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 3,227.

    AND

3 IDIOTS [last weekend: No. 17, this weekend: No. 17]: In its fifth weekend, the film has collected £ 80,204 on 35 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 2,292. Total: £ 16,88,487 [approx. Rs. 12.58 crores].

  • Veer Drops On Monday

    Tuesday 26th January 2010 10.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Veer dropped on Monday as it recorded business in the 3-3.25 crore nett range. The drop is around 55% from Friday and Sunday collections.

The film has now taken its four day collections to just over 22.50 crore nett. Veer has been rejected by the metro multiplex audience as collections started on a low note and have not improved. Multiplexes outside metroes are okay but its single screen business that is really helping the film put up decent totals.

The film has a big advantage as it is Republic Day holiday today and a jump in business is expected which will help the film to a total of 31-32 crore nett for the first week.

  • Veer Is Dull In International Markets

Veer is dull overseas with around 5 crore business in the the International markets. United Kingdom grossed 1.10 crore while North America was 1.50 crore. The response in Middle East and Pakistan is reportedly better. Overall the film will not be doing much business overseas.

Three Idiots is still bringing in the cash in its fifth week. The business is now $15.25 million dollars which is around 70 crore. North America should finish at around $6.5 million while United Kingdom around the £1.8 million.

  • BOXOFFICE UPDATEespite of holiday VEER does not get any benefit SHOCKING

After a poor monday everyone was expecting a huge tuesday reason being republic day holiday but what turned out to be was totally opposite VEER OPENED TO JUST A DECENT OPENING SHOW ON TUESDAY AND THE EVENING SHOWS DID NOT SHOW THAT BIG A JUMP DESPITE A HOLIDAY THIS SUMS THE BOXOFFICE JOURNEY OF VEER MORE OR LESS…tuesday will see VEER collecting around 3 to 4.5 NETT which is poor for a holiday business the first looks around 30 to 31 BELOW AVERAGE TO FLOP

  • I got it from Bollywood hungama, its komal nahata’s source, but the guy who posted it was right before when he said staurday saw a dip in collection, no one believed him until monday was confirmed, he also said monday dropped by 55% with the same source. anyways i dont want the film to flop, but lukslike critics only matter to u when its an akki movie.

  • @ Prity

A movie should be a movie. If we want everything to be accurate and realistic then we all should sit back at home and watch news channels.

Veer has its flaws. But which movie does’t? If with 1star rating Veer can garner 23 crores in 4 days, just imagine if it had got better reviews. Then how much wud it have earned?
Anyways todays collections are not that great. It should fetch anywhere between 4 to 4.5 crores.

Rajib’s prediction of 6.25 crores is wrong.

1st week should fetch 30 to 31 crores.

Lifetime will be 40 crores (Domestic)

Distributors share will be around 24/ 25 crores. So it will be safe

With Overseas Business of 5 to 8 crores (Flop)

Total gross will be 50 crores.

    Dont worry be happy

  • Overseas collection should probably more than that … it has done exceptionally well in PAK and UAE.
    Its 23 crs until monday + 5 cr Tue + 2.5 + 2 = 32.5 cr (India 1st week) + 9 crs (including PAK & UAE) = 41.5 wordwide … + 10-14 crs lets say next week = 55.5 crs = 30 + distributors share = HIT
