Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi marks the return of Aditya Chopra as a director after 8 years. His last movie Mohabbatein did well at the box-office, but it isDDLJ that continues to make news a decade after its release (its still running in a theatre in Mumbai). The expecations are quite high. Can Aditya Chopra recreate the magic of DDLJ, once again, with Shahrukh Khan in the lead?
Like last year’s Om Shanti Om, SRK has a new heroine, who again like Deepika Padukone, appears slightly taller than him.
Surprisingly unlike most Aditya Chopra movies, there are just 4 characters in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi; Surinder Sahni – Raj (both SRK), Taani (Anushka Sharma) and Bobby (Vinay Pathak). Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is a simple film about a couple whose marriage turns from a compromise to one made in heaven, by Rab himself!
Surinder Sahni is a simpleton working for Punjab Powers with a personality of a nerd. At the wedding of his college professors daughter he falls head over heals in love at first with the bride, the beautiful and very bubbly girl Taani. Just when the air of happiness and celebration reached its peak, the news about the accident of the groom and his entire family puts everything to lull. Surinder being the most favorite and admired student of the professor takes the responsibility of taking care of Taani and ties the nuptial bond with her. The rest of the story tells us about the extent to which Surinder goes to bring back the liveliness and happiness in the life of his lady love. It’s about how he wins his share of love compromising yet taking his stand for the man he is.
There are 2 major negatives and flaws in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
1) The length! Its more than 2 hours 40 mins long for a movie, which preferabbly should not have exceeded 2 hours. A bunch of unnecessary scenes, just to add masala, to an otherwise simple movie is disappointing. Also the movie is a stretch, with the pace being painfully slow at times.
2) The story! How can a newly married woman, who promises to be a good wife, fall in love with her dance partner? Okay, such things do happen when the marriage has no hold. But then the Raj – Taani love story is far from convincing and just doesnt strike the right chord. When a love story involves a married lady, who is cheating on her husband, the build up and the impact has to be tad bit more.
And how in the world does Taani not recognise Raj as her husband? With minimal changes in looks which included the removal of his moustache, specs and a change in hairstyle. The face and voice was the same, wasnt it?
The dialogues are great. Sets are adequate, simple and perfect for a movie like Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. The music is average. Haule Haule and the title track are good. Dance Pe Chance has been choreographed well. Rest are okay.
SRK’s character of Surinder Sahni is something most people would identify with. A simple common man, who goes through his daily routine and 9 to 5 working life. Acting wise, SRK has put in a lot of effort into this role and it shows. The mannerisms are funny, overall good performance.
Then comes the Raj makeover and SRK starts perfecting his hamming skills. The over the top character is strictly for SRK fans. Others could find it irritating.
Anushka Sharma is brilliant in a highly refreshing performance. Her expressions and dance stands out. A huge contender for the best debut award this year. Vinay Pathak is fine.
Overall, the story and the execution is a let down. The performances are decent and the movie sure has some light moments that would make you smile and laugh. At the all important box-office, the opening has been suprisingly not upto expectations for such a huge film. It should pick up over the weekend. Going past the Week 1 figures of either Singh Is King or Om Shanti Om seems highly unlikely.

Other notes: Kajol, Rani Mukherjee, Lara Dutta, Bipasha Basu and Preity Zinta.. all have special apperances in a song. The theatre was half full for the morning show and the audience reaction was decent. They seemed to love the scene wherein SRK keeps a rose along with his phone number, for his newly married wife.

Fathiya: First let me inform you that this is the first time I’m writing comments on blog sites and regarding your comments on defending Shahrukh then dear do you honestly believe that defending or humiliating an actor or actress here can by any means affect there BO collection or there status in the industry, I don’t believe that. Shahrukh is one of the premier actors of indian industry who has given legendary movies like DDLJ, KKHH,KKKG,DTPH,VZ,Baazigar etc at the same time he has given flops also like Chalte Chalte,Ashoka etc so it is not necessary that all movies of Shahrukh will always be a hit. Same goes for Akki, Akki has recently came into limelight that too because of his acting. To tell you the truth both SIK and RNBDJ don’t have good story, it is just there acting that has make these movies a hit. If anyone use bad words against Shahrukh then it is just there jealousy towards a great actor, there is no doubt about it but at the same time if you have used bad words against Shabana,Paresh etc then it is wrong also coz they are of a different class all together. No one can question there acting, they are one of the best actors here. Actually what makes a person star or not depends on the role also. So there is no point fighting on this that who is good or who is bad. Except for few actors in the industry ( I don’t want to take there names or it might hurt someone’s feelings) rest of them are usually good.
And now regarding your comments on watching movies and people doing good things and bad things. What did I write ( Watching movies in itself is a sin) there is nothing like good movies or bad movies(with biknis and stuff) so there is no point in bringing these things here.
Ha Ha Ha and one more thing the definition of LOVE or Strong Feeling is still not defined properly defined, if you say “strong feelings” that can be towards killing people also. What I mean to say is that these things are not generalised, they are personal views and varies from one person to another. Few people sense attatchment only thru touch etc, few by talks only and so on. So just don’t boil up your blood and relax and enjoy the different things present, enjoy the movie you like even if rest of the world hates it. KHz and Take Care.
YAMINI: You are no doubt right that watching a movie is a family’s decision all together. There are films that are acceptable to watch in few families and forbidden in others( HaHaHa forbidden is rather a strong word) . Indeed as I have already written to Fathiya that people like Shabana Ji, Paresh ,Lata Ji are of different class all together. You know on our college convocation Shabana Ji and Naseeruddin Shah came and I heard to what they said. From there speech and one small drama that they did it was very easy to figure out how great an actor they are. Regarding RNBDJ people have different views on it. If you ask a simple man like sukhvinder then he might have loved this movie, even I loved the movie not because of the story but the acting. There is no doubt that I was expecting more from adi and shah after the legendary DDLJ. HaHaHa and one more thing you definitely do use strong words like cum etc ( believe me many people still don’t know what it is) but one should still avoid using such words because the harder words you use means the weaker you are honestly. All great people, never used words that disrespect others but rather words that really bring them on top. And what is bad is the word PUNJABI PUTTAR, I ahve friends from punjab ( I myself being from delhi) feel proud to call themselves Punjabi Puttar. It is a word of pride. So for you also use words that bring you on top rather than demolish others. HeHeHe and again take a chill Pill. Take care buh bye.
Finally what I say about RAB NE BANA DI JODI: The collection of the movie is good, the acting is good but it is not upto the legend of DDLJ. Don’t compare this movie with anything then it is a light weight tension free movie which is fun to watch with no dramatic ups and downs. Simple straight forward story specially good for people like me (who has a tense office life) but overall not a verrrrrrrrrrry goooooooood movie neither a verrrrrrry baaaaad movie.

About Shabana Azmi.. what I said was just a “joke” I didn’t mean it, she was my favourite actress in the past ( actuarlly I see mymself in her character) but what I said coz I was really surprised that why she turned into something else lately.. she’s no more Shabana but a new character!
And Paresh Rawal.. I’ve never said any thing bad against him, when ppl questioned me that why I admired shahrukh so I said ( He is Shahrukh.. the king of bollywood) and meant to say: He is not a junior actor like Tushar or other actors.. that’s what I meant, but some ppl ( who are against me) always try to take advantage.. like the guy who said to u: Why did I call some as Punjabi Puttar!! And Shahrukh’s movie Chalte Chalte was a successful movie, not a flop ( I don’t know exactly the rating) but it was not a flop, Asoka was an average movie which deserved to be a hit.

Rabne had a new script which I didn’t see in bollywood, the direction was so good, a man would do a makeover to please his wife.. that’s the best thing in the movie and the (true love).. just forget about the words which I already used (strong love) true love, that’s the correct one.. true love is what a husband would do for his wife, to make her happy.. who would go in fact and fight with a big huge japanese man and he’s just a tiny comparing to him, just to win 2 tickets, to take his wife for a honeymoon?! Who would do a makeover, change himself completely just to win her love, Surrinder Sahani did!
Aadil.. we always on this website and on some others agree and disagree.. u always find negative and positive comments about movies and actors.. ppl loved a movie while some others considered as a crap or average and a big example is the movie: Jaane Tue Yaa Jaane Na which (all) of u found a good movie and was a hit at the box office but I found it boring & a shallow movie with a bad direction.
While watching Rabne at the cinema, some indian ppl ( indian ppl and not bahraini) were enjoying and laughing at most of the scenes, none stop laughing and some others ( also indians) were so quiet!
I think it all depend on yr character and what u find funny or not.
HeHeHe Fathiya to tell you the truth I also did not like Jaane Tu ya jaane na, and again what I wrote in the last comment that this movie is a very light movie and fun to watch there are not too many dramatic turn of events etc etc. It is a simple movie with a simple story and I don’t know if a movie like this is made or not but even it was then also Shahrukhs and that new girl Anushka’s actig was great. And please do not think that all Indian people hated it, if it would have been the case then it might not have even earned above 10 or 12 crores. And regarding chalte chalte I know it is a good movie but I was looking at some shahrukh movie stats and there it was written as flop although his acting in that movie was great, similar was the case with ashoka.
What you have written in the end is actually what I’m trying to tell you that indeed it is a person’s own view towards anything that makes it good or bad for that particular person.
Now what is to be seen is that what are the reviews on Ghajini, I believe there will again be some throat cutting on this blog hehehe.
Nonetheless if we all will start to agree on one thing then the balance of world will be disturb and further more there won’t be much fun left.
One more thing Fathiya regarding the story of rab ne. Don’t you think it is too hard on Anushka if she would have been in real world to have so easily choose surinder over raj. What I want to say is that consider a similar condition in real life, don’t you think it is wrong on surinder’s part to check his wife like this. As the supporting actor (Surinder’s Friend said) ” Suri wo insaan hi hai Rab nahin” (Suri she is only a human not god) so this is true, it is not all that easy as they have shown in the movie. Hahaha then again it is a movie and nothing more. What could have been the feelings of a girl who is standing in place of anushka at that point in real life, won’t she feel guilty that she was ready to RUN with another guy who later out came to be his hubby. Also Suri decided to left her in the end, consider this situation if he would have left, Anushka would have definitely commited suicide. So actually what he did was to put his own wife in a dilemma. Coming in two different forms and putting your wife in a position that she has to decide between them I don’t think its Love. What he was doing was checking if she loves Sahni or raj. Just think over it not as a movie. HeHeHe you will find an answer only if you put yourself in Anushka’s shoes.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has netted a new first week record of 44.50 crore nett for all India business. The collections have been excellent in West Bengal and South while Delhi/UP and East Punjab is only second to Singh Is Kinng. The film is also sustaining very well.Singh Is Kinng was grossed 43.77 crore.
Aadil: Gaajini will be released on Wednesday, I think I will not watch it only after asking my brother who’s the managing director of Bahrain Cinema co. if it’s a good movie, as from the trailer, we can’t say anything.. all I can say that I didn’t like the action scenes and didn’t like the song where Aamir is wearing unbuttoned shirt, but the script is a good one I assume , a good story, some ppl said it’s not a remake of a tamil movie only but it’s also a remake of a hollywood one.
Let’s wait and see.

Fathiya: Hmmmmm regarding dostana frankly speaking I did not completely see it, I only watched half of it and it was looking ok. I don’t know what the ending was but people said it was a nice movie. My friend watched it and said it was fun to watch, few scenes which I saw were funny but not executed properly I believe. Nonetheless I’m not a big fan of john, abhishek is ok, his movie guru was good. As far as fashion is concerned you can say its a real life story. This is what actually happens as I do have friends in this industry and they do mention what they have went thru. So I liked this movie.

here what I was saying was this as Sahni said that she does not love him and was ready to leave her giving her the house etc., as she had started loving Raj and not Sahni. What I wanted to ask that given such circumstances won’t it be hard for a girl to choose Sahni over Raj.

Shahrukh Khan & Anushka Sharma in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi After grossing a record breaking Rs.90 crores in its first week worldwide, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has crossed beyond a phenomenal Rs.30 crores gross in its second weekend. This is by far the highest collection, even surpassing Dhoom:2 and Chak De India, both of which did outstanding business in their second weekend.
The total collections for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in India over the second weekend are around Rs.15 crores net (i.e. gross collections of Rs.24 crores). Aadil: No.. it won’t be difficult for any woman to decide to keep her husband and leave her lover if her husband was a good man and didn’t harm her in any way.. specially that Sury stood besider her in a very bad circumstances and married her. He even sacrificed lots of things that she feels comfortable in his humble house. He went to sleep in the attic, a dirtly place that she have her own room and privacy. Sury was a very good man but he wasnt her (dream man), so he tried to be one.. to please her and make her smile again.. it’s like a trick but with this trick, he won her.
Many girls fell in love with other guys, but finally, when they reach a stage that they makeup a decision and choose one, they continue life with their partners ( and Tani promised her father to marry him.. so how can she break his heart.. how can she do something that her father won’t agree for.. to walkout from her husband’s life and walk into someone else’s life which won’t rest her dad’s soul in his grave) I’m sure that Tani thought this way.. that it’s wrong.. what she did was wrong as she had to give her husband a chance.. to try to love him.

rabne banadi jodi is awesome………nt only fr SRK bt also fr the story……we gt a clean film after a long time to watch it wid the familiy..luv it nd ofcrss-SRK
