The Mumbai Terror attacks had severely affected box-office collections all over India. All the 6 odd movies that released post the 26/11 attacks were box office disasters. Then came arguably the year’s biggest release. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi directed by Aditya Chopra starring King Khan himself.
A lot was at stake and several questions would be answered on the day.
– It was SRK’s first release in over an year. It is a close battle at the top between SRK and Akshay Kumar. If SRK slips with Rab Ne, Akshay Kumar would be the undisputed King of the box-office.
– It’s been a rough couple of years for Bollywood’s biggest production house. Yashraj Films last hit was Chak De India with SRK.
– And finally the biggest question of them all. Would the terror attacks dent the box office collections of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi?
The answer to the last question is a resounding No. But for the year’s biggest release, the opening wasn’t quite earth shattering as it was expected to be. The reason for which could be the poor pre release promotion and hype.
But thankfully, the movie has picked up big time after a slow start of 50% on Friday morning. The afternoon shows itself showed a spike and the evening and night shows at major multiplexes were full. Saturday and Sunday the movie picked up further registering fantastic collections all over India.
However the response (word of mouth) is mixed. For many, the movie has failed to live upto the huge expecations they had from the DDLJ team. Surinder Sahni has been widely appreciated while the character of Raj has received mixed reactions. Anushka Chopra has been praised for her dancing skills and screen presence.
Overall, Box office wise, as always Monday is most crucial. If it sustains on the weekdays, Shahrukh Khan and Yashraj Films will have yet another successful outing together!

25 Crore Weekend For Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has netted around 25 crore in its first weekend in India. The Mysore circuit has seen record business. Delhi/UP and East Punjab have seen the second highest first weekend totals after Singh Is Kinng. Mumbai circuit is behind Golmaal Returns, Om Shanti Om and Singh is Kinng.
The film is a sure shot hit and is the most profitable film of 2008 but it remains to be seen how far its Indian theatrical business can go. The opinion in the trade is divided on this as some say it will fade pretty fast from Monday onwards while others say it will settle down after the initial resistance from the youth audience.
Mumbai circuit has seen 10.50 crore business, Delhi/UP is 5.50 crore, East Punjab is 2.75 crore, CI is 65 lakhs and Mysore is 1.10 crore. Bihar and CP Berar have fared the lowest and business is Average in these circuits.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has done very well in all the major centres in India over its first weekend. Mumbai/Thane has seen business of around 5 crore and the first week should see 7.50 crore (a new record). Delhi is nearly 3 crore and first week should be 4.50 crore. NCR region which is Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad has grossed a further 2 crore taking the Delhi NCR total to 5 crore. Lucknow is 33 lakhs, Kolkata is good with 75 lakhs, Indore grosses 31 lakhs. Bangalore has seen record business with nearly 1 crore over the weekend.
The big centres in Punjab like Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Jalandhar and Amritsar are also huge with 75 lakhs between them, this is lower than Singh Is Kinng but much bigger than Om Shanti Om.

i dont think the movie has done all that great as pointed out ..its winter up in north and people dont get out of their houses for a evening and late movie ..also the raj character is real loud and srk has done tis before the film has nothing new gizmo to show..in terms of any item..to enthrall the audience .. the schools are about to close with holiday season to begin not the nicest time for a movie when people head out

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has sustained well on Monday. The film saw very good collections in the North ranging between 60-80% while most other parts in the country was 40-60%. Delhi and Punjab were fabulous on Monday while Mumbai was pretty good. Smaller centres in Bihar and CP Berar are poor.
The Monday all India total for the film is around 4.50 crore nett which takes its first four day nett gross to just under 30 crore as the film looks set to finish the first week with business of over 40 crore nett going by the trends on the Monday.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has done exceedingly well in week one with business of around 41 crore nett. The film has done well in all circuits of india though Bihar is on the lower side. Mysore is record breaking and North is very strong. The film should emerge a Superhit and it remains to be seen if it can do blockbuster business. The 8th day is steady at places with smaller centres seeing larger falls.
