Paa is one of the most anticipated films of the year due to several reasons
- Paa is directed by R Balki who directed the critically acclaimed Cheeni Kum (2007).
- Amitabh Bachchan as Auro, suffering from a rare premature aging disease called Progeria.
- Abhishek playing father and Vidya Balan mother to Amitabh Bachchan in the film.
With expecatations of a classic, Paa co-produced by Amitabh Bachchan’s home-production AB Corp on a budget of 14.75 crores, also stars Paresh Rawal and has music composed by Ilaiyaraja.
About Progeria
Progeria is a very rare (one in 8 million) genetic condition, with the most visible symptom being aggressive aging. The disease is terminal and those suffering from Progeria on an average live for about 12 – 13 years.
Other visible symptoms of the disease include wrinkled skin, fragile bodies with a large head, abnormal growth and loss of hair. Currently there are close to 100 known patients worldwide suffering from the disease and 10 of them are from India.
Story
Paa isn’t about the illness but more about a boy (Auro – Amitabh Bachchan) and his family. Auro is a 13 year old suffering from Progeria. Mentally he is his age but physically looks like a 70 year old man. He lives with his mother Vidya (Vidya Balan), who is a doctor. His father Amol (Abhishek Bachchan) is a politician. The movie is about their relationship, struggles, emotions and a lot more.

Paa Review
Paa is a well written and directed film, with adequate amount of emotions, fun and fabulous performances. The second half is brilliant with enough in it to keep you hooked. But the film suffers from a comparatively weaker first half. The pre interval portions deal with Abhishek’s political career and his rivalries, not exactly what you expect while walking in with expectations of a touching father-son tale.
But the second half more than makes up for it and its this half that makes Paa a tremendously satisfying watch. Watch out for the tear-inducing sequences involving Auro and also those light hearted moments all of which are written, executed and performed to perfection.
The music is average. The ‘Mere Paa’ track is good. The makeup by (Domini Till, Christien Tinsley) deserve special mention for turning Bachchan into a realistic looking Progeria patient.
Coming to the performances, Amitabh Bachchan delivers inarguably the best performance of the year. While I would still rate Black a notch higher, Paa is pure brilliance from a legend who is by far the best actor in the industry. Abhishek Bachchan is good, and so are Vidya Balan and Paresh Rawal. But the senior Bachchan’s character is such that it easily out shines the others.
Overall, Paa had potential to be a much better film than it turned out to be. Watch it for the powerful second half and an award worthy performance by the legendary Bachchan.

The business should be best at multiplexes and since the costs are low, Paa should recover its investment in a week or two. Universal acceptance like Taare Zameen Par is unlikely.

Watched Paa once again.. Its not a patch on Taare Zameen Par, remove Amitabh Bachchan out of it and its nothing more than a average fare..
Its Bachchan and his performance alone that makes Paa a good watch.. Too many flaws to mention, re-review will be up tomorrow..
Sudeep before you make statements like “mr.amitabh bachan….he is senior n even movie is not worth watching they give……” Please go watch the film and then comment. This performance would be right up there as the best of the decade along with Hrithik in KMG and Bachchan himself in Black..

Film music is not about songs although in Indian movies it is a factor. Background score is where the focus for film music has to be . No one comes close to Illayaraja in background scores (or for that matter in songs). Paa score is outstanding. One needs knowledge of music (raags, symphony, point, counter point, scales, chords etc) to review music.

I watched paa yesterday n loved that movie so much…….Amitabh ji was tremendous as auro,similarly abhishek also done a great jo as youn politician…..vidya was also good as auro’s Mother…….On the whole Paa Is must wathced movie of 2009……

Paa Struggles On First Day De Dana Dan Good First Week

Paa opened to a poor response on its first day and evening collections did not jump as was expected. High end multiplexes in places like Mumbai and Bangalore did manage an up tick and evening collections were 60-65% but overall there was not a major turnaround with first day finishing at around 40% at multiplexes and 20-25% at single screens. The reports are fantastic and now it remains to be seen if the outstanding reports translate into good collections on Saturday and Sunday.
Radio is a very poor with first day figures around the 20% mark at multiplexes and single screens recording very low collections. The film has little chance at the box office.
De Dana Dhan had a good first week of around 33 crore nett. Multiplexes collections in metroes fell on Monday while other places started falling on Wednesday. Despite a solid first week it remains to be seen how well the film can go from here. It should emerge at least an Average fare but Hit status may be a step too far.
Kurbaan fell in week two with collections around 4 crore nett in week two The two week total is around 24 crore nett. FLOP

PAA is a great movie, which will be nominated for oscars and hopefully, grabs award for amitabh bachan for best actor and R Balki for best direction.
But foreign directors who doesnt deserve to achieve oscar awards for showing our slum life in mumbai.
basically, they are not eligible for that to be frank.
ITS embarrassing for those indians who are being recognized by such a movie outside the india. S*IT !!!!
Moreover, I can rate it 5/5 for PAA.

Here is a review
the music was released yesterday on 4th of dec. Its very rare to release the music just a week before hitting the theatres. The music is composed by salim sulaiman. And its really not appealing for the first time you hear it. The album has 3 fresh songs and rest all are taken from yashrajs previous flicks like bachna e haseeno ,tashan. Whats the use of taking so much time when the result is this?
1) Pocket me rocket sung by benny dayal, the one who sung ‘kaise mujhe’ from ghajini
is just ok type, a party kinda number with poor lyrics
2) gadbadi hadbadi by vishal dadlani is avg. Vishal isn’t aggressive in his tone as in kurbaan’s title track
3) pankhon ko by salim merchant is a soothing number resembles like a song from tare zameen par ‘tu dhup hai’ but only to a certain extent and is nt par with it
and rest like khuda jane, lucky boy, small town girl, dil haara r repetition. Very surprising. Why they have been included in the album.
Expectations were definitely high but music is just avg when wen we compare it with salim sulaimans previous works like fashion, rab ne bana di jodi, luck and kurbaan. The music doesn’t seem to a strength wen its only a week left for its release.
