These predictions are real hard to get right, simply because box office is very unpredictably and a lot depends on the merits of a film. But a film like My Name Is Khan, irrespective of how it turns out to be, is likely to open to huge numbers. The first weekend will no doubt be record breaking, both overseas and India.
Here is our prediction for the year’s most awaited release – My Name Is Khan directed by Karan Johar starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol!
- Opening weekend – 30 crores minimum, could even be as high as 38 – 40 crores including paid previews.
- Week 1 (if loved): 60 crores plus, could easily beat Ghajini.
- Week 1 (if mixed): 55 – 60 crores
- Week 1 (if disliked): 50 – 53 crores
- Lifetime (if loved): 110 – 120 crores. The repeat value is unlikely to be as high as 3 Idiots.
- Lifetime (if mixed): 100 – 110 crores.
- Lifetime (if disliked): 75 – 80 crores
Overseas, the film is likely to beat the record of 3 Idiots even if the reactions are mixed, mainly due to the wide release and the SRK – Karan – Kajol fan-following. $20 million plus is a possibility if the film is loved.
Indian box office numbers will be more interesting though, here are some reasons why
- Aamir Khan currently holds the record for two of the biggest money spinners ever – Ghajini and 3 Idiots. While MNIK is not expected to break the records set by 3 Idiots, it will be interesting to see if the film can beat the 15 month old Ghajini in India.
- Can MNIK beat the opening weekend record of 3 Idiots?

As for MNIK like it or not will take a huge opening,friday’s seats r sold out on the 2’nd day of advance here in kolkata.Let’s hope the movie doesn’t dissapoints me.

dipen last 2 srk muvis r record breaking blockbuster oso brroke the record of dhoom2 and rabne broke oso but maybe this time it will get close to 3idiots maybe in the range of 180 crore is possible but will fall just short for sure if its a great muvi as well its my prediction

SRK’s acting look like artificial not real in this film . Aamirs acting is natural, fres & fluent in every films .
Hina: for me.. both Kurban and KANK were good movies.. KANK wasn’t bad at the box office, wasn’t a flop movie and it was a big interesting movie.. we, the family members and some friends enjoyed watching it..I think it didn’t do so well in yr country because the audience rejected the ending.
And don’t feel sad Hina if Veer wasn’t a hit movie.. Salman is a powerful actor, everyone just love him.. and he’ll do some good movies for sure in future, i thought Salman’s career was over after the movie Yuvraaj but I was wrong.. he came back with his movie Wanted & London Dreams and proved that he deserves to be among the 5 biggest stars of bollywood although LD didn’t do well in yr country.. and that was really shocking! you should feel sorry for this movie that it didn’t do well because it deserved to be a hit but Veer in fact, got what it deserved!

It is true that Veer has been watched by more people than other hits as it is being watched mainly in theatres with low ticket rates and high entertainment taxes. The average ticket value for a film like Love Aaj Kal is probably about 100-110 while for Veer it’s probably 50-60 so this means that Veer has had more admissions. If your film works in circuits like the ones Veer has you will a lot of people watching the film but as ticket prices are low, the business will not be that high. The film is probably amongst top ten films in last three years if we go by actual tickets sold and that is a great way to judge a film from public point of view but box office is always judged from economics point of view.

I am Pakistani.But literally one movie Khuda K liye it has all n its the best movie on this topic so far.From Fanna till kurban I have always noted that Bollywood movies haven’t been well reserached out.Just watch Khuda K liye every dialogue is so influential.Shoaib Mansoor has presented the real meaning of Islam so beautifully.Bollywood movies are full of flaws when they take such a sensitive topic.I really wish MNIK changes the mind set n sets new standard.N SRK becomes influential in this role.
Music is very poor…….Dont know what hpnd to Shanker Ehsaan Loy .This music remindz me of tere naam same type of composition but i wll prefer A R REHMAN…He should hve given blockbuster music…Then i would prefer Himesh (only as music director not singer) & at last Pritam ( hit machine)..

@ Hina: No I am not new here but I m not a regular visitor…. That was why I couldn’t notice your previous comments……. But ur recent comments show that you are a big fan of Salman Khan and you try to defend him even if he doesn’t deliver…So that was why I notified you and Fathiya as Fathiya is SRK’s fan and she doesn’t want anyone to say anything against him even if he didn’t act well in those movies…
We expect a lot from our favourite stars and when they don’t live upto the expectations, we try to defend them even if their movie is not that good…..My point is that we should be honest by heart….If you don’t like the movie then you should have the courage to say that even if the movie belongs to ur fav star like in your case “VEER” was not that good, we all know that but we are trying to defend just because it’s a Slaman Khan’s movie…..Script and Direction was very weak in VEER. For me it is just a below average movie…..
MNIK is a little bit different in content…..The main difference is “SRK is not a terrorist in this movie” whereas in Fanna, New York and Kurbaan (Amir, John and SAK were terrorists)…..So it will definitely change the mind set…. Let’s hope that the movie lives upto the expectations…..
