Is MNIK worth the media coverage its getting?

Nothing against Shahrukh Khan or Karan Johar here. But watching every news channel and newspaper give My Name Is Khan national importance, is hard to digest. Even now with the film having released across all multiplexes in India, the topic of discussion and debate continues to be the film.

Surely there are bigger problems in the country, that deserve more coverage and importance, don’t you think?

Also would other actors get the same backing from the media, the government and not to mention the industry, as MNIK has?

1) When Aamir Khan’s Fanna was banned in Gujarat, not many stood up for the actor, least the media. The producers (Yashraj) lost a lot of money.

2) Hrithik Roshan’s last film Jodha Akbar too was banned in Rajasthan, later in Madhya Pradesh and eventually in UP. Where was the government, the media? Why wasn’t the same security and assurance provided to the film and its makers? The film lost 6 – 8 crores, no less.

All we are trying to say here is, irrespective of how big / small the film is, irrespective of who the lead star is, every film that is passed by the censor board should witness a smooth release all over.

  • @dipen: u have given info about mnik n veer, but for knowing who is the king of india u have to put info about 3 idiots.

  • @ Dipen Sen

Promotion was cancelled out by the fact that HALF of Maharasthra and many other screens did not show the film.
If it did then Trade Analysts said that 10 crore and above was a DISTINCT possibility. Therefore aakhir mein, the 24/7 promotion did its job as the opening for My Name is Khan was HUGE and bigger than the likes of Veer, Kambhkt Ishq, Singh is Kinng even though it had ALOT of setbacks unlike the aformetioned 3.

do you understand, face the facts!!!

  • Dipen and others, why not just wait for the weekend to end? Saturday was HUGE for MNIK, more than 11 – 12 crores. Sunday too has opened to packed houses, although the response is very mixed. The film is certainly not for everyone, the reactions are extreme.

  • @ Indicine

11-12 CRORES on saturday, whoa? But how do you know?

ps. dont want to sound rude, but no media release on saturday takings.

  • indicine dont ry to fake the figures saturday was more close to 10cr but might be a liitle less than 10cr.

i have a feeling that somebody else has adopt the screen name indicine and post this

  • even if these are comments from official indicine these are premature figures. guess they have predicted very big opening for mnik.
maharastra region cost mnik only 1.5cr but the controversy raises the collection by 3-4cr. without hte cheap publicity the film might do 5cr first day business.

and indicine its a well known fact that your site dont have the required resource to give even approx collection

  • where are the exact saturday collections for mnik?
    does anibody know?
from where did you get these figures indicine?

  • your figures always come at last and do give your figures a bit of authenticity you deviate the figures by 2-3cr here or there.

loook i come here to have disscussion because this is the only site who provides you to do so. but can you just name some of your source like BOX OFFICE INDIA have, even bollywoodhungama take figures from box office india. and box office india have already stated that word of moth is not good.

finally tell me your source indicine i bet you dont have even a bit of idea what collection will come tomorrow

    ……………………………………
    NOW DECIDE who iz who…..
    …………………………………..

thr iz nthng my own… jst figures….
    …………………………………………………..

    & read ths question also….
    Q. Anil Sharma has claimed that Veer has been watched by more people than many major hits. Is this true?
    A. Box Office success is judged by the money though technically actual success is amount of people watching the film. It is true that Veer has been watched by more people than other hits as it is being watched mainly in theatres with low ticket rates and high entertainment taxes. The average ticket value for a film like Love Aaj Kal is probably about 100-110 while for Veer it’s probably 50-60 so this means that Veer has had more admissions. If your film works in circuits like the ones Veer has you will a lot of people watching the film but as ticket prices are low, the business will not be that high. The film is probably amongst top ten films in last three years if we go by actual tickets sold and that is a great way to judge a film from public point of view but box office is always judged from economics point of view.

  • 11-12cr??? Indicine again s defending their review i guesss..;)

Accordin to wat i heard sat was 9-10cr, and sunday s expected to be around 11cr..:)

Indicine always gives 2-3cr higher than actual fig if they give 4/5 and 1-2cr less if their ratin s 2/5..;) he he

  • @sami just cool

Zoom Tv says that on saturday show you can check it

Mnik in India 1950 prints 7.92 crores .

    Average per print 7.92/1950

    = 40,615.38462 rupees

Veer in India 1300 prints 7.01 crores

    Average per print 7.01/1300

    = 53,923.07692 Rupees

Saturdays collections will be 6.5 crores

Do you understand silly boy ?

  • @Dude understand this

Maharastra region cost mnik only 1.5cr but the controversy raises the collection by 3-4cr. without hype & cheap publicity the film might do 5cr first day business.

saturday will be 6.5 Crores .

    Dont mind its reality

  • Hey guys, Saturday collections of MNIK are out….It iis close to 9.2 crores. according to a trade analyst,it is a fairly nice collections keeping in mind the saturday blasts in Pune. Night shows everywhere were dull.. Expecting a good sunday of around 9-10 crores. After that its all about the public word of mouth.

  • @ Dipen Sen

Look silly boy, you need to get you print count right before you star lecturing me on which film did better. I will not say my argument again as a think your deaf as well as blind, so no reason to.

Your argumnent about Mahrashtra doesnt make any sense, write proper english and also dont use other peoples arguments.

Zoom tv has nothing on saturday gross, so now you are making stuff up.

In future try coming across less like a salman khan fanboy and more like a right minded moviegoer.’Nuff sad.

  • NEW DELHI: Controversies notwithstanding, the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer “My Name Is Khan” has gone on to rake in around Rs 250 million (about $5.3

million) across the globe on the opening day.

Directed by Karan Johar, “My Name is Khan” was released on Friday.

“We are delighted with the performance and audience reactions across demographics. More so, because this is only phase one of the film release,” Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios India, the Indian distributors of the film, said in a statement.

“In addition to the release across 45 countries, MNIK will be rolled out in a phased manner across 25 non-traditional markets from April onwards.”

The film features Shah Rukh as Rizvan Khan who embarks on a journey across America to win back the love of his life, played by Kajol. It shows how, along the way, his personality touches the lives of many and inspires a nation.

The movie is being marketed and distributed by Fox Star in India, in the US by its sister company Fox Searchlight and in the rest of the world by parent group 20th Century Fox International.

In New Zealand, the opening day collection was about $9,727 while in the Middle-East, the movie is already 50 percent higher than any other previous film in Bollywood with the earning estimated at $300,000.

There’s also a huge demand for additional prints in the existing chains across the Middle East and the print count is expected to increase to around 60 by next week.

According to Fox, the film also will be released in Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Oman and Lebanon in the coming week.

In terms of paid previews, the movie earned about $193,000 from 89 sites in Britain, which is said to be the highest for a single-day preview there. In Australia Thursday, paid previews collected around $34,000 and it ranked number 11.

  • @Sami bro, this information is from a media person who is my friend. He has told not to disclose because they have to show dis information from tomm onwards on their channel…Bt how u feel is d collection bro..?

  • @Sami

your justification is useless & use proper english also .

Zoom tv ke show dekh lo India mein kitne prints release kiye tab pata chal jayega .

    1950 prints 7.92 crores in India .

  • jab itni publicity karenge 24 hours,
on sat jab vo 25cr kehker public ko fool banayengey.
public to ye think kar rahi hogi tht 25 cr in india.
n 2day also starnews channel n liveindia news channel r saying tht mnik
is blockbuster,n promoting MNIK 24 HOURS 2SAY ALSO.

  • Zoom tv has nothing on the prints released in India, other wise show me the link, go on.
I am telling you what Vijay Singh said and btw my english is perfect, hence i dont go into hindi half way through my sentence and please stop using my own arguments against me, thats sad, you sound like a real annoying guy, are all salman khan fans like this?

  • @ deepak

not saying your friend is not a credible source, except that weekend grosses are thrown around in the media like wildfire, therefore i only believe credible sources like BOI and also IBOS (but given there Anti-srk stand, i wont be using them this time).

  • @sami dont need your explaination regarding who is king of india ok , sallu bhai is king and good human being from his heart specially ,despite let down by some of media

and about mnik not being srk fan also i had given my personal appreciation of 4 stars to mnik only for message with act of srk in mnik

and regarding box office collecetion just like veer final verdict of mnik will be in same manner hit in some territories and overall below average movie …veer come on this status despite being let down by critics only on salman star power and due to it huge budjet it no reached hit status overall till yet since it is running in many cinema overall and about mnik political issue + good star ratings but wait and watch after some time it will also below average film with mix response like veer and may get hit satus in some territories like veer …..

but to reach status like ghajni or 3 diots mnik is a still a long way to go …

  • @Sami bro, its strange to see dat despite all d media hype d film got,it still is grossing around 28 crores in its first weekend. Keeping d budget of d film in mind, its rather difficult to achieve dat. Hope it doesnt go d “veer” way, which also strtd well wid around 25 crore weekend bt cudnt sustain till d end nd got average status. I hope MNIK does bettr business bt d audience verdict is nt as expectd. They feel d film is nt for d masses bt for classes. Remembr Veer nd 3I were for masses.. Lets hope for d industry’s best.. Wat u feel Sami bro..?

  • @ Afrid Khan

we live in a democracy, everyone is entitled to his/hers view. To say “we dont need your view” is a bit insulting becuase mate i dont exactly need your view either, but since it is a democracy i have to put up with it.

As for My name is Khan being an average movie like Veer in terms of box office collections, sorry but i dont think so. My name is Khan is already showing record collections for worldwide collection

veer: 41 crore worldwide (weekend number 1, thurs, fri, sat, sun)

My name is Khan: 25 crore (thursday plus friday only)

However i agree with you on India gross, both will be average grossers in India, neither of the films subjects appeal to the whole of India.

  • @Sami

    zoomtvbollybusiness.com

Yesterday On saturday show at 7.30pm

    1950 prints in India &

    550 prints in overseas

    Total 2500 prints worldwide

    Its reality

  • @ Deepak

its very strange that only 28 crore (not yet verified), but you cant determine how a film will do.
Veer was also for masses but look at it. Although My name is khan gross has been hevily shit by the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. Not making excuses, but it is clear for any right minded individual scene. MNIK should appear to recover costs (people saying the budget is 100 crore, Vijay Singh has already clarifed on this point, budget was not even half of 100) as more cinemas start screening it.

In my honest opinion, I hope My name is Khan does not go the Veer way, Veer deserved it for having some cringeworthy scenes but then again so does My name is Khan (the school scene when teacher teaches that Islam is the most violent religion is a ridciulous scene). But MNIK also has many applaud worthy scene. I applaud SRK, he is neither my favourite nor do i hate him, but he has made a film which not many others would think of doing, the “support muslims campaign” has not been touched on by any big mainstream bollywood actors. Saif Alis attempt was a ” be American first, muslim later” film.
There are plenty of scenes in MNIK eg the masjid scene which are very accurate. So my hope is that the film at least breaks even.
