There were two films releases last weekend. One film had arguably the biggest star cast of 2015 in a genre that was expected to hold universal appeal. The other was expected to take a slow start and perform well in a couple of states if the word-of-mouth was nothing less than excellent.
Not a single trade analyst gave Bajirao Mastani a chance. Even in the worst case scenario, Dilwale was expected to lead. After all, the audience tend to like entertainers. Like we mentioned in one of our articles, Dilwale had a team that never failed (read). The director has given several blockbusters, the lead star is arguably the biggest the industry has ever produced and his pairing with Kajol is evergreen. The younger star, Varun Dhawan, had taken giant strides in the last couple of years.
But the box office game is unpredictable and a great leveller. Every star, big or small, has to go through this test every time his / her film releases. For someone like Shah Rukh Khan – who we firmly believe is beyond box office numbers, for the simple reason that he has achieved everything (and more) in the industry – it is still a test. He is the face of films like Dilwale and the responsibility of ensuring that the investors of his films recover their investment and earn profits, is on his shoulders.
The responsibility further increased with a film like ‘Dilwale’ because his company turned distributors and is now adopting a semi-studio model by both producing and distributing their films. Territories were also sold for exorbitant prices because the film was expected to collect no less than Rs 200 crore and recovery for individual distributors might prove to be tough if the film doesn’t sustain in the long run.
On the other hand, we have a film that was written off by everyone in trade, including us. It’s that very film that could eventually win the battle and topple the all mighty against all odds.
We are going with a very bold prediction for both Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale. We expect the Shah Rukh Khan starrer to finish below the 150 crore mark at the domestic box office and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani to cross the 165 crore in India.

@indicine, I am still think that film will collect more than 180 cr. It has that potential and I saw the movie, and it’s a good movie.
I am a Salman fan, but not a Shahrukh hater. I have seen Dilwale but not seen Bajirao yet.

This is indeed a very bold prediction and we have no other option but to believe these predictions unless Dilwale holds very strongly and makes better utilisation of holiday period than Bajirao Mastani..This is indeed a lesson for SRK to start doing good films which hold universal appeal..not too classy ones and neither crap masala for sure..a film like chennai express which has all elements for everyone will do..
All said and done,failures are a part of life and u have to learn from them and move forward.his next two films are looking very interesting especially Raees so all the best King Khan..we love u and will always do

(SRK) has been making bad decisions and bad choices since 2009 and he deserves all the problems and hurddles he is facing!
1- Rejected (3Idiots) and did (Billu) ..
if he did (3I) he would have got (PK) to his kitty too.
2- Rejected (Robot) and did (Ra.one)!
3- He should have refused (JTHJ) as in this case (YRF) had three films for the three Khans (JTHJ-D3-ETT) but gave the weakest of them all to (SRK)!
4- When his competitors were doing commercially viable films He did (HNY) with (Farah) which he could have avoided!
5- He shouldn’t have clashed with a film that looked like a classic with a film that was going to work only for the weekend.
6- The intolerence comment is an idiotic move by the man we thought was intelegent, even (Aamir) wouldn’t said what he said if he had a film ready for release.
and the list goes on …
and now even after this he is mostly gonna do films with either crap directors or newcomers and prefers to avoid competent directors like (Kabir Khan) and (Hirani)…
Now one thing is sure if the fourth part of (Dhoom series) is offered to (Salman) or (Hrithik) we should believe it is because it has good content, and (YRF) will offer it to (SRK) only if they have doubts and need his name to give an oppening to their film!

Saddest moment for me in recent years of my life.I never felt that much even on my own failures in life.No excuses are going to justify such performance.I havent seen BM yet ,but I really liked Dilwale.It was way better than HNY and CE.But its a routine masala film which is very good for entertainment but doesnot has anything new to present to audience.Overseas performance of Dilwale is though very encouraging for me ,I hope SRK already top overseas following will shoot up on his return to performance oriented films.FAN,RAEES,Gauri Shinde next,Anand Rai next and no masala film,no plain romantic film.So srk just return to your fort “your acting skill”.I have watched even your masala movies and will watch all movies irrespective of its wom ,content etc.And salman fans & Srk haters tumhara time ha ye jitni leni ha srkians ki le lo.Even SLB wouldnt be as happy as you will be…but ye na samaj lena k SRK gaya wo ae ga,aur zaror ae ga
