FAN has collected Rs 18-19 crore on Sunday at the box office, taking the 3-day collections to 52 – 53 crore net – as per early estimates (official collections will be published in the morning).
Multiplex business did show decent growth on the 3rd day, especially at metro cities where the occupancy for the noon and evening shows was pretty good.
Monday now becomes all important for the Shah Rukh Khan starrer. Tickets at multiplexes are sold for a cheaper price during the weekdays. For example, PVR Juhu in Mumbai was selling night show tickets for Rs 380 for the weekend, the same show ticket for the weekdays (Monday to Thursday) is 30% cheaper at Rs 270.
Since the film is performing mainly at multiplexes, the drop in ticket prices will have an impact on business.
Ideally, FAN needs to hold to around the 9-10 crore mark on Monday. This would give the film a fair chance of not only recovering costs, but going on to become a decent grosser.

Dear SRKians, keep calm. FAN was not meant for box office collection. It was meant to change the perception of cinema for viewers. And it delivered what it promised. A completely offbeat cinema experience in the times of same old masala schtick. FAN is a movie for a lifetime. Don’t give a damn about box office. After all, SRK was always meant to be a better actor given his talent. So, let’s praise the movie and not the numbers.

I have always found people trying to put SRK down and saying that had he not rejected 3 idiots he would have been a bigger star. And some of these people call themselves as SRK FANS.
For all those questioning why srk rejected 3 idiots, lets remember he was doing mnik then. mnik was an awesome movie and no other actor could have pulled it off in the way srk did.
Yes, in terms of collections 3idiots was better, but as an srk fan, i am very happy with his decision. You do not get a film like mnik everyday. It would have been great had he done both, but if he had to choose one and its mnik over 3 idiots, then I am with him.
As far as collections/records are concerned they change with an every KHAN film. Some things are beyond numbers.. and MNIK was one such film. Having watched FAN, I bet this is gonna be a landmark for SRK once again. Once a king, always a king and if there is anyone who can take over, it should be prince – Junior SRK may be.

The diversity of roles and the consistency is there for everyone to see. Numbers represent stardom not acting talent.
And those questioning SRK’s stardom, the numbers are there to see. His last 6 movies have generated tremendous business overseas and have been decent grossers India (Chennai Express the only record grosser)
Salman Khan movies (since Dabangg) have generated good business in India but not the same overseas (BB the only exception)
So stardom-wise both the actors are at the same level, but when it comes to acting, SRK is slightly better than Salman, if not by huge.
Airlift was released in 2000 screens and collected 45 cr in first weekend and FAN was released in 3500 screens and collected only 51 cr.

Billu was without a doubt srk’s movie , believe me whatever buzz & marketing the film was able to garner it was solely & only bcos of srk , it was a flop that’s why his fans don’t include it as his movie but I am sure had billu been a BB they would have been the 1st to shout at the top of their voices that “billu bcame a BB only & only bcos of srk”
Ra.1 will always a controversial & disputed hit , in relative terms it was a real flop at the BO in every sense , whatever people or even indicine say but the truth is that Ra.1 will remain as one of the most embarrassing flops in srk’s career.
Dilwale again was a flop at the domestic BO but was forced to give it a semi-hit verdict based on its overseas collections & its overall collection . It is no doubt the only movie 400+ crore flop in Bollywood history.
And now fan is all set to bcom as big a flop as billu or paheli & with raees’s prospects looking as bleak as dilwale or hny , srk will go down in history books as the only superstar in bollywood history who wasn’t able to give a single HGOTY for 8 long years even in his GOOD PHASE (I still say good phase bcos his movies were still taking big opening , overseas collections were also huge , marketing & promotion was the most ostentatious ever seen, Was releasing his movies on big holidays working with top directors , top actresses & big production houses ) .

I am really disappointed with the collections. If it is not going to cross 100cr, it will be a failure for me.
Leave all the odds like genre, no songs etc (others call them as “excuses”) , but according to me, if there is a movie starring the “Khans”, it should collect at least 100cr irrespective of the genre and plot. Their names sells and many of the die-hard fans (I am one among them) rush to the theatres without caring much about the story and plot.
But in this case, I am unable to find out what went wrong. Movie was not bad , it got thumbs up from critics , still such poor collections.
Though, as I sad above, I am not going to list down the factors affecting FAN as there is no point of doing that now. It should have collected 100cr in any scenario or against any odds.
But I have noticed something weird (may be I am completely wrong).
SRK always had haters (every successful person has that), but the number of his haters have increased quite significantly after his intolerance remark. And I am not saying that based on views of different people on social media or websites like “Indicine” or Twitter trends, but I have experienced that personally.
I am associated with few of the groups (comprising my friends) on WhatsApp and in one of those groups, I received a message on Thursday evening and the message concluded , “SRK has played with our sentiments, hence boycott his movie to teach him a lesson”. Being an ardent SRK fan, I promptly replied that I will watch it on first day itself and I don’t have to “Boycott” a movie to prove my nationality. But let’s look into the broader side.
The guy, who forwarded that message is well educated, still he got into this bullshit. And trust me, I personally know dozens of such people, who travel without a ticket in trains, spit and urinate at the public places, but for them if they boycott a movie, they automatically become a true nationalist and patriot. Many people are not turning up at all (irrespective of the reviews) to watch his movies in theatres.
Above experience should not be taken as an excuse, but it’s clearly impacting the stardom of SRK and I am afraid it will continue to affect him in future too.
To nullify this impact, he should have had few strong movies into his kitty to shut the mouth of haters and these religious fringe, but unfortunately his last 2-3 movies were not so great that they could bring the large number of neutral audiences in theatres. So in future, he would really need a strong script with universal appeal, if he has to get his spot back (which unfortunately seems to be on stake as of now).
So, with low/average performance (not confirmed but yet expected) of FAN, should we conclude that the stardom of SRK is fading away and he will soon enter the phase, through which Amit Ji underwent in 90s. Well, that is too early to predict but yes, he will have to undergo a long process to win the hearts of neutral audiences again (as his fans will remain his fans irrespective of the Highs and lows of his career) and precisely, he will have to start everything from the scratch.
With the splendid performance in FAN, I guess he has taken the first step and his line-up looks strong too, but then, all his upcoming movies should click and connect well to the audiences in order to churn out big numbers on box-office.
My another worry is, the release dates of upcoming SRK movies.
As per the rumors, Raees will be shifting to make way for Sultan this Eid. If that happens, then million dollar question is, which date Raees will be occupying further?
With Sultan scheduled for a solo release on Eid and Dangal scheduled for a solo release on Xmas, two of his competitors will make huge money on box-office irrespective of the content (as their movies will be releasing solo without any competition in a festive period). But whether SRK releases his movie on Eid or shifts to Independence Day/Diwali, it will clash with other movies and thus, collections will be eventually be divided and low irrespective of the content or WOM.
And not only this year, next year too, all the lucrative release periods are already booked.
Hence, not sure how SRK will be planning his upcoming movies and whether he will get holiday weekends or not.
Going forward, is it a right time to conclude that SRK is nowhere in the competition and Salman/Amir has gone far beyond his reach ?
Well, that again will be an exaggeration.
In terms of collections, yes, Amir and Salman have churned huge number with their recent releases, but then, the ground reality will be known only when they, too, release their movies on a non-holiday or with clash (with not so good script).
Because, if we go into past, Both Amir and Salman didn’t do so well on a non-holiday. Moreover, with the same kind of content and same release period, the collection of SRK and Salman movies (HNY and PRDP) were almost on par with a difference of 10 cr.
So it won’t be fair if we rule out SRK completely against these two as he just needs a good script with universal acceptance and favorable release period. If despite of getting all that he fails, then we can conclude that his days are over.
And don’t forget that if we consider the worldwide collections, still his lowest performing movie is out of reach for few of the superstars (FAN , too, is performing exceptionally well in overseas).
On that note, I have no hesitation to accept that now, Salman and Amir certainly have got a slight edge over SRK based on their current standing (not so because of stardom or fan following , but because of the script selection as well). Salman and Amir both have at least one movie which was universally accepted and which they can be proud of. But unfortunately, SRK doesn’t have any such movie in his kitty since long long time. Despite of his spectacular performance in FAN, it failed to connect to the spectators from mass centres.
As far as trolling is concerned, if FAN is not crossing the 100cr mark, then there is no way, but we will have to gracefully accept those trolls. Haters have got a golden opportunity and perhaps, if I would have got this opportunity against others, I would have done the same or even in more fierce way.
“Collections below 100cr are not acceptable at all”.

@Indicine : Sometimes, we go over the top to criticize you when we don’t get an article favoring our star, but you guys are literally awesome. I remember, you had predicted a LBO of 143cr for Dilwale and I promptly shown my disinterest as I expected more. But eventually, it collected 148cr in it’s entire lifetime (very close to your prediction).
So after reading your LBO somewhere I am afraid that you guys might bang on the target this time too, and FAN will wrap up within 100cr.
