Blue Movie Review

Blue is one of the most anticipated movies of the year and according to the makers, its by far the costliest Bollywood movie ever. Starring Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta, Zayed Khan and Katrina Kaif (special appearance) Blue directed by Anthony D’Silva is the much hyped Diwali release. Does it live upto expectations and justify the Rs 800 odd millions spent on this action adventure thriller?

Blue Review

3 reasons to watch Blue

  • Underwater visuals : Sequences filmed underwater are a pure visual treat, something never witnessed in Bollywood before.  Credit : Peter Zuccarini (Pirates of the Caribbean)
  • Fabulous Action : About 4 Bike sequences provide the necessary adrenaline rush, the sequence on the train is the best of the lot.
  • Lara Dutta :  Not in the history of Bollywood has an actress managed to look so stunning in a Bikini. Lara Dutta, for two thirds of her role, is clad looking super-hot in a variety of two-piece bikini’s.

Several reasons why Blue should be avoided!

  • Where’s the script? Like every other Akshay Kumar movie, Blue has a utterly stupid plot and completely lacks substance. Watching Blue is like flipping between Discovery (or National Geographic) and MTV on television. Just that the later would be much more informative, interesting and entertaining.
  • The director takes his own sweet time to get the point, the treasure hunt begins 20 mins into the second half and ends before you could blink an eye lid! The whole build up and the fall-out after the discovery of the treasure is a joke!
  • Dialogues are unintentionally funny.
  • Music by A.R Rahman surprisingly isn’t up to his usual high standards.
  • Background score is weak.
  • In a poorly sketched character, Akshay Kumar sleep walks through his role.
  • Sanjay Dutt looks tired and old.
  • Zayed Khan looks good, but makes no impact.
  • Katrina Kaif looks stunning, all good until she gets to mouth dialogues.

What’s laugh-worthy (Possible Spoilers)

  • The first half is wasted establishing the characters and to set-up the hunt for the treasure. Now getting to the treasure is one hellava risky task, something many have tried and lost their lives. Only the pot-bellied Sagar (Sanjay Dutt) looking horribly unfit can get there. But the ease with which the characters get the lost chest, surrounded by sharks, you wonder why no one could ever get to it in 50 odd years!
  • The 50 year old Sanjay Dutt romancing the stunning Lara Dutta was unintentionally funny. Seriously, the role demanded a much younger actor!

Overall, Blue is about 80 – 100 crores of money drowned deep into the Sea. And for the makers, recovering it wouldn’t be close to as easy as shown in the film.

Save money and enjoy Diwali with Family and Friends. At the box office, the opening is expected to be huge, but recovering the bucket loads of money that has gone into the making would prove to be extremely difficult.

Rating: ★½☆☆☆ For Lara Dutta and those underwater and bike sequences.

  • Well finally got around to seeing blue, and I must see its a complete flop. I saw absolutely nothing in the way of a story line. Lara dutta and Katrina were just placed more so on the screen to look just pretty and for eye appeal. Never liked Zayed khan to begin with so enough said about him. It’s just a time pass movie and like fathiya said and I agree no content. not worth watching. I watched Main aurr Mrs. Khanna and comparison wise I liked it more. Whatever Fathiya said I agree with so I don’t need to repeat myself.

  • Indicine Team: kindly delete Sumon’s abusive comment.

And Sumon: I respect Shahrukh Khan for what he is..and I respect Madhuri Dixit for her talent and charm.. and I admire Ranbir Kapoor’s performance, cute boy.. and I like also Neil Mukesh’s look as well as his acting, so if I respect actors and appreciate their talent and value them so that doesn’t mean that I want to sleep with them idiot.

if u got a dirty mind as well as a dirty tongue and if (that) is your level of thinking and yr culture so that’s not mine for sure! such a low grade ppl on this website.. just go back to yr mom and let her teach u how to talk to others!!

And hey you.. do u want me to love and admire Akshay Kumar by force!!!!!!!!!!!!! do u want me to love the movie “blue” by force too!!! hahaha dumbo guy… just go and treat yr brain.. see a doctor.. I think you really need help!!!

or just scream and sing beatles’ song: help.. I need somebody.. help.. not just anybody.. help.. you know I need someone ( yeah.. u need a help!)

  • Hello Kiran.. when u saw Main aur Mrs. Khanna, didn’t u ask yourself the same question as I did: why Salman used to reject his wife’s telephone calls?! that wasn’t convincing as well as the scene at the airport.. when Karina gets the news that her husband is back.. there was no expression on her face at all.. feeling of happiness! anyways.. I think the indian audience doesn’t love these kind of stories, about relationships.. it wasn’t a family movie as everyone said.. it was about relationships and the circumstances which come in the way.. at least the movie had something to tell the audience, wasn’t boring, but what was in the movie “blue”?!!! did u feel the big budget as everyone say?! it did money only because of Akshay’s name and because of the release date.. Diwali

  • Hi Fathiya

I agree with you Blue only did well due to diwali weekend, but lets not overlook that fact that is what people go for nowadays, bikinis and “fun adventure” whatever that means to them. Like I said earlier its just a generation gap, and like you said these people just want us to like these kinds of movies by force. The reason why you have gotten alot of attacks here is because maybe deep down they know what you are saying is right but like you said they need to have their brains checked out, but time will take care of them. Diwali weekend I think definetely had a hand in why collections may have been so big for Blue, India has got way more holidays than we do here in US, and its just a trend that is happening in India. My in-laws live there and they tell me that Indians always desperately try to copy American culture whatever that means to them, so no need to get upset at anyone here, these guy in here in their early 20’s aren’t as rooted as we were to know any better.

  • Fathiya

Well this isn’t the right forum, but as far as MAMK is concerned like I said the acting was a bit flat and yes Salman and Kareena did look expressionless alot of times and their lines were just to the point. However, I still liked it because at least their was some story line or something meanigful to be picked up from it than a crap like Blue. MAMK is a about a simple couple who truly to do love eachother, and I really liked how even when they were at a distance they never betrayed one another and they thought of eachother’s best interest. The message was good, although I admit the acting was flat but still worthwhile. But I know many people won’t like this movie since kareena isn’t practically nude, and its a simple story not too loud and not enough crap thrown into it. People don’t like to see hardships these days, had salman and kareena been living in a huge mansion and cheated on eachother and more crap thrown in then it would have geled a bit better with more people.

  • hey kiran and fathiya ,
as AKKI said that romantic and movies based on relationship always have a place in india . i dont knw in which country u put up but what i feel that and i knw abt my friends and near ones that they are bored of these movies based on relationship, they want something new or a good laugh. thats the reason only such movies do good business. its not about biknis and babes one can watch baywatch if we want to see bikni babes and so much stuff on internet . it was somethi9ng different from what has been already done in bollywood . had they kept the fact that AKKI is villain a secret ,movie wd have done much better buisness. anyways jo ho gaya so ho gaya par haan main reason yehi hai aur agar kisi ko emotion and romance dekhne hota hai to woh yashraj ya karan johar prefer karte hai bajaye ke some novice untill or unless that new guy has made a very spl movie .
i think this will give u a bit of idea abt y main aur mrs khanna might not have worked.

ya atleast i never wanted u guys to love blue becoz i loved it because there is nothing which is liked by evryone or the entire population maybe except sholay ,chupke chupke , andaz apna apna etc

  • @kiran
i think most of the young indians i have seen in campus areas have same cultural roots but we also want our india to stand along with developed nations and not behind them in any field. u wanted progress or maybe ur husband wanted progress so u guys moved to US . here in india the youth want india to be along side developed nations and want bollywood to make movies like hollywood in technique etc . anyways its all abt personal perception .
and i think u have underestimated the star power of AKKI by saying its just becoz of holidays that blue did this much business. after giving 2 flops and one average movie still he get s such a big opening in india. had this movie done without AKKI and just by zayed and sanju it wd have earned half of what it has earned . anyways i hope some misperception abt indian wd have disappeared from ur mind becoz u arent staying in india so u cant understand what we feel and like etc etc . :)

  • @Punter

First of all I’m not from India okay. I was born and raised in Canada and US for your info. As far as progress is concerned that has got nothing to do with movies. Entertainment and economy are two different things. I never said there was anything wrong with action packed movies for that matter I loved Singh is Kinng so don’t even tell me that i don’t like akshay kumar and he was fantastic in Namastey London. What I said was that Blue in itself had no story or content and I just found it boring. You’re mixing up national progress with cultural things and that’s precisely what I was trying to say. If people are liking these types of movies because it can’t be a coincedence that movies have moved away from more simpler family story lines to whatever and this is being soaked up by the audience and they love it what does that say about the indian audience. I don’t know if you have been abroad or not, but me and my friends who are all from North America seems like we are more in touch with our cultural roots than the youth of india. Have you ever heard the saying “the grass looks greener on the other side”. No offence but when indians come here they really haven’t got a clue of the reality here, how hard you have to work to succeed day and night, and we don’t have as many holidays as India, for us most of our holidays come at the end of the year and even when we do have time we can’t take off from work. Yeah one more thing these whites aren’t as happening and having fun as you guys in India think, they can be one heck of a confused boring lot FYI. Just by making movies like Blue does not equal national progress, for that you got to have the right attitude, and I don’t want to get into it but there are so so many things that need to come before that can happen. Just by wearing revealing clothes and dancing in clubs isn’t progress in my opinion. I have had great times all through my life, but never lost my cultural roots. Some people here are claiming that family movies take India backwards and in my opinion I don’t think so. What doesn economical progress got to do with movies. That is more of a societal preference due to changing times than anything else, all because I think indians in India want to be more “western”. A movie can be modern but that doesn’t necessarily mean I will say oh such a movie was great when it wasn’t. I’ve got alot of modernism in me but only where it is necessary and what I was saying Indians sometimes just don’t know where to put the brakes on that’s all. Oh and by the way who doesn’t like a good laugh when you go to see a movie, but I have seen the indian audience reject movies that were worth watching but didn’t appreciate it. Its good to go to the movie theatre once in a while for a change but sounds like the Indian audience just goes there to let out their frusterations and forget about reality for a couple of hours or tell me otherwise?

  • Just forgot a few more things I wasn’t underestimating akki, I know he is a great actor, but that doesn’t mean every movie he makes has got to be great. Also by mentioning something about watching Baywatch on the internet you have kind of admitted maybe you or your friends watch that show or love it, so natually you think that’s what life here in North America is all about. Some of the clothes that indian actresses wear in movies these days, girls don’t even wear that here on a daily basis, none of me and my friends ever have and we are all pretty modern but still grounded and no we arent’ that old I’m much younger than akki. Also you said Indians want to watch movies that show the technical advancement of Bollywood so just a question how come Love Story 2050 wasn’t a hit? Also many English or Hollywood movies that are good and people love it, but if they were to be made into bollywood movies probably wouldn’t be hits. Here historical movies do great business, but I remember when SRK’s Asoka came out it bombed and I thought it was done very nicely. Hrithik’s Lakshya was great but I remember the critics slamming that movie and it wasn’t as big as I thought it should have been and it was a great movie. It came as a shock to me that Aamir Khan’s movie Fanaa was copied from and English movie and when my husband and I were watching it we were like “what the hell”. I wish I could remember the name of that movie though. However, akki’s Kambakt Ishq people loved but that movie was so hyped up with alot of nonsense in it that isn’t true and show’s a very unrealistic lifestyle here. Unless you have Akshay kumar or Hrithik Roshan’s looks don’t even count on beautiful blondes falling all over you.

  • @kiran
what i said was in very basic tone . check the tone of ur reply i was not preaching or telling you that u say Blue is a good movie i said it did this much business because of following reason, beczo ppl want a change and how is bollywood not related to economy i think u havent read anything abt economy . movies result in consumption i.e. ppl watch it pay taxes that adds to national income . actors pay tax that add to national income and prosperity . how the technical advancement in industry help that u can check out how advancement in any industry help a country.
iam an mba and have better thing to do in life than just watching baywatch .
you are born and raised in canada and US and talking about indian cultural roots . have u ever been to india then u’ll knw what indian culture is exactly all about .
i have been to UK and my brother works in UK , JP morgan, he has been working there for 4 years and i knw one has to work hard . even in india, if u consider private sector we dont get that much holidays but ya more than the ppl in western country, becoz india has ppl with so many religion and every religion is respected here. my maternal uncle is In US but i have never been in touch with him becoz of family rift
movies are always larger than life whether bollywood or hollywood so u cant exactly replicate real life into reel life.
love story 2050 wd have been a better picture had the story been slick and short rather than being 3 hour movie and above that Harman tried to Copy Hrithik and was not that good in emotional scene : the reason movie flopped .i tried to waych it along with family but slept twice like few others watching the movie
Lakshya : brilliantly made movie : i also love watching that movie . i dont knw why it didnt work . i still love that movie.
asoka: i havent seen that movie completely . i found it slow so cant really comment.

historical movies if are entertaining, work . few examples include mughal-e-azam and jodha akbar . unfortunately very few examples.

one more thing girls here in india dont wear clothes like LAra in blue or other actresses in bollywood

atlast i never wanted u to like blue or love every akki movie . i just voiced what i feel and tried to put froth the major reason for ppl moving away from family movies.
i found the tone of ur reply very rude so replied this way becoz when i wrote my previous comments they were friendly and i didnt expect u to backlash like this, so had to give u reply

  • @Punter

No offence taken, what I meant to say was how does the particular content of a movie like the story or the script of the film contribute to the economy. I wasn’t talking in terms of the entertainment industry being an actual industry and contributing to the GDP of any particular nation I know that. I guess I should have been more clear what I meant. Of course I have been to India. Anyways I didn’t mean for my tone to sound harsh, you sound like a nice person so I don’t want to get into a rift with you, but there are a few in here who are hell bent on causing trouble. I hadn’t even watched blue yet and said anything when I got attacked in here. A movie doesn’t necessarily have to have special effects and be technical to be modern. One movie that stands out in my mind that was perfect Hollywood material was Aamir’s Dil Chahta Hai, acting script setting everything was very polished, too bad they didn’t make that into English otherwise it would have been a great movie for the English theatres. Well when I was mentioning clothes I don’t think I said indian girls wear them I said specificely “actresses”, many times the kind of clothes they wear is so unnecessary that it is uneeded but in the last few years I have seen so many movies that have it I can’t help wondering what is happening in India, because alot of Indian guys that come from India to here they just assume that girls here are loose and are going to put out and that’s just not true. So maybe that was so reason for confusion.

    Anyways everything is cool.

  • Kiran: Dil Chata Hai is one of my favourite romantic comedy which I saw 5 or 6 times since it was released….and willl watch it over the years another 10 times..I always wished that everyone in this world would watch this movie.. I still can’t believe that the director of this movie is Farhan Akhtar!! such a brilliant excellent movie which indian ppl must be proud of.. we want these kind of comedy romantic but not cheap comedy like Golmaal and the rest which they must dump them into the trash!

  • To be very honest, I was unable to watch this movie (BLUE) at home.. kept forwarding to wind up the movie.. a really horrible storyline and song sequences…but liked MAMK and ATB due to their simplicity.

Sanju baba and Akki are looking much older than their age..

  • I HAVE MADE 4 COMMENT ON THIS MOVIES & THE PEOPLE WHO POST THEIR COMMENTS, BUT ALL ARE DELETED.

REASONS ARE SIMPLE THE REVIEW WERE FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART & VERY TRUE WHICH THEY COULD NOT DIGEST. HENCE THEY HAVE DONE THIS TO AVOID THE TRUTH TO COME IN THE FACE OF PEOPLE WHO WATCH THE MOVIE.

  • @chirag the reason surely wd hav been ur language ,becoz even fathiya and kiran did not like the movie, they openly said that and their reviews were not deleted . so maintain ur lingo and stop personal attack the main reason for deletion of ur comments . however it dosent matter now as Distributors wd het their money are producers are in profit so u keep saying whateveru want to it will not affect the movie now

  • I don’t remember reading chirag’s comments, but they must have been really bad for them to get deleted. However it wasn’t only me and fathiya who didn’t like the comments, alot of people here didn’t like it so I wonder what chirag wrote that was so bad.

  • Again see the comment & revert what is wrong writter.

2008 : Singh is Kinng – I HAVE ASKED MANY PEOPLE IN MUMBAI BUT THEY HAVE NOT UNDERSTOOD THE LANGUAGE IN THE MOVIE WHICH IS PUNJABI & THE MOVIE WAS REALLY RUBISH & TOTALLY NONSENSE
2009 : Kambakhat Ishq , Blue – 1ST HIT FOR YOU NAUMAN BUT REALLY SPEAKING IT WAS THE BIGGEST SHIT MOVIE OF BOLLYWOOD & BLUE REVIEW IS GIVEN BELOW.

AK IS NEVER NEAR TO SRK, SALMAN OR AAMIR. NAUMAN R U WORKING FOR AK & IF NOT PLEASE DO NOT GIVE SUCH A SICK NUMBERING OF HITS.

BLUE MOVIE CAN BE MADE HIT ONLY AFTER GIVING FAKE REVIEW BY EXPERTS OR SHOWING BIGGEST HIT OF AK IN 2009 ON POSTERS ON THEATER OR TELEVISION.

TAKE A LIVE REVIEW OF EACH PEOPLE COMING OUT OF ANY ONE THEATER & SHOW IT, YOU WILL DELETE MANY MOVIES NAME AFTER THAT.

    GROW UP NAUMAN.

  • Blue is watched by first day third show & the feedback was geniune from my side and you did not liked that comment why did you deleted that you should have defended your sick Akki King who has given 5 backtoback idiotic films.

THIS movie can be made hit only by giving fake report by people like u & u r looting peoples money by showing that it has earned 30cr, 40cr, 100cr on the posters , television , news so that more people go to watch the movie & you can make this movie hit.

    Growup guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the stars were acting in the movie like they were lazy & full of stress on thier faces.

What was Zayeed Khan doing in the movie – useless.

What was lara dutta doing in the movie – the same that se does on the ramp showing her body & not a single strong dialoge for her which made her totally waste.

What was akki acting like – A clown of circus. He was telling Sanjay dutt to help him in getting the treasure like getting anything which was kept in his room. Akki made only the movie loose the grip by telling meaningless jokes. watch Race – Abbas-mastans movie 100 times better than Blue. And the end of the movie was as disaster as 8*10 tasveer.

Sanjay dutt was good but not better than in All the best.

Good luck of Akki – Katrinaji was also wasted.

BIGGEST WEAK POINT WAS THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THE ACTOR & WHICH WAS DUE TO THE RUSTY SCRIPT.

  • @chirag please go and check the balance sheet that will clear ur misunderstanding . becoz all news channels cant be quoting fake business figure . check boxofficeindia.com. add domestic and international figures add satellite rights it will come to more than 90 crores so producers made money and distibutors wd recover their money although wont be able to make much profit . so movie is above avg to hit . u not liking the movie is ur personal choice but business ur outrightly wrong . i noticed ur comments but now i got it why indicine deleted these comments becoz u flooded this site with the same message across various headings . i have seen it myself being there and then deleted seems like sme1 with an agenda to malign AKKI’s reputation but u’ll fail . i can give u in writing. check out the total business nad u’ll get to knw the result . there is no promotion stating 90 crore or 100 crore , its just business figures and is not used for promotion . check ur facts and then come up with such comments

  • I think u might have a temple of Akki in your home.

What ever the amount they have collected in this two week is only becoz of fake publicity, and regarding my comment on two or three sites same as i did in this one is bcoz i had wasted total amount of Rs.300/- for watching this movie.

Punter i think you do not know the fact about the publicity funda this people do, but if you liked the movie then I think you r #$#$(^(*)&$#$#$*^&* I THINK there is no need to explain this ha ha ha ha ha ha

  • AND ONE MORE MR. PUNTER IF U R TALKING ABOUT BALANCE SHEETS THEN U R THE BIGGEST LOOSER & IDIOT, R U ASHTVINAYAK ENTERTAINMENT’S ACCOUNTANT.

U CAN FOOL YOURSELF BUT CAN’T FOOL PEOPLE. TAKE CARE OF YOUR DREAM KING AKKI – BECHARA LOOSER.

  • @chirag : tere comments teri aukaat bata dete hai kaisa third class banda hai tu . main teri tarah gaaliya dene maine aur abusive language me believe nahi karta .nobody is claiming abt movie biz , i said go and check the balance sheet andthen comment . i said all websittes cant be giving fake data .

  • Abe chirag yeh mera aakhiri comment hai tujh jaise fukre ke liye . kya karu tujh jaise fukre ko sophisticated tareeke se jawab dene ka koi fayada nahi .
pehle to tu hasiyio mat kyunki teri bhasha dekh ke pata lagta hai agar tu hasta hoga to log darr ke bhaag jaate honge.
Even Ki crashed in second week then also distributors earned their share so second week me crash hone ka matlab movie flop hona nahi hai . agar yeh website pe likha hai ki it crashed to yeh bhi likha it has done above average business samjha woh padna bhool gaya ya internet pe baith ke AKKI ki buraai karte karte teri aankhein kamzor ho gayi hai .
main MBA in marketing tere jaise fake reviews ko jawaab dene ke liye kiya hai .

  • Just wait movie blue and below is my review

First time i have to admitt tht movie of akshay kumar cannot be so boring then any other

what works /Not work for movie:
1>What works for the movie?????I m still wondering…..No thing is good abt movie!!!!No story No good performance by any actor…Akshay was ok.Sanjay dutt was sleep walk..I though zayed did better.
Actress all are bad…Katrina look so sexy n cute ….lara dutt is nothing in the movie ,Rahul dev as ususual is bad

2>I need to ask the director tht they were promoting the movie saying shark n lot of never seen before action…Where were they..just 2-3 bike scenes ,20 mins underwater seen which was nicely captured but nothing excited

3>Music was not good in the movie eventhough while listening seperate it was nice

4>I donot like anything about movie..first time akshay kumar movie dissapointed in this year after Tasveer…..I was waiting when will movie finish…

Rating:I would give just 1/5 for beautiful katrina,2 bikes sequence and nothing else…

Verdict:It was overhype movie i though….Just cannot understand how such many money is wasted..If they have given it to charity ,it will be helpful….

Biggest dissapointing movie of the year…I totally agree with indicine team…..Eventhough i m akshay fan but cannot digest this movie……Hope his DE DANA DAN will not dissapointed me

ONe FACT:I would surely lose my 150 rs if i have went to see in cinema hall..thank god!!!
