Love it or hate it, but Salman Khan’s Veer is one heck of a brave effort, something we would like to call a “Veeroic” effort.
At a time when comedies rule the roost in Bollywood, Salman Khan and co. opted for something distinctly different. A mixture of history, mythology and nationalism narrated with a fine balance of romance, comedy, action and the age old formulaic masala.
Also, Salman is a writer to watch out for in the future. He has great sense of drama and sets up the movie pretty well. The romantic portions were well-written and the dilemma of the princess – to choose between her kingdom or lover – was potentially a great plot for a thrilling second half, that it didn’t happen is the director and screenplay writer’s fault.
Sure, the film is not without its share of major flaws, but then its the effort we are talking about here, something both the media and critics for some reason have overlooked.
Quick recall, and history based films have always been risky, the mightiest of them have failed (Read SRK with Asoka and Aamir with Mangal Pandey). Spending 50 crores plus makes it even more riskier.
So purely for the risk and effort the makers have taken and the fact that the film has managed to do reasonably well at the box office, Veer deserves a mention as one of the first successful films of the year and the decade.
today i watched ishqiya and rann just shocked coz extremly boring movie and how critics can give 4 star and 3.5 i thing taran was drunk when watching these movies.

hay guys i was just checking Wikipedia their they told that Veer collected 72 cr gross in India till 31.02.10. if we calculate it will be around 42-43cr net. so weekend is around 9-10cr ,which is not at all bad in any circumstances.
as collections are largely 4m single screen so the DS share will be around 23-24cr , which means Veer is a hit movie

Anil Sharma’s VEER may not have done a GADAR, but it has definitely proved beyond doubt the box-office clout of its lead actor Salman Khan, and has re-established him as the darling of the masses. It has also demonstrated that Salman’s last hit WANTED was not a flash in the pan and that his hold over single screens is second to none and his fan base is very much intact.

For those who are unaware, VEER has done extremely well at single screens (it was aimed there, just like WANTED) and its first week business is definitely close on heels of Salman’s last hit. While WANTED netted over 34 crores from India, VEER too has an impressive 33 crores to show from its opening week, despite some bad reviews and poor word of mouth. The lag of a crore or so may be attributed to the fact that WANTED had the advantage of releasing during the festive Eid period.
Not only that, VEER has done almost similar business (though ordinary!) in the Overseas too.

there is still no news abt 2nd weekend of Veer. i dont know what is wrong but BOI mentioned today that it is not up to the standard , and it needs huge amount from multiplex aswell rather than single screne.
Nauman, they have mentioned that VEER has not done good in Multiplexes. But the fact that It was sold to Distributors at minimum gurantee that has been recovered in 1st week itself.
BOI says that DS from Multiplexes are 4.5 crores.
DS from single screen are 15-16 crores.
So, DS from 1 week for VEER is a Very Good 20.5 crores, that good but looks like VEER will end up as ABOVE AVERAGE fair.
@nauman ..I have read dat it is about the 1st week collections of multiplex which are not upto standard.N single screen are enough to earn good collectionz for Veer.Really dun confuse readers.There is no mention of second weekend on BOI n you are telling ahhhh.. multiplex revenue is needed 4 Veer’s success in 2nd week???

Yes, 2mrw Taran will give the Mid Week Report but i don’t trust his view. He Declared Wanted as HIT, Blue as Flop.
I beg to differ Vicky – I don’t think 3 Idiots’ success had anything to do with critics’ reviews. The movie on its own (and / or thru word of mouth) wud hv been a hit without rave reviews. The fact that it was an Aamir starrer, coupled with R. Hirani’s previous records of blockbusters, as well as good promotions are the main reasons for drawing crowds – not forgetting an excellent, realistic story/movie!
Notwithstanding, I think Veer was a good movie – not better than Jodha Akbar – but entertaining enough. I’m just glad that Salman is getting his due – he is a wonderful, charitable and warmhearted person and deserves credit (or payback).

Saw salman khan performing in Star screen award…And interestingly Ash was looking friendly and clapping and having a smile on face….At last when salman finish and gave flying kiss, u have to watch Ash face…Lol very good moment though
