Kick Music Review

Now this is real big!! Music album of the most awaited movie of 2014 till now is out. Even though ‘Kick’ song promos have been released hardly a month before its theatrical release, they are catching like a house on fire. With just over two weeks to go for this mega Eid release carrying tremendous buzz, the makers have finally released the full audio album. The album has multiple catchy attractions that have raised the curiosity levels of one and all. Sample a few mentioned below: Salman Khan has rendered his voice for a romantic song ‘Hangover’ along with Shreya Ghoshal. Song has been composed by Meet Bros. of ‘Baby Doll’ fame. The title track has been composed by none other than rap master ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh’ who is enjoying the peak of his career at the moment. ‘Jumme Ki Raat’ sung by Mika and composed by Himesh Reshammiya is already a chartbuster. Kick is the most ambitious product of the premier production house ‘Nadiadwala Grandson’ as Sajid Nadiadwala is making his directorial debut with it and he is leaving no stones unturned. It will be an understatement to say that expectations have taken a roller coaster ride as we dwell inside this album filled with adrenaline pumping tunes. Jumme Ki Raat: Album kicks off with a song whose title reminds you of the Big B famous song ‘Jumma Chumma’ from the movie ‘Hum’. But this Himesh’s composition is completely in a different space altogether. This foot tapping number starts off with a peppy and instantly catchy tune. Mika is in his complete elements with highly energetic vocals and he is ably supported by Palak Muchhal. Since the movie is an Eid release, expect nothing less than fireworks in theatres when this song will play on the big screen. (3.5/5) Hangover: After their stupendous success of ‘Baby Doll’, Meet Bros. Anjjan have been roped in to compose the romantic track ‘Hangover’. Salman Khan comes behind the mike for the 4th time after ‘Hello Brother’, ‘Chal Mere Bhai’ and ‘Wanted’. His voice fits into the song. Shreya is brilliant as usual. The violin music in the beginning is pleasant to the ears. Lyrics by Kumaar are average. (3/5) Tu Hi Tu: Himesh Reshammiya’s ‘Tu Hi Tu’ is very reminiscent of his earlier soft melodious numbers where vocals and lyrics takes centre stage with minimum soft orchestra. Mohd Irfan has already carved a niche for himself with superhit songs like ‘Phir Mohabbat’(Murder 2), ‘Baarish’(Yaariyan), ‘Dard Dilon Ke’ (Xpose) and ‘Banjaara’ (Ek Villain). Superbly aided by lyrics from Mayur Puri, the track has the potential to grow with time. (3/5) Yaar Naa Miley: ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh’ is the flavor of the season and has proved his talent with hits in movies like ‘Khiladi 786’, ‘Chennai Express’, ‘Boss’, ‘Yaariyan’ etc. But this time surprisingly Punjabi pop singer Jasmine Sandlas steals the show completely. Her rustic voice is perfect for the Punjabi disco beats of the song. This foot tapping classic Punjabi number has the potential to rock the DJ Charts in the days to come. (3.5/5) The surprise package of the album is Salman has rendered his vocals for ‘Jumme Ki Raat’ and ‘Tu Hi Tu’ as well. But after hearing the voices of Mika and Mohd Irfan, Salman’s version pales in comparison. Hangover (MBA Swag) is catchy. Then to fill in the album we have reprise, house mix and remix versions of all the above mentioned songs. Apart from ‘Yaar Naa Miley’, there is a remix version and a ‘Salman’ version of all the 3 songs. Rating: All the 4 main songs have been shot lavishly as the grand sets are visible in the promos. The theatrical trailer became the most liked Bollywood trailer ever in flat 10 days in YouTube. This has generated enough steam for the movie and with foot tapping songs like ‘Jumme Ki Raat’ and ‘Yaar Naa Miley’ the earth-shattering opening at the box office is a foregone conclusion. Salman’s voice in ‘Hangover’ is just an icing on the cake. Songs are not musical gems but tunes are catchy and look good on screen. They go perfectly with the Salman’s dialogue – ‘Itna Mat Sochna, Dil Mein aata hoon, samajh mein nahin’ Devil is all set to run riot this Eid. Music review by Abhishek Sharma (tweets @abhu_sharma)

Best Hindi Songs: July 2013

1. Tum Hi Ho (Aashiqui 2): Songs are coming and going but ‘Tum Hi Ho’ is undettered and unaffected at the numero uno position. The music album of ‘Aashiqui’ composed by Naddem-Shravan in 1990 had been a benchmark of success in the industry and Mithoon,Ankit Tiwary & Jeet Ganguly have successfully managed to live up to this huge challenge. 2. Badtameez Dil (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani): Noone expected the kind of moolah ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ has generated at the ticket window. Pritam’s music has played an important role in the phenomenal success of the movie. Although the movie is now on its way to move out of the theatres, Badtameez Dil is steady and rocking the dance floors everywhere. 3. Tum Tak (Raanjhanaa): Master composer A.R. Rahman’s quality music always takes time to find appreciation. Going with the unexpected success of ‘Raanjhanaa’ at the box-office, the songs are steadily growing up on listeners. A song with a blend of romantic and spiritual elements, ‘Tum Tak’ has been beautifully crooned by Javed Ali. 4. Sawaar Loon (Lootera): Although much-appreciated Lootera failed to set the cash registers ringing at the box-office, the music of the movie especially ‘Sawaar Loon’ is getting universal popularity. Song features a great combination of meaningful lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya, mesmerizing vocals by Monali Thakur and an addictive tune by Amit Trivedi. 5. Jeene Laga Hoon (Ramaiya Vastavaiya): The duo of Sachin-Jigar have composed some noteworthy tracks in F.A.L.T.U , ABCD, Oh.. My God and Go Goa Gone. But ‘Jeene Laga Hoon’ is by far their best and most genuine attempt in the genre of seasonal romantic melodies. Atif Aslam and Shreya Ghoshal are top-notch as they croon mesmerizing vocals together in this track. 6. Zinda (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag): This passionate and inspirational track from ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ has been energetically sung by Shankar Mahadevan’s son Siddharth. Prasoon Joshi’s tough lyrics (e.g. ‘kanchaa toote choora kaanch kar de’) combined with background guitar music make the song very encouraging. 7. Titli (Chennai Express): Here comes the King Khan! Any SRK starrer is incomplete without a love melody and the Vishal-Shekhar duo boast of this uncanny knack of churning out genuine unadulterated melodies. ‘Titli’ has been sung magically by Chinmayi and Gopi and the Tamil chorus reminds of SRK’s ‘Jiya Jale’ from Dil Se. 8. Sun Raha Hai (Aashiqui 2): Even after ruling the charts for past couple of months, the love anthem of the year still finds a place in the list. The magical track is sung by Ankit Tiwary and written by Sandeep Nath. Female version is more of an unplugged kind highlighting the sweetness of Shreya’s deep soothing vocals. 9. Balam Pichkari (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani): Yet another track from ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ that strikes the right chord from the word go! Vocals by Vishal Dadlani and Shalmali Kholgade raise the tempo further. Ranbir and Deepika have given energetic and memorable performance in the song. 10. Ye Tune Kya Kiya (Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara): While YJHD still in the charts, Pritam enters again with his next biggie ‘OUATIMD’. Sung beautifully by Pakistani singer Javed Bashir, ‘Ye Tune Kya Kiya’ grows on the listener on repeated hearings. Dialog writer Rajat Arora has penned some extraordinary lyrics for this song picturized on Akshay Kumar. The last month’s music albums which are out of July’s list include – Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 while three new albums have entered the list – Chennai Express, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Do let us know about your favorite songs of the month in the comments section below.
