Highway Music Review: Yet another winner from Rahman

Highway

Alia Bhatt-Randeep Hooda-starrer “Highway”, a romantic drama directed by Imtiaz Ali, boasts of nine tracks. The songs show Rahman’s efforts at once again creating something enthralling.

Patakha Guddi: It starts on a very soothing note with “Patakha Guddi”. Sung by the Nooran sisters – Sultan and Jyoti – the Sufi number is soulful. The song will make you feel free-spirited.

Maahi Ve: Sung by music maestro Rahman, “Maahi ve” comes next. A love ballad, it has simple yet expressive lyrics mixed with Rahman’s voice. This one will surely give you the chills.

Kahaan Hoon Main: “Kahaan hoon main”, sung by Jonita Gandhi, is a situational track. The touching number might make the listener question about what one is doing and what one really wants to do.

Wanna mash up: The fourth one is “Wanna mash up?” by Kash, Krissy and Suvi Suresh. This one is very urban and will connect with youth. It is not one of those fast tracks but has the ability to grow on the listener.

Sooha Saaha: Next up is Alia and Zeb Bangash’s “Sooha saaha”. A very melodious lullaby, it will remind you of your mother. Alia’s efforts are commendable.

What follows is Rahman’s version of “Patakha Guddi”. The first track and this one are completely different. While the first one is earthy, this one has a Western feel. Though Rahman’s voice creates magic, the effect is not the same.

Implosive silence: “Implosive silence” is next. Crooned by Jonita Gandhi, the song hits the right chord.

Tu Kuja: Sunidhi’s “Tu kuja” is placed eighth and will remind you of “O paalanhare” from “Lagaan”. Though a devotional number, Chauhan’s voice mixed with the music creates a very Western effect.

Heera: “Heera” wraps up the album. The song is comforting and melodious thanks to Shweta Pandit’s voice and wonderful music.

All in all, the songs of “Highway” will take music lovers to a different level – it’s very powerful and magical.

  • Phataka gudi and mahi ve are great. In Soha sa,alia’s part isn’t that good.
In tu kuja, sunidhi could have done a better job.
    My rating- 3.5/5

  • I am also a fan of A R Rahman sir. But i would say he is a little overrated. He won best music award of delhi 6. No doubts, songs were good but there were better nominees also in that year.

  • That’s brilliant Rahman sir is a genius . He is my favourite and Highway is looking brilliant . The trailer is fantastic and Alia Bhatt is looking exceptional . I will definitely watch Highway i am not sure about HTP , Gunday and SKSE . According to me Highway will be the best film of February . Today is my birthday . May god bless all and Indicine .

  • @nipun how dare can you say overated for rahman sir the man who has oscar awards national awards.he is a indias pride.

  • Rahman is back with bang…

@Nipun: he is not overated…he deserves all the appreciation…he still produces good hits in Tamil/Telugu movies…He was not doing that great in bollywood last couple of years..the last blockbuster from him being Rang De Basanti and latest superhits being Ranjanna & JTHJ..

Music of Highway is also good i.e. patakka gudhi & Mahi Ve…it is a superhit…

    Mahi Ve is awsome…

  • @nipun please… Give me a break
Krissh 3’s music was pathetic.. U call srk fans as d blind ones… First watch out wat u r doing… U lost ur sensibility.

  • @indicine:whenever i’m trying to say that some is misusing my username, you aren’t posting my comment. Why this biasedness? ?everyone thinks that the 4th comment is mine, which isn’t true.
