Best Trending films over the weekend: PINK Tops 2016
PINK has shown the best weekend trend for films released in 2016. The film is ahead of other ’word-of-mouth’ films like Neerja and Happy Bhaag Jayegi. The weekend trend list will always be favourable to films that do not feature a ‘bankable’ star in the lead and those that release a normal non-holiday Friday. For example, films like Sultan and FAN released on partial holidays and also featured superstars in the lead, because of which they opened very well and hence the Day 1 to Weekend trend doesn’t fall in the extraordinary category.

AskIndicine: Live Now!
AskIndicine begins right now. Post your questions in the comments section below: Q. When can we expect the trailer for Raaes to release? A. It’s releasing in November this year. Q. How important are actresses for collections in a Khan film? A. Popular female stars like Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Shraddha Kapoor (and others) are not bankable stars on their own (solo films), but they do add tremendous value to commercial films featuring top stars in the industry. Salman’s pairing with Daisy Shah didn’t work and it could well be the pairing that didn’t excite the audience – apart from poor production values and direction. An attractive leading lady attracts the masses, while good performances (Deepika in Chennai Express / Cocktail for example) can also add to the word-of-mouth and help increase the business of films. Q. Is it true that Sanjay Leela Bhansali film Padmavati and Sanjay Dutt Biopic is releasing along with Tiger Zinda Hai A. Padmavati is scheduled to released a week before Tiger Zinda Hai. But unless ‘Tubelight’ fails (which is highly unlikely), it’s impossible to take on Salman Khan given the kind of stardom he commands at the moment. The budget of Padmavati is said to be 175 crore plus, so it remains to be seen what sort of release strategy the makers of the film opt for. If the content is outstanding, it doesn’t really need a favourable weekend – but it doesn’t make sense to suffer the squeeze that the Salman Khan film can put Padmavati under. Basically, every single-screen that releases Hindi films would want to show Tiger Zinda Hai and multiplexes will give it higher number of shows too. Plus the backing of Yash Raj Films and Ali Abbas Zafar as director. Not worth the risk. Q. The makers of Raees haven’t officially published the date of 26th January anywhere, but everyone is saying like have confirmed.. what could he the next best date which is empty for Raees in start of 2017? A. On May 4 this year, Shah Rukh, Ritesh and Farhan released a statement officially announcing that Raees has been shifted from Eid this year to Republic Day next year (Read article). The makers are currently not looking at any other date. Raees is scheduled to arrive on 26 January 2017. Q. Can Rakesh Roshan wrap Krrish 4 in time to release on Christmas 2018. Considering the extent of VFX to be involved in the film. Or did he declare the date just to create hype around the film. A. There is plenty of time to shoot and complete Krrish 4 – more than 2 years and 3 months for Christmas 2018. But it looks like the unexpected announcement was to try and mount pressure on SRK to make him push Raees to a different date. You can’t just be looking at a Krrish Ganapti idol and suddenly announce a film as big as Krrish 4. Q. Why sequels are not working anymore? A. It’s not that sequels or franchise films aren’t working. The content hasn’t been upto the mark. Raaz Reboot had dull promos and the music album was arguably the weakest of the series. Great Grand Masti was leaked more than a week before its theatrical release. Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 was a poor film. Housefull 3 did fairly well, but it wasn’t liked as much as the previous film in the series. Q. What is Hrithik Roshan doing next apart from Kaabil? Is it only Krrish 4 in 2018? He said he has a surprise for fans? Do you have any idea about that? A. Nothing apart from Kaabil. He might do a film that’ll release between Kaabil and Krrish 4. Q. What makes Salman Khan different from other stars? A. He’s one of the few stars in the industry (probably the only star) who keeps the interests of his fans and his audience above everything else. Aamir only signs films that excites him, same with Hrithik. Shah Rukh does varied films – most of those may not even appeal to every section of his huge fanbase – like FAN, which was a film meant for fans, but his die-hard fans in smaller towns did not even come out to watch it in theatres. He also likes to work with directors who he’s comfortable working with (something that has probably changed in the last couple of years). Akshay keeps going, mixing it up and daring to be different – even if it means some of his films like Baby, Special 26, Airlift completely desert his core fan-base at smaller towns. Salman functions differently. He’s been opting for human stories, that are high on both action and emotion – that balance of appealing to the masses as well as the classes is being achieved, which is giving him those huge 300 crore grossers. It also helps that every section of the audience is liking his films – kids, youth, families. Even the senior citizens of the country love his films because they are clean. He doesn’t care about what critics or the so-called intellectuals think. There’s a lot to learn from Salman’s career for younger actors out there, especially someone like Shahid who’s been wasting his talent by working with directors whose films doesn’t interest 95% of the audience. Q. Women-centric films are always content driven, thus falling into niche genre. Do you think if made on big canvas, a commercial women-centric film can work big time in India, like Lara Croft, Hunger games etc ? A. Wasn’t Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira meant to be that film? It had a big director, action for the masses.. it didn’t work. For higher budget ‘female centric’ films, a good initial is important.. or at the very least, there should be signs that the audience is willing to come out for a film that has female star as the only known face. But when even critically acclaimed and multiplex loved films like Piku are maxing out at less than 80 crore, it doesn’t make sense to invest a lot of money. The risk is too high and the chances of success too low. Q. Can MS Dhoni movie cross 150 crore at the box office? If the film is strongly liked by the audience as well as critics? Please answer my question this time at least A. The film will get a solid initial, a 10 crore plus opening looks certain at the moment. But 150 crore is a huge total and for the film to get to that number, it has to find appreciation across the country. Difficult to predict without watching the film. Q. Why you don’t have filmographies of actors like Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Amitabh Bachchan, Jitendra, Dharmendra, Sunny Deol etc. A. We have gathered quite a lot of data from old film magazines, interactions with trade analysts etc but the data of older actors is not complete. We are also working on updating the current filmography of actors with more accurate collections and verdicts. But as long as we stick to official figures, it’s difficult to push it online. It’ll be very controversial too. We are looking at including trade estimates in our box office reports – but the concern is, we can’t be publishing our own figures and then evaluating the accuracy of our FBO. Do post your suggestions, if you have any. Q. What are the total collections and verdicts of Dishoom, Mohenjo Daro, Rustom, Happy Bhaag Jayegi, A Flying Jatt and Akira ? A. Dishoom finished at 70 crore. Above average. Mohenjo Daro 58 crore Disaster. Rustom 127 crore Super Hit. Happy Bhaag Jayegi 28 crore Above Average. A Flying Jatt 37 crore Flop. Akira 27 crore Flop. Q. Is it impossible for a non holiday release to score big at box office? Big means shattering all records ie.. like Bajrangi Bhaijaan or PK. A. In the past, records were achieved without holiday or favourable release period, so there is no reason why a film can’t go on to be the highest grosser of all time if released during a normal weekend. The Jungle Book did nearly 190 crore, it released in April. Tanu Weds Manu Returns did 150 crore. If the sequel of 3 Idiots is releasing bang in the middle of April and it carries the kind of word-of-mouth the previous film did, there is no reason why it can’t do 350 crore plus. A good film that appeals to majority of audience, will always find a way to succeed – irrespective of release date. We’ve got to understand that the big weekends are big, because big actors have made it big with their presence and films. It doesn’t mean any actor can come with any film during Eid and it’s a sure shot blockbuster. There are way too many questions coming in and we can’t possibly give detailed answers to most of them.. so shorter answers from now on. Q. Since Bahubali: The Conclusion is releasing on a non holiday what are your expectations for the opening day? A. Hindi version could well be 20 crore plus. Q. Which directors have the highest success ratio? Can you name them along with their successful films? A. There are a lot of directors who have nearly 100% success ratio – Rajkumar Hirani, Rakesh Roshan in the last 15 years, Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra, Kabir Khan.. just to name a few. Q. Any news about when the teaser or trailer of Dangal is releasing ? A. Trailer will be out next month. Q. If Raees and Kaabil clashes which film will take the good initial considering genre and starcast of both films. What is your opinion before revealing the trailer of both movies. A. All factors balanced out, Shah Rukh Khan is still the bigger star.. so his films should quite easily take the bigger opening. But a lot can change after the trailer, songs and eventually the content. Star power alone can’t win a clash, content takes over Day 2 onwards. Q. How would you rate the marketing strategy of Befikre? A. Poor, they have started way too early. Q. Is the reason for lack of good horror films from Bollywood the reason why the Kanchana films have found such a huge response on Television? Not just for horror films, does this also apply for hindi dubbed action masala films from South(Main Hoon Lucky the racer, Fighterman Singham, etc)? A. Kanchana 2 did well at the Tamil box office too. It’s not just horror, but a mixture of many genres, massy and entertaining for a lot of people. These are the kind of films that do well on television. Q. Why do films like Airlift, Neerja and Kapoor and Sons get such a lukewarm response on Television? A. It’s too boring for the television audience and the appeal is limited to metro cities. Q. How much screens AA Films targeting for Raees ? A. It’s way too early to talk about screens. Long way to go. Q. Shahrukh Khan next film ‘The Ring’ should release on Eid 2018. I know Eid belongs to Salman but he has no release on Eid 2018. His film Tiger Zinda Hai release on Xmas 2017 so, he had enough time to complete one film in span of five months. 2017-18 is like a year of 2012-13 when salman had no release on Eidid 2013 Shahrukh came and shatter all records. So, Shahrukh had best chance to release his film The Ring on Eid 2018. What do you think. A. Eid 2018 is too far ahead, Imtiaz – SRK film will be ready for release in the second half of 2017. They were first looking at Independence Day weekend and then Dussera release (September 29). Both dates are now taken by Crack and Judwaa 2. There aren’t too many dates left in 2017, else it’ll be a clash. Q. Is Kaabil a low budget film i.e around or below 50 crore as it have Roshans as producers and shot in Mumbai ? A. It’s not a low budget film. Wait for the trailer. Q. What are the response to 2 song promos of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil so far? A. Positive. The songs have done very well, the visuals not so much. Q. Who is more popular among masses… Ajay or Akshay? A. Akshay Q. Do you think Airlift can win awards like Filmfare or National award? A. It may not even get a nomination, like Baby last year. Q. Top actresses presently based upon their acting talent and box office? A. Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma. Q. If a movie gets record views on you tube how the producers are getting benefitted from that. Do they have any profit sharing ratio? A. The revenue from the advertisement that you see before and during the videos, is shared between the publisher of the video and YouTube (Google). Q. Do you think the tittle of a movie can make a difference in collection? A. It can. The working title of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was Running with the bulls. If that title was retained, the impact wouldn’t have been as much as the Hindi title. Same with SRK-Imtiaz film ‘The Ring’. It’ll be changed. Aamir once said every Hindi films should have a Hindi title, it increases ticket sales at smaller centres. Q. What are the Top 5 highest grossing movies of Ajay Devgn? A. Singham Returns, Golmaal 3, Bol Bachchan, Son Of Sardaar, Singham. That’s the end of today’s QnA. 30 questions were answered today, thank you for joining us.

The film starring Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri and Lisa Hayden, has recorded 78.16 lakh impressions. Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan continued to attract television audience across the country last week, as the film which is repeatedly aired on Star Gold attracted nearly 39 lakh viewers.
Pink Friday Box Office Collections and Saturday Update
PINK had a slow start on Friday morning, but occupancy at metro cities picked up quite significantly as the day progressed – which is always a positive sign that the reports are good and the film is finding appreciation. The upward trend continued on Saturday morning and noon as occupancy at almost every centre that we tracked was higher than Friday. Night shows are expected to be huge as such films tend to peak on Saturday late-evening / night.
Raaz Reboot Reviews by Critics
Raaz Reboot has been trashed by the critics – which is expected because it’s not the kind of film that you expect critics to like. Except one review, critics have unanimously rejected Raaz Reboot. It’s the first film this year to score an average of less than 2 stars. [mks_button size=”medium” title=”Average Rating of All ‘Raaz Reboot’ Review – 1.7 stars” style=”rounded” bg_color=”#1e73be” txt_color=”#FFFFFF” icon=”” icon_type=””] Raaz Reboot Review by Indicine Rating: The movie which was supposed to kick-start the Raaz franchise is looking more and more like the death nail to the franchise. The spooky moments are few and far between, and even the ones which are there aren’t quite as impactful because the effects are stereotypical and the Vfx is downright insulting to the audience. They should have spent more time on rendering the Vfx. Ignoring all that, Raaz Reboot doesn’t work as a film either because the narrative is too slow and the pacing too uneven. Raaz Reboot Review by Bollywood Hungama Rating: When RAAZ REBOOT’s trailers got released, it definitely upped the curiosity factor amongst the audiences. And the film does not disappoint. Even though RAAZ REBOOT’s screenplay (Vikram Bhatt) gets into the cliched space at times, it is definitely tight and gripping. It successfully manages to keep the audiences engaged and hooked to the film till the end. And it is purely because of this that the attention of the audience refrains from dwindling till the end. The film’s narrative is simple and lucid. The film does have a handful of memorable and hard hitting dialogues (Girish Dhamija), mostly in the second half. Raaz Reboot Review by Sreeju Sudhakaran on Bollywood Life Rating: The film has one very decent twist post interval that saves the film from being an absolute mess. I am not going to reveal that to you, but it could surprise people who have certain expectations about the film and its protagonists. Raaz Reboot is one such rare Bollywood film where the second half is better than the first half of the film, but that doesn’t stop the film from touching mediocrity at places. There are a couple of engaging sequences here that will mildly pique your interest. But it will also make you doubt whether it is too late to save the film by then, also leaving a lot of questions in the wake. Amidst the performers, Gaurav Arora is actually the best amongst the lot, speaking a lot through his eyes. Despite having nothing much to do in the first half, Emraan Hashmi gets to score in a few scenes in the second half, especially in the confrontation scenes with Gaurav. Raaz Reboot Review by Shubhra Gupta on Indian Express Rating: Suck on that, all ye who propagate the use of garlic buds and crosses to defeat blood-sucking vampires. Whether is ‘des’ or ‘vides’, no ‘buri aatmaa’ or plain vanilla ‘bhoots’ can stand up against the might of the ‘mangalsutra’. Or, we must hasten to add, a plaintive ‘sufi’ song. One is enough. Both together can chase anything away from anywhere, including the poor chumps who have paid to be scared. Raaz Reboot Review by Rohit Vats on Hindustan Times Rating: Meanwhile, you will keep spotting Hotel Transylvania, a Gypsy woman and other clichés, so that you don’t feel out of sync. Don’t forget it’s a Vikram Bhatt film. The cleric’s failed exorcism bid means God’s reputation is at stake and that calls for some extreme measures. The rest is a permutation and combination of words – ‘spirit’, ‘possessed’, ‘danger’, ‘haunted’ and ‘Jesus’. Soulful music will soothe your ears, and Emraan Hashmi is also there. Some initial scenes of arguments between Rehaan and Shaina are well written, but that’s about it. Review by Tatsam Mukherjee on India Today Rating: To be honest, Raaz Reboot is not a boring film. It is so unintentionally hilarious that they might as well have marketed this as India’s first ‘unintentionally-hilarious-horror-comedy with violins and sex’. The music of the movie is scored by Jeet Ganguly, who churns out melodies to justify his monthly paycheck from Vishesh Films. Same old Arijit Singh wailing in the recording studio and the same old melodies. Review by Manisha Lakhe on Nowrunning Rating: Emran Hashmi must have has a whale of a time in this film. He is Aditya again. This time a Creative Director, photographer who has had a passionate affair with Shanaya (rehashed… I mean ‘Rebooted’ character), and just like Prithvi who drew slashed wrists pictures, this time he dreams vivid dreams…By the time the music has lulled you into thinking you have heard these tunes before, thankfully spirits have emerged from the possessed girl in a black smoke and crashed into the windows and it is daylight again (the ushers in the theater have opened the ‘exit’ doors for you). It’s a relief from this terribly rehashed story. Review by Jaidev Hemmady on Movietalkies Rating: As for the thrill factor, Raaz Reboot uses every possible formula used in thousands of horror films in the past- creaking doors, a sinister raven, a possessed person who can climb walls and levitate et al. Indeed, it is time Bollywood filmmakers realized that they need to move beyond this if they ever hope to scare viewers (maybe they could go watch Radhika Aptestarrer Phobia to know how to send a shiver up everyone’s spines). If that was not all, the amateurish CGI effects are so laughable that there is no chance of being afraid of anything that the film throws at you. When I heard that the film has been set in Transylvania, I had hoped against hope for a story flirting with the legend of Dracula, but alas! It all boils down to old-fashioned revenge and predictable twists and turns. The music is totally forgettable and except for Hashmi’s ‘bad boy’ charm, there is nothing really worth watching in the film. Review by Namrata Thakker on Rediff Rating: Raaz Reboot is full cliches and will remind of you of a few horror movies in both Bollywood and Hollywood. Kriti Kharbanda, who makes her Bollywood debut with this film, is strictly okay. Since most of the film is riding on her, it’s sad that she doesn’t take advantage of it and gives a not-so-great performance. Gaurav Arora is surprisingly good but his character doesn’t have much to do. Emraan Hashmi arrives just before the interval and though he has quite a few good scenes, it’s not enough to make up for the loopholes. Though the Bhatt movies have always had melodious music, this one doesn’t match up. Most of the songs aren’t needed but are still there, making the viewing experience worse. Also, the spirit for some reason keeps using the F-word, which gets quite annoying. Review by Meeta on Wogma Rating: Fortunately, the performances are above what we have come to expect from films in this genre from this production house. Now, Kriti Kharbanda and Gaurav Arora have a lot of chemistry-free, flat moments. But, individually, they do well to scare and be scared. I enjoyed Emraan Hashmi’s performance too. He keeps you guessing to the best of his capabilities. That he is let down by the writing department is another story. I was engaged more than I expected to be. I had inadvertently tight muscles till the culprit was obvious. But then again, I scare easily. If you want to be spooked but not too seriously, you could just skim through this one when there’s nothing else on TV. Review by Rohit Bhatnagar on Deccan Chronicle Rating: Directed by Vikram Bhatt, ‘Raaz Reboot’ makes use of all the clichés to scare the audience and hence falls flat towards the end. The 2001 release ‘Raaz’, which was directed by Vikram Bhatt, was a sincere effort at making a ‘horror flick’ and was able to send a chill down the spine. But like every other sequel, this one also disappoints. ‘Raaz Reboot’ will make you remember how many of our horror films were made in the past with its black crows, hidden pasts, stale love triangles. Run-of-the-mill dialogues by Girish Dhamija are woven with boring love scenes. The film’s ‘chill factor’ rests on the shoulders of an ugly ghost, who tries hard to scare the audience, but leaves everyone disappointed instead. The facial expressions of the ghost tend to have the opposite effect on the audience and unintentionally bring out more laughs than screams. I guess we can never match the standards of Hollywood demons on screen, be it the background or VFX. Review by Renuka Vyavahare on The Times Of India Rating: Doors keep slamming on their own, strange whispers keep echoing throughout and the girl sees horrific things but none of it disturbs you, let alone be worried. Also since it’s a reboot, a twist in the tale is guaranteed. You can see it from a mile away, something our ‘clever’ heroine fails to gauge till the end. The dialogues and overall sensibility are equally cheesy. The film implies that ‘Pyaar hi Bhagwan hai’ and that Mangal sutra can act as a suraksha kavach for a woman. There’s also a blind man who knows ‘psychometry’ – the power of touching things, feeling them and understanding their energy. “Two mouths! She has been possessed by an evil spirit,” he screams in disbelief as he studies Shaina’s mug. Tsk tsk. Review by IANS on Zeenews Rating: The performances of the cast too are perfunctory. Gaurav Arora and Kriti Karbanda are un-relatable as the couple Rehaan and Shaina. Their characters lack the chemistry and their ordeal, panic and grief all seem forced. Nevertheless, Kriti shows promise. Apart from the oomph factor, her transformation into a feral woman with frenzied energy, is worth a mention. Emraan Hashmi as Aditya, Shaina’s past and the antagonist of the tale, walks through his performance. The rest of the cast which include Amar and Shreya – the couple’s friends, Trilok – the blind psychometrist, the clairvoyant and the priest, have their moments of on screen glory. The music, along with the background score, too is passable. With moderate production values, the film is well-mounted. Manoj Soni’s cinematography is worth a mention. He captures the scenic locales in all their glory. And his frames seamlessly merge with the computer generated effects. Overall, “Raaz Reboot” is mediocre fare and may appeal only to fans of the “Raaz” franchise. Review by Sameeksha on News18 Rating: Raaz Reboot has nothing new to offer, even the old offerings have been executed badly. The entire setup in Romania, Dracula’s own country, could’ve been exploited more but the makers didn’t even cash in the scenic beauty of the place. The music is the only average thing in this poorly made film. The lazy installment of Raaz franchise does not deserve your time. Looks like the makers lost their own spirit while making the film and ended up making one of the most boring films of the year. Now Bhatts should understand that time has come to get out of past and make films with more vigour, vision and new story. Review by Mayank Shekhar on Mid-Day India Rating: This one, of course, is the fourth installment of Raaz. It’s called Reboot, I’m told, because of some copyright issues. Besides a couple of ‘Raazes’, one loses count of how many such pictures Vikram Bhatt has filmed in the past — Intehaa, Aetbaar, 1920, Shapit, Haunted etc. etc. Sure, it’s predictable stuff. But that’s to do with the genre, which like mindless comedy, is fairly easy to judge or appreciate. There is a meter ticking inside your head that registers how many times you’ve felt fear inside the dark hall. That’s pretty much it. And I’m sorry, I felt nothing. To be fair (up until a fine climax), they don’t try too hard to scare us much either. Review by Kunal Guha on Mumbai Mirror Rating: Gaurav Arora perseveres to lend dignity to his perplexed Rehaan but his character’s lazily-written lines take away from his performance. For the record, Rehaan’s sexual abstinence remains a raaz even after the film ends. One would imagine that Emraan Hashmi has carved his own niche by now. But his home production stretches his part beyond tolerance and dunks his oversized wig in sewage to undo his worth by at least ten years. The perennially wailing debutante, Kriti Kharbanda had the worst deal. Her possessed character is made to wolf down crunchy cockroaches, bend over backwards and lie in a pool of her own mucky drool. Luckily, her OTT makeup eclipses her face and she can make her debut again. If Vikram Bhatt fancies himself as a weaver of stories, he’s gone over the hemline of logic here. Leaning on tested techniques of evoking fear, the eventual jolt never lives up to the build-up. Review by Vishal Verma on Glamsham Rating: The actors didn’t get good support from the script but do their job with honesty. Emraan Hashmi is decent. Rehan impresses and Kirti Kharbanda makes an attempt. RAAZ REBOOT continues Vikram Bhatt’s obsession to the ‘possessed’ movies from the west, mansion, church, old town, good spirit, bad spirit everything happens. Raaz Reboot Review by Indiaglitz Rating: It’s a bland film with forced scenes, language and nudity.Gaurav Arora tries hard to carry the film on his young shoulders but mostly fails. Emraan Hashmi is strictly average in the movie, though you will like his make-up in the finale portions. The makers could have made a much better film only if they would had added more depth and detailing to Emraan’s character. ‘Raaz: Reboot’ is nothing but rehash of all the old horror films Vikram and his team have made. The saddest part is that the horror quotient is not even one fourth of what we had seen in his earlier films. Review by Subhash K Jha on Bollyspice Rating: Unfortunately Emraan doesn’t allow himself to be as freed of inhibitions as the character affords. His role and performance have one foot caught in the door even as soul pines to soar. Gaurav Arora and Kriti Kharbanda grappling with a marriage that seems to be going wrong even as a ghost makes an unwanted entry in their lines, put up a brave show. Both are made to perform scenes that make them look sordid and messed up on screen. Raaz Reboot Day 1 (Friday) Box Office Collections
Raaz Reboot has collected Rs 6.31 crore on its opening day at the box office, as per official figures released by T-Series.
