Most successful Bollywood Actors: 2010 – 2015

Following up on yesterday’s ‘Most Successful Actors between 2000 and 2009‘, we have the list of actors that were most successful in the current decade. 2016 releases haven’t been included while calculating the figures because a lot of big stars like Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan, Varun Dhawan and Ranveer Singh haven’t had a release so far this year.

The analysis does have quite a few surprises! Read on..

Most number of films between 2010 – 2015:

  • Ajay Devgn – 59.6 crore
  • Arjun Kapoor - 54.8 crore
  • Emraan Hashmi – 39.7 crore
  • Shahid Kapoor – 33.4 crore

Success Ratio i.e Above Average or better  (probably the most important, because it’s the percentage of films that recovered investment)

  • Shah Rukh Khan - 100%
  • Varun Dhawan – 100%
  • Salman Khan – 90%
  • Aamir Khan – 75%
  • Hrithik Roshan – 67%
  • Ranbir Kapoor – 50%
  • Arjun Kapoor – 50%
  • Sidharth Malhotra – 50%
  • Ranveer Singh - 50%
  • Akshay Kumar – 48%
  • Ajay Devgn – 44%
  • Emraan Hashmi – 43%

Hit Ratio i.e Hit or better

  • Shah Rukh Khan – 86%
  • Varun Dhawan – 83%
  • Salman Khan – 80%
  • Hrithik Roshan – 67%
  • Aamir Khan – 50%
  • Ranbir Kapoor – 50%
  • Arjun Kapoor – 50%
  • Sidharth Malhotra – 50%
  • Ranveer Singh - 50%
  • Ajay Devgn – 39%
  • Emraan Hashmi - 36%
  • Akshay Kumar – 33%
  • Shahid Kapoor – 20%

Blockbuster Ratio (this was worth pointing out, simply because the difference between actors is huge!)

  • Salman Khan – 70%
  • Aamir Khan – 50%
  • Ranbir Kapoor – 25%
  • Hrithik Roshan – 17%
  • Shah Rukh Khan – 14%
  • Emraan Hashmi – 14%
  • Ajay Devgn – 11%
  • Akshay Kumar – 5%

In conclusion, it’s quite clear that the decade so far has belonged to Salman Khan. Veer had to be included in the list because it released after 2010 and that hurt his success ratio. Apart from that, Jai Ho missed out on a ‘hit’ verdict. Those two films aside, he hasn’t put a foot wrong. Salman has a 70% blockbuster ratio i.e 7 out of his 10 films were blockbusters or better. This record, in itself, is better than every other stat that we’ve mentioned and we had to include it simply because no other actor has probably achieved it before. It’s hard to describe how huge it is, because his blockbuster count is almost the same as all other actors combined! His 10 films have also collected about 200 crore more than Akshay Kumar’s 21 films!

Shah Rukh Khan is the biggest surprise here. Between 2010 and 2015, he hasn’t had a film that has been completely rejected. No film has failed to cross the 200 crore worldwide mark either (of course, Fan hasn’t, but that film was this year). He and Varun Dhawan are the only actors with a 100% success ratio. Shah Rukh’s hit ratio is the highest too, not too bad for a man who’s supposedly going through a career low?! It’ll be interesting to see how the next 5 years pan out for him.

Aamir Khan missed out with Dhobi Ghat and Talaash, but hit the ball out of the park with Dhoom 3 and PK. He does very few films, but those few have worked big. Ajay Devgn’s box office performance was much improved as compared to the previous decade, quite a few of his films have done well.

Hrithik has been consistent, good success ratio, great average per film.. Kites and Guzaarish were his big failures. He needs to up the ante a bit and do more films.

Akshay Kumar tops the ‘number of films’ list once again, he’s easily been the most prolific. His average, which was in the mid-70s until the end of 2015, has also improved with his two releases in 2016. His choice of films is making a difference at the ticket window.

The younger stars like Varun, Arjun, Sidharth, Ranbir and Ranveer have had great starts to their career. Their success ratio is very high compared to the first few years of actors who made their debuts in the 90s. It shows that they take each of their films very seriously. Special mention for Varun, he’s been terrific. The very fact that a film like ‘Dilwale’ has been his biggest box office disappointment, says a lot about his career so far. ‘Dishoom’ will be a test.

Emraan hasn’t had a bad decade, he was doing well in the beginning, but has faltered in the last 3-4 years. Shahid has been very poor, way too many failures against his name.

  • Flopkumar is a joke

neither he can giv a 600cr movie nor he can win a national award

    just hanging around! Thats it!

  • 2016 : Mohenjo Daro
    2017: Kaabil and Thug
    2018: Kabir Khans Next
Currently, Hrithik has best line up of movies among all stars.
Surely he going to Dominate B-Town in Coming Years.
    Good Luck Greek God

  • can you do top 10 highest grossing films with inflation adjusted, that will tell the real truth about the biggest blockbusters of Bollywood. Think about it

  • When you look at average net collections, there is a big gap after top 4 superstars (Aamir, Salman, SRK, Hrithik) and rest. These 4 are also the only ones who can guarantee big opening with commercial movies. But, the success ratio is probably the most important stat here, and they dominate in that area, too. All of them have good lineup to get even further ahead of competition with movies like Dangal, Sultan, Tubelight, Raees, Imtiaz’s next, Aditya’s next, MohenjoDaro, Kaabil, Thug etc. Varun has had a good career so far, Ranveer is rising high, and Ranbir has potential to get ahead of his competition and reclaim his position as ‘Next Superstar’. He just needs 1 or 2 big hits. ADHM could be that film, although it will face tough competition from Ajay’s biggest film till date, Shivaay.

  • Solid article…there is something good for everyone ..very well balanced but I think dhobi ghat should not be included in this list for Aamir Khan…it is not included while calculating the top actors article so it should not be over here also…Also,i don’t think Shahrukh Khan is going through a bad phase..just because he is not no.1,a spot which he held for the longest time amongst his contemporaries, dosent indicate he is having a bad phase..just two underperformers don’t make much a difference..if Raees also underperforms then there will be worrying signs for him…next year he will be having three releases so it’s kind of make or break situation…
Rest everything about the article is fine..every line for salman Khan seems to be true..u have to give the credit to him which he truly deserves.. apart from Veer and jai ho, every film of his has managed a humongous opening at the box office…sultan should probably be amongst his biggest ever..all the best…

  • Amir salman at top..S
    Srk 2nd

    Hrithik 3rd
    Akshay 4th
    ranbir 5th..
    Ranveer 6th…
    Varun 7th..
    Ajay 8th..
    Sidhrth 9th..
    Emran 10th.

These r on basis of above stats!

  • I really didn’t expect such a dumb article by indicine after a really nice article of yesterday…just to uplift ur favorite u r adding art / cameo films of other actors..shame

  • This decade – Aamir’s last 5 films > last 5 films of salman & last 10 films of Srk..even in OS Aamir’s last 5 > last 5 of Srk in domestic…

  • Budget of Varun Dhawan’s movies are 30 crore. If it earns 60 crore it will be superhit.
He is not doing Shuddhi becoz he knows if he does mega budget movie , it will suffer big time which effects his success ratio. look at Ranveer singh ( 2 big budget movie ). Both were very successful . Dunt compare Varun Dhawan with Ranbir and Ranveer. Varun Dhawan is next non actor ( Salman Khan ) who does movies for Box office .
Neither They can act nor they can do acting oriented movies.

  • @haters this is srk for you in his low phase of carrer his success and hit ratio are 100% now that called a stardom

  • So its clear.. too much talk of akshay n his multiple films.. whats the point if he cant give profits on investments.. m no akki hater infact m a fan of his since his khiladi series but facts r facts.. the top 4 r the ones on which i would put my money on.. not dead investments with akki.. being a fan is a different thing! But truth is..
52% of his films have been in the minus.. losses.. that is 11 out of his 21 films.. n only 6 have been successes n that too little profits.. tbe only film that made good profits on investment is airlift.. only 1 film out of 21 in which industry made some satisfactory money!!
So on average if we count 10 cr loss for every minus film n 10 cr profit for every plus hit film n 50 cr profit on his solo blockbuster film.. the total wld be:
    60 – 110 + 50 = 0 rs..!!
Wow the amount of money invested = the amount of money recovered!! .. in 5 years!!
That is surely not what can be calked successful business!!

  • @indicine
You should have included the Blockbuster ratio yesterday as well!
But how come Ranveer Singh BB ratio is 16%?? I mean none of his movies have been Blockbuster! Bajirao Mastani was a Super Hit! no?

  • The amount of money invested on salman’s 10 films.. average 100 cr per film.. 1000 crs.. nett collections.. 1676..
Profit of 676 crs at box office!!
The amount invested in akshay’s 21 films.. even if we count 75 cr on average it sums upto more than 1500 cr.. nett collections 1475.. so no profits at all!!
Doesnt matter how many films a year akki does, no profits means he is average n huge profits means salman is blockbuster!!
No comparison from now on untill he starts giving atleast 50 cr profits per every film!!

  • with Ra one n Dilwale featuring in 2010-2105 list of srk and u still say srk success is 100%. a move like Raone made on a budget of 110 crore n collection less than 120 cr and u term it as a hit. great where as jai ho made on a budget of 70-80 cr collects 120 cr odd n u term it as average. where as dilwale was a washout in india.

  • Lol…?did I see Akki and Shahid last 2 in HIT department??

    Blockbuster…did I see Akki last? ??

So based on your last conclusion paragraph…

    Salman 1st Paragraph
    Srk 2nd Paragraph
    Aamir/Ajay 3rd paragraph
    Hrithik 4th paragraph
    ……….. 5th paragraph
    The rest 6th…

    That’s better……

    90s please…please!!

  • Best article by indicine…tells everyone who is the king…Srk
100% success ratio even when he is going through career low…

  • 1st commercial actor ever in history of Bollywood to work in Parallel Cinema…

    Ajay Devgn !!!

With Shivaay…He will prove doubters wrong…

  • WOW @INDICINE WOW
When I said 10 Blockbusters ???Hadd hoti hai yaar.
I said 8 Blockbusters & i will correct it now and they are 7
so, since 2010 Salman Khan’s Blockbusters (7) = Blockbusters of All others 11 or 12 mentioned above (7).
