It was exactly a month ago on this day that Yash Raj Films’ opened its gates for Shah Rukh Khan fans. The trailer of film was launched with much fanfare and the response was positive too.
But with two weeks to go for the theatrical release of FAN, the makers of the film are struggling to sustain the buzz. The interest level around the film has dipped quite considerably in the last few days and the film is now almost entirely dependent on Shah Rukh Khan’s star power to give it a good initial on April 15.
The promos on television are also getting repetitive with each passing day. The lack of songs and variety in promos is hurting the pre-release campaign of the film. The makers do not have units to shuffle, the ‘Jabra’ fan anthem has released in different versions, but the visuals of the song and the tune are the same.
It’s now time for YRF to release a few dialogue promos and interesting bits from the film to generate curiosity. It’ll be interesting to see what YRF and SRK have planned for the next 15 days, leading up to the big release of the film.
What’s generating interest:
- Shah Rukh Khan: The film is all about him, his larger than life persona and the fan-following that he commands. And that fan-following will be put to test on April 15. It’ll be SRK’s name that will have to sell tickets on the Friday of release, before the word-of-mouth comes into play.
- Theatrical trailer: The trailer had generated quite a bit of interest around the film.
What’s stopping the film:
- Lack of variety in promos: The Jabra song was released 45 days ago and the trailer was launched 30 days ago. Since then, there hasn’t been anything to sustain the interest level of the audience.
- Limited appeal: Fan isn’t a very commercial film, it doesn’t have a popular female lady, nor does it have too many song and dance numbers. This will restrict the business of FAN at smaller centres.
- Non SRK fans: Die-hard fans don’t care about trailers or songs. Presence of their favourite star is reason enough to purchase a ticket on Friday morning. But will the general audience want to watch a film that celebrates SRK? That’s the big question, because the audience are well aware of the fact that Shah Rukh has Raees lined up for release, less than 3 months after FAN.
The opening day of FAN is currently trending at Rs 19.2 crore on IndicineFBO for Day 1 at the box office.

Dilwale had each and every factor in its favor (SRK+ Kajol + Rohit + Varun + Kriti + block buster music). Had the content been there it would have created some amazing records. In Fan it is only and only SRK and the “expectations of content in the movie” which may be huge for us SRK fans but from a neutral person point of view cant say the two movies have the same buzz.
Dont get carried away by the taunts of SRK haters and hope u understand the limitations of a movie like Fan.
Anything above 19 cr shall be considered superb in Fans case.
The more important thing for is how good the movie does 1st 3 days and then Monday. After that even 140-160 is very okay. He still has a commercial movie with buzz all round and clashing with Salman again that’s when pre release the buzz promos will be on par. The better content movies grosses more but one thing is (k) constant /sure bunker… Both are going to.gross huge numbers…
Fan Srk already said don’t expect a blockbuster (could be diplomatic statement) but he knows why he said it…He ain’t gonna make that comment pre Raees release.
I also agree his name alone will gather crowds.. How long d crowds will troop in the cinema that I don’t know but if the movie clicks well amongst the mass…expect any kind of suprises.
Why srk bhai does promote only his banner’s movie,like dilwale,Chennai,or happy new year.
the problem with fan is the whole story was given away in the promo.. n expect for jabra anthem they have nothing to show.. no dialogue promos n srk consistently calling it a niche film shows srk nor yrf has confidence in the film.. it is showing very evidently.. first half will show the fan gaurav celebrating his icon Aryan khanna.. second half he turns his hater n an abrupt ending.. there is nothing beyond that.. very weak storyline

YRF were right in launching everything 1.5 months ahead of the release (trailer & anthem).
As soon as March started, T20 World Cup started. With the way Kohli and India are hogging the limelight, FAN or any other film were very very difficult to create a buzz as India is bandwagon society who need to be spoonfed everything.
FAN needed to create crazy buzz. It fully succeeded in February. Everyone in India knows, FAN is releasing on April 15 right after India wins T20 WC!
Celebrate the fandom with watching FAN!.
I expect first 3 days of April 15, 16, 17 to easily cross 65+crores! as the content looks very good.
