Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN struggles to sustain pre-release buzz

It was exactly a month ago on this day that Yash Raj Films’ opened its gates for Shah Rukh Khan fans. The trailer of film was launched with much fanfare and the response was positive too.

But with two weeks to go for the theatrical release of FAN, the makers of the film are struggling to sustain the buzz. The interest level around the film has dipped quite considerably in the last few days and the film is now almost entirely dependent on Shah Rukh Khan’s star power to give it a good initial on April 15.

The promos on television are also getting repetitive with each passing day. The lack of songs and variety in promos is hurting the pre-release campaign of the film. The makers do not have units to shuffle, the ‘Jabra’ fan anthem has released in different versions, but the visuals of the song and the tune are the same.

It’s now time for YRF to release a few dialogue promos and interesting bits from the film to generate curiosity. It’ll be interesting to see what YRF and SRK have planned for the next 15 days, leading up to the big release of the film.

What’s generating interest:

  • Shah Rukh Khan: The film is all about him, his larger than life persona and the fan-following that he commands. And that fan-following will be put to test on April 15. It’ll be SRK’s name that will have to sell tickets on the Friday of release, before the word-of-mouth comes into play.
  • Theatrical trailer: The trailer had generated quite a bit of interest around the film.

What’s stopping the film:

  • Lack of variety in promos: The Jabra song was released 45 days ago and the trailer was launched 30 days ago. Since then, there hasn’t been anything to sustain the interest level of the audience.
  • Limited appeal: Fan isn’t a very commercial film, it doesn’t have a popular female lady, nor does it have too many song and dance numbers. This will restrict the business of FAN at smaller centres.
  • Non SRK fans: Die-hard fans don’t care about trailers or songs. Presence of their favourite star is reason enough to purchase a ticket on Friday morning. But will the general audience want to watch a film that celebrates SRK? That’s the big question, because the audience are well aware of the fact that Shah Rukh has Raees lined up for release, less than 3 months after FAN.

The opening day of FAN is currently trending at Rs 19.2 crore on IndicineFBO for Day 1 at the box office.

  • @xzone : You asked for it and I gave it back !!!! Simple. And whatever I listed are nothing but facts, whether you call it research or half baked job. I would do anything to defend Salman but always with facts. It is also a fact that since MNIK, SRK never released a single movie on non holiday however I do agree comparing a 2010 movie with 2014 is not right thing but unless you or many SRK fans move on from 2006 and Jaaneman days Bhai fans are not letting go 2010 and MNIK. It is high time and better for both camps to move on and judge both actors as per current standings !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ the phenom : u cant blame joe the biggest coward. He is ashamed to call himself a fan of a non actor. So he is hiding behind SRK name. By the way U have given him a very good name Joe the Lallulian. This guy is the biggest loser, coward and hypocrite i have seen at this site Indicine.

  • @hrithik, yaar tu kisse bahes kar raha hai? Srk fans se? No matter what, they wont understand a single thing as they clearly lack beain. Its worst to argue with srk fans. They will always live in 1990s, 2000s as for them its easy and very free to remember those past years instead of buying burnol. All they would blabber is, aamir is decade flop star of 1990s and salman is decade flop star of 2000s. Thats the only thing they have left to argue on. They dont even have guts to look at the present reality. Dnt waste your time arguing with such losers who always live in their own delusion world of ifs and buts and past…!
