It was exactly a month ago on this day that Yash Raj Films’ opened its gates for Shah Rukh Khan fans. The trailer of film was launched with much fanfare and the response was positive too.
But with two weeks to go for the theatrical release of FAN, the makers of the film are struggling to sustain the buzz. The interest level around the film has dipped quite considerably in the last few days and the film is now almost entirely dependent on Shah Rukh Khan’s star power to give it a good initial on April 15.
The promos on television are also getting repetitive with each passing day. The lack of songs and variety in promos is hurting the pre-release campaign of the film. The makers do not have units to shuffle, the ‘Jabra’ fan anthem has released in different versions, but the visuals of the song and the tune are the same.
It’s now time for YRF to release a few dialogue promos and interesting bits from the film to generate curiosity. It’ll be interesting to see what YRF and SRK have planned for the next 15 days, leading up to the big release of the film.
What’s generating interest:
- Shah Rukh Khan: The film is all about him, his larger than life persona and the fan-following that he commands. And that fan-following will be put to test on April 15. It’ll be SRK’s name that will have to sell tickets on the Friday of release, before the word-of-mouth comes into play.
- Theatrical trailer: The trailer had generated quite a bit of interest around the film.
What’s stopping the film:
- Lack of variety in promos: The Jabra song was released 45 days ago and the trailer was launched 30 days ago. Since then, there hasn’t been anything to sustain the interest level of the audience.
- Limited appeal: Fan isn’t a very commercial film, it doesn’t have a popular female lady, nor does it have too many song and dance numbers. This will restrict the business of FAN at smaller centres.
- Non SRK fans: Die-hard fans don’t care about trailers or songs. Presence of their favourite star is reason enough to purchase a ticket on Friday morning. But will the general audience want to watch a film that celebrates SRK? That’s the big question, because the audience are well aware of the fact that Shah Rukh has Raees lined up for release, less than 3 months after FAN.
The opening day of FAN is currently trending at Rs 19.2 crore on IndicineFBO for Day 1 at the box office.
Ye to hona hi tha, when you do 3 films together. Currently Srk is busy in Raees, Gauri shinde movie so how he can give time for FAN promotion. Beside this another big reason for the low buzz of FAN is that public knows that Srk next movie Raees is coming in 3 months, so neutral audience is confuse which movie to see FAN or Raees. That’s why Salman and Amir both focus one movie at a time. Srk is working like Akki by doing 2-3 films at a time. Soon Srk will join Akki in 70-80 Cr culb… Or maybe Srk fall behind Akki….

Time and again Shahrukh Khan’s star power has been tested..he has carried the burden of delivering good,very good,excellent and bumper openers for the last twenty years and he has always silenced the naysayers..
Shahrukh Khan is the only actor who has delivered the biggest opening weekend grosser of the year for four consecutive times from 2001-2004 and all four of them have been with different directors,co-stars and banners..so I expect FAN to silence the critics one more time..of course the opening day number will be dependent on a final screen count..there is a difference in potential of a film releasing on 3000 screens and the one releasing in 4000 screens..if FAN gets 3000 screens then 20 crore may be difficult but if it goes beyond 3500 screens then 20 crore opening is very much possible..

SRK promoted the movie as a live commentator in IndvsBan match. He is most probably going to be there on the semis and finals. He is launching Kapil’s new show. I think this should be more than enough. As an SRK fan, I want him to work on his other films. The more movies he does, the more I can be motivated/intrigued.
I think Indicine is wrong here. It created a lot of buzz for 2 weeks after its trailer release. That will show on April 15. People have good memory when it comes to good films. They wont miss it. More people will watch Bahuballi 2 because they want to know why kattappa killed bahuballi. The same goes with Dhoom or any similar series. In fact, YRF should not release any other promos, as it will only give away the plot.

Dilwale (along with PRDP) had the highest buzz among movies released in 2015. But still Dilwale was an average one at box office as the movie wasn’t good enough. Similarly BB had lower buzz then PRDP but BB performed much better.
If the movie is good nothing will stop it from performing great and there are a number of examples like Neerja, Airlift, BM etc. And if it isn’t then the buzz isn’t much help other than a good first day collection.
The presence of SRK should ensure a good initial i.e. 18 cr plus even with low buzz. So my concern will not be the lack of buzz rather the lack of content in movie.
Generally the buzz only matters when you have a festive release but here is the other way round which is the eagerness of the people to watch a Psychological-Thriller. That too with thier superstar in such Avatar after a long time. 25cr first day is not out of the question…!
Wait for some days buz will decrease more ,and indicine why you are worrying and why to only you highlighting disadvantage side,

To be frank SRK name is enough to sell tickets for a movie… Also the content of FAN is strong which will also help in collection of FAN…
I think the promotion will kick start after the world cup & buzz will also increase.. The collection on first day will depend on its pre release buzz & screen numbers though FAN is not a commercial movie..

Salman khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan/kick collected 26crs+ on a ramzan day.
Their real value on a partial holiday like fan is getting would be 34crs+ easily.
Taking into consideration the genre of fan,it has to collect atleast 23-24 crs below which would be considered a below par opening
Actually this time,srk is also very confident for this movie,he knows that he doesn’t need any marketing or publicity to make fan a blockbuster,fan is gonna be one of the best movie of srks career

I think your memory is also weak because Jai Ho released on full working day and Fan is releasing on semi holiday.

And lastly you can’t compare Fan to a movie which was released 2.25 years ago.

Srk is very good at wat he does. So be ready for some surprise. I m anxiously waiting for Fan. Now 16 days to go. I m sure it will be a master piece. 20 crore plus openning is very much on. My prediction for opening day is 23 crore.
