Wanted vs Veer : Box office update

The first indication that Veer may not go the Wanted way, was when the collections first dipped on Saturday and later dropped quite significantly on Monday. Republic day (Tuesday) business helped the film get close to the first week numbers of Wanted, but the huge crash on Friday (Week 2) and further drops on Saturday and Sunday has meant that the film is highly unlikely to attain HIT status.

The fact that the distributors share is high from single screens has ensured the “moderate success” tag for the film, but business overall has been well below expectations.

Here is a comparison between Wanted and Veer

DayWantedVeer
Friday5.5 crores7 crores
Saturday 6.5 crores6 crores
Sunday6.5 crores7.5 crores
Weekend Total18.5 crores20.5 crores
Monday7.25 crores (Holiday)3 crores
Tuesday5.5 crores (Holiday in some parts)6.5 crores (Holiday)
Wednesday2.5 crores2 crores
Thursday 2.25 crores1.50 crores
Week 1 Total36 crores33.50 crores
Friday2.25 crores1.5 crores
Saturday2.50 crores1.75 crores
Sunday3.75 crores2 crores
Monday3 crores (Holiday)1 crore
11 day Total47.5 crores39.75 crores

The table above gives a pretty clear indication as to how both movies have trended, while Wanted opened slow and remained steady, Veer opened better but crashed quickly.

Few other points to be noted

  • The multiplex business of Veer is lower than Wanted.
  • The costs of Veer is much higher, hence the film needs much more for hit status.
  • The lifetime nett of Veer is likely to fold up under 45 crores, with a distributors share of around 25 – 26 crores.

Most likely verdict : Average

  • Q. Anil Sharma has claimed that Veer has been watched by more people than many major hits. Is this true?
    A. Box Office success is judged by the money though technically actual success is amount of people watching the film. It is true that Veer has been watched by more people than other hits as it is being watched mainly in theatres with low ticket rates and high entertainment taxes. The average ticket value for a film like Love Aaj Kal is probably about 100-110 while for Veer it’s probably 50-60 so this means that Veer has had more admissions. If your film works in circuits like the ones Veer has you will a lot of people watching the film but as ticket prices are low, the business will not be that high. The film is probably amongst top ten films in last three years if we go by actual tickets sold and that is a great way to judge a film from public point of view but box office is always judged from economics point of view.

  • Veer is an average success.. nothing more!!

Salman gave a powerful performance.. and just like every year he gave a powerpacked performance in the past (tere naam, wanted, hum dil de chuke sanam, karan arjun), his performance will once again be overshadowed by another who gives an award winning performance!! my early nominees for that performer: SRK for MNIK, Hrithik for Guzzarish or Kites, Ranbir for Rajneeti..

what do you guys think? Because i think we can all agree that Salman’s performance was powerful,, but it wasn’t award worthy.

  • Ahmed Khan bhai
thx u visited and we know that it needs more improvement , but i told u before it is not 100 % ready yet.

  • we should nt always go by the collection …see !!! how many people watched dis movie…!! d movie never going to be lost …it will always b in our heart

  • Mystic River
dear, star power only measure by collection not how many people watched the film.
    so ye sab bekaar hai.

  • @adii dont think so….it may be true for many other actors bt nt for salman khan..even if salman khan start giving 6/7 flop back to back ..it wont make any difference in his popularity.. :)

  • @ Mystic River:

Anil sharma is the director of the film, and there is no way of him going around counting how many people have watched the film. Even more absurd is him claiming that it has been watched more than other hits. If biased Salman fans want to buy that story just because Veer wasn’t superhit like they wanted, then they can. But I don’t buy it. There is no way of tracking that, and the director is just trying to give the film’s failure (or rather average success) a positive spin!

  • Anonymous, This was a ques asked in BOI. This answer is given by BOI.

When BOI is saying that VEER has been watched by more people than any other normal Hits. BOI says that it has been watched by More people than Love Aaj Kal.

Just coz ticket rates at Single screens are less and entertainment taxes are more,VEER has turned as
AVG.. Or eles it had been a SUPER HIT For sure.

When BOI says VEER is amongst Top Ten Most Watched movie in last 3 year then RESPECT it.

More over it was d negative reviews that killed VEER’s chance of becoming SUPER HIT.

Just imagine, it has been watched by more people than a Love Aaj Kal. This Explains VEER’s success.

  • According to BOI, Veer is below average. Sux for Sallu and Sallu fans! That’s three straight underperformers in a row. MAMK – disaster, LD – below average, and now Veer – below average!

  • @adiii ..Yes my dear dats a gud news as Box Office India have given the Veer (Hindi) Version Below average Tag.When they add the Telgu Version it will get average Tag INSHALLAH :) Just use ur brain b4 pasting on this thread :)

  • @Hina even boxoffice india didnt mention accurate figure of collection.@Adii biggest freak you should commit suicide

  • look at this frustated people still clinging on to that one last ticket that might make it an averager from a flop..some hope they have>>> why dont they buy all the tickets of all the shows then??? these morons will never accept the reality..!!!1
