Top 5 Actors in Bollywood – Box office battle

There has been a lot of discussion in the comments section as to who the Top 5 actors in Bollywood are at the moment. Most in the Singh Is King Box office collection topic were of the opinion that Akshay Kumar post Singh is King has gone past Shahrukh Khan as the King of Bollywood.

So we decided to do some research on the Top 5 actors in Bollywood and their last 5 movies. The actors included in the battle are Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan.

The results were quite unexpected. A few things before we give you the numbers.

Some points to remember are, actors with more releases in recent times (Post 2006) have an advantage over actors whose movies released in say 2003. That is because of the mutliplexes that have come up all over the country and also the increase in the number of prints.

So Akshay Kumar has a much bigger advantage over Aamir Khan as Aamir’s 5th movie Dil Chahta Hai released in 2001, when there were hardly any multiplexes. Also dont forget the inflation!

Here are the number.

5. Salman Khan – Salman Khan is at Number 5. We havent taken God Tussi Great Ho into count as it has just released last week and its final gross is awaited. He mainly suffers because of Marigold, as it did less than 1 crore of business in India! Salman has just one Blockbuster i.e Partner.

  • Jaan-E-Mann (2006) – 27 crores – Flop
  • Babul (2006) – 17 crores – Flop
  • Saalam-e-Ishq (2007) – 24 crores – Flop
  • Partner (2007) – 62 crores – Blockbuster
  • Marigold (2007) – 1 crore – Disaster

Total – 131 crores
Average – 26.2 crores per movie.

4. Aamir Khan – Aamir Khan although at a huge disadvantage is at Number 4. Imagine if Dil Chahta Hai had released today? It would have grossed atleast a minimum of 50 crores at the box office. Still since his come back the perfectionist has 2 Superhits and 1 Blockbuster to his credit.

  • Dil Chahta Hai (2001) – 16 crores – Hit
  • Mangal Pandey (2005) – 29 crores – Average
  • Rang De Basanti (2006) – 51 crores – Super Hit
  • Fanaa (2006) – 53 crores – Super Hit
  • Taare Zameen Par (2007) – 61 crores – Blockbuster

Total – 210 crores
Average – 42 crores per movie.

3. Shahrukh Khan – Has been affected big time due to the failure of Paheli. It didnt even get a face saving opening at the box-office and did just 13 crores. Rest of his movies have done well. KANK and Don bearly managed to go on to be hits. Chak De and Om Shanti Om were blockbusters.

  • Paheli (2005) – 13 crores – Flop
  • Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006) – 46 crores – Above Average to Hit
  • Don (2006) – 50 crores – Hit
  • Chak De India (2007) – 64 crores – Blockbuster
  • Om Shanti Om (2007) – 87 crores – Blockbuster

Total – 260 crores
Average – 52 crores per movie.

2. Akshay Kumar – Now this was a real toughie. But we decided to push Akshay Kumar down to second due to several reasons. He is the only star to not have a single solo ‘Blockbuster’ to his credit (Welcome was a multistarrer with Anil Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Nan Patekar). Although we have included Singh Is King, it has not completed its complete run at the boxoffice. We had to predict the total nett gross of Singh Is Kinng to 72 crores (44 crores in week one is confirmed + 18 crores in week 2 is also confirmed + 6 crores in week 3 and about 4 crores in the rest of the weeks is a prediction). The other reason for placing him at second is he is the only actor who has the advantage of every movie releasing Post – 2006. No release in the Pre multiplex era of India Cinema.

  • Heyy Babyy (2007) – 52 crores – Super hit
  • Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) – 54 crores – Super hit
  • Welcome (2007) – 76 crores – Blockbuster (Multistarrer)
  • Tashan (2008) – 31 crores – Flop
  • Singh Is King (2008) – 72 crores – Hit to Super hit

Total – 285 crores
Average – 57 crores per movie.

1. Hrithik Roshan – By far the youngest actor in the list, Hrithik Roshan by pure box office numbers of India, tops although by a very close margin. 2 solo blockbusters (KMG, Krrish), 1 multi star Blockbuster (Dhoom 2) and 1 Super hit (Jodha Akbar). His only failure in the last 4 years has been Lakshya which did average business at the boxoffice. A great comeback after about 6 failures in a row after Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai.

Hrithik also has two movies pre 2006 which is a disadvantage.

  • Koi Mil Gaya (2003) – 44 crores – Super Hit
  • Lakshya (2004) – 23 crores – Average
  • Krrish (2006) – 66 crores – Blockbuster
  • Dhoom 2 (2006) – 86 crores – Blockbuster
  • Jodhaa Akbar (2008) – 63 crores – Super Hit

Total – 282 crores
Average – 56.4 crores per movie.

The whole list might change when Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Chandni Chowk To China release in December. SRK could make it to the top if Rab Ne works big time. How Chandni Chowk fares will also be interesting. Hrithik’s kites releases in the summer of 2009 and there is news that it could be sold for 100 crores if not more. Aamir Khan’s Ghajini too releases this year end and is expected to create boxoffice history.

We will post an update here after all the 3 movies; Rab Ne, Chandni Chowk and Ghajini release.

Note – These figures are only of how the movies fared at the Indian Box-office. Shahrukh Khan is the undisputed king of the overseas box-office. Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan come a close second and third.

Lets discuss below, if you dont agree with the article please post a comment on why. Thank you for reading.

  • ABD: You are 100% right.. therefore I said earlier to Punjabi Sher that there’re 2 unique, extraordinay actors in bollywood: Shahrukh & Hrithik.. Hrithik for what u mentioned and what I mentioned in my earlier comments, Shahrukh because of his (charm & strong presenece) each one of them got a different strength, in a different way..and to be a unique, extra-ordinary u must have some sort of strengths which others don’t have and it’s not necessary that all the actors must have the same strenght.. no. Hrithik can play a superman, a spiderman, a batman because of his height, body, his look, but we can’t ask Shahrukh to play these roles, simply because he doesn’t fit in such roles, and Hrithik can’t be a comedian or make u laugh like shahrukh does… I remember a scene in the movie ( Hum Tumare Hai Sanam) where shahrukh is drunk, sad because madhuri, his wife, left him.. the scene where he walks in the house and talks to a horse statue.. this scene made me laugh so much, that’s only an example as shahrukh played many funny scenes in his movies, but neither Hrithik nor Akshay can make us laugh this way.. Akshay is doing comedy movies, he says some funny dialogues, but he can’t make u laugh with his body language as Shahrukh does.

This is shahrukh’s strenght, funny and romantic.

  • looks like i cannot keep out of this discussion…
ABD: Abinav Bindra(Won the gold medal for India) has great talent but it only paid off bcoz of hardwork and fantastic facilities provided by his father in the backyard of his house. Remember this is the same guy who cudnot qualify in last Olympics.
Hrithik is a good human being listens to his parents but dont u think his father had a much vital role to play in his success(after a series of flops) dont u thnk Rakesh Roshan might hav given him the much needed inputs as a director wen he watched “Mujse Dosti Karoge”, for me he lost it thr completely. keep urself in thr and tell me wont u jus learn acting wit al the facilities provided to u…
AK had to borrow maney frm somebody to purchase a book on Acting leave alone going to acting schools
AK n SRK r the only actors who hav managed it single handedly…Im not sympathizing wit these actors
but some plp r just very lucky in thr life Hrithik knws it n he respects it AB Jr knws it that is y these guys dont overboard on nything

Fathiya says Ranbir is good, lady if Kapoor was not after Ranbir do u think Sanjay Leela Bhansali wud hav casted him…i feel….. Neil Nitin Mukesh to b a better actor compared 2 Ranbir…

  • n Aamir i guess u guys wil agree that he wont giv sarcastic comments or derogatory remarks, few days bac i watched him telling that he is happy for AK, he adds “his hardwork is finally paid off”
y am telling this…if AK has learned his lessons, i can c AK reaching grt8 heights bcoz now he has the all important money factor in his kitty…

  • Aryan: I know this fact, yes.. I worked for more than 25 years in different institutions, and how much u got experience, qualifications and certificates, no one would give u a chance to get a job, but when someone ( which u know) introduce u to the company, easily you’ll get the job.. that’s fact which we can’t deny, but there’s also another fact.. I will get the job.. but can I prove myself in the job given to me? Am I really qualified, talented, hard working and the institution would be happy for hiring me? Am I going to reach the top in my career? This is another question Aryan.. I will get the job easily.. yes.. but well ppl appreciate my work.. that’s another issue.

Ranbir Kapoor easily got the job, but proved himself and won the audience.. Neil Mukesh also got the job easily as his grandfather (Mukesh) was a famous singer, got a good look and talent, he also deserves to have a good future, but still early to say so ’cause he did only one movie and his acting was so good.

Ranbir did 2 movies and in the 2 of them, he proved himself as a good actor, this boy will reach the top.. I’m sure, not because of his background.. family because he’s what we see on the screen!

  • More to add: Aryan.. Memo.. Mithun’s son. why did he fail as an actor?!! His dad is a famous actor in India!! so ask yourslef this question!

  • Fathiya, good that u talk abt making the most of the opportunities…i hav jus commented on u saying Ranbir has “extraordinary talent”, its too early 2 say abt Ranbir though i knw he’ll b still tried by producers as happened wit AB Jr. n abt Mithun’s son is considered wel i dont thnk he is a brand name in bollywood… in W.Bengal may b YES
n who said he has failed he is only one film old, n i dont thnk BAH is a HIT.
these guys will b tested again n again bcoz they hav a brand name attached 2 them…
who makes the most of it will b the winner thats al.
eg: Kareena kapoor took so many yrs to prove it in “Jab We Met” but still was the highest paid actress i guess

  • Aryan: BAH is a simi hit. About Memoh: If ppl would accept some newcomers, that’s also an issue: just put the 3 above actor’s names, including one more, in a line as follows:

RANBIR KAPOOR.. NEIL MUKESH… MEMOH ( AND HARMAN BAWEJA) : Which one of these new actors we love to see them again on the screen??

As an audience, I would say 3 out of 4, the 3 above actors are very good and got all the qualificaton to be in films except (one) which is (Memoh) he got a zero qualification.. this is a fact ’cause his look is a zero, his voice is a zero, his dancing (in the trailer which I saw) is a zera and can’t be in films, can’t be an actor, for me.. he’s not applicable and I don’t know for others.

  • Karan Johar had same thoughts abt AB Jr till Yuva happened… y alone him i thnk many had n still have…
my discussion is not abt who is good bcoz all r in the same league 1yr old n i htnk u dont like Imran Khan
i hope u hav same empathy towards Rajiv(Aamir fame) who was much better than ur list of future superstars…

  • Aryan: who is Rajiv? About Imran, I just forgot to add his name, u r wrong in yr conclusion, I do like him, I didn’t consider him a great actor from his 1st movie JTYJN but I think he’s done a good job in his new film: Kidnap.. Imran got a good future too, only Memoh.

  • Fathiya this is wat happens wen u r not a starkid, i suggest u plz watch “Aaamir” released in June im not sure. i dont knw if DVD is released. Rajiv is the lead actor in the movie.
i hope the movie is atleast nominated for best Film/script category
Indicine Team plz provide the link to ur review on “Aaamir”

  • Aryan: So he’s the actor of the movie Aamir.. yes.. I saw it, it’s a very good movie ( I even asked Mr. Pachan on his blog to watch it, a small production but a good script, interesting movie.. yah.. he’s a good actor too but not for commercial movies, to sing or dance, for serious roles as he did in Aamir)

Indicine Team: Is Aziza a “robot”?!!!!!!! she didn’t answer my question and she just keeps on posting the same comment with the same words frequently!!!! I think she’s a robot, can’t think.. can’t speak.. and someone is just pressing her button to spread the same comment.. haha.

  • Aryan and followers,
Well right here is a classic case of irony. When a movie is successful, it’s wrong for all the credit to be given to the leading actor. And the cast’s backs go up because they deserve credit and are not getting it. When a movie flops, everybody seems to want to wash their hands off the project and let the leading actor take the blame for it.
Hrithik’s acting in Mujhse Dhosti was excellent!! Just because the movie flopped, you’re saying his acting was poor. Dont be so ignorant. There were other reasons that contributed to the flopping of his movies and they had nothing to do with his acting ability and performance in the movies.
His father provided him with opportunities to broadcast his talent, I dont see anything wrong with that. I think you’re just picking on this point and making it out to be a flaw of Hrithik’s. Like I said, the world finds it hard to accept people who have everything and will go to all sorts of petty levels to find flaws in them and put them down [for nothing]. But remember these kind of people [given that they remain humble and retain their humility in the light of success] are blessed and under the grace of God. I rest my case.

  • ABD……………..Who said all the hits of akshay is in the comedy.See Bhool bulaiya, Namastey London,Ajnabee,Aakhein and many more. I think ur not able to understand wat is acting? Akshay can perform serious roles also perfectly. It is like saying that Hritik cant perform comedy roles………..Shahrukh cant perform comedy……………..Aamir cant perform comedy???????? It means that they all are bad actors.
Comedy is the most strong point of akshay……………….He is grt in this form it doesnt mean that he cant perform serious roles………………..He is a perfect package of Action,Comedy,Romance and even in negative roles. And he is a new king now…………..accept this truth.

  • Fathiya……….Shahrukh is a good comedian than akshay???????????? GOOD JOKE. Its good that ur saying this joke here in this site………..If u have said in india u would have been consider a mad grl. Akshay is a king of comedy……….U said this………..His dialouques are very very very very very very funny. See his all comedy movies u will came to know And ur extraoridinary ranbir……………..hhhahahahahahahah……….If his father was not there he is not able to even come to any low grade T.V serial……….See his movies Bachana hai hasseno……Totally waste movie………..Dont even dare to compare ranbir and the grt akshay.
U r not any king that we will see all the movies that u will say this is bad or good……….All the people have differant opinions……………AKSHAY KING KUMAR ………………RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dear Fathiya,
Dont dignify Punjabi Sher’s comments with a response. Just let him be…. ;)It’s like hitting your head against a wall. Take my advice, ignore him.

  • ABD: Thanks.. and that’s the best thing to do. to ignore his comments and I will… even if he/she say hundreds of bad words about shahrukh.. I won’t respond.

A question for you: why the movie Mujse Dosti Karogi flopped?!! I thought it was a hit because while releasing – and it was after the movie Devdas – some ppl in my country said that Hrithik did a movie which was mind blowing in US and did even better than Devdas at the box office! and they meant this movie, and when I saw it, I found it good, everything was good about the movie and I saw it 3 or 4 times although the script was taken from a hollywood movie ( The Truth about Cats & Dogs) which was also good. MDK ovie had everything, and all the reasons to be a successful one but it failed, as everyone is saying now.

Day before yesterday, I was watching on NDTV channel an interview with Abhishek Pachan, girls were questioning him, and the last question they asked him was: Do u think that your movie Drona will be a hit? He said: I don’t know.. believe me, we don’t know, till todate, what’s the reason behind any successful movie, and if we really new the reason then we would’ve done only successful movies.

He’s totally right ’cause some excellent movies failed and some crappy did well at the box office, therefore I’m always saying : To hell with the box office.. u watch any movie with your own eyes, listen with your own ears, think with your own brain, value it according to u and not according to other ppl.. what I hate when I find sometimes some girls loved a movie, but as soon as they find out that the movie flopped, didn’t do well at the box office, they immediately change their mind!!!! crazy ppl, don’t have their own opinions about anything!!

  • Mujshe Dosti Karogi did well overseas, but was average in India. The main reason for the failure was the direction and Kareena Kapoor’s overacting.

Fathiya, Its Amitabh / Abhishek BACHCHAN. Not Pachan! I guess when people spell his name, they join the two words and some spell it as Amitabhpachan! The right spelling is Bachchan and spelt as Bach-chan

Also, Fathiya.. A movie which is crappy to you not necessarily would be crappy to someone else. But a bad movie like Jhoom Barabar, Tashan, Aag just cannot work at the box-office! Whereas a good movie like A Wednesday, will succeed without any hype! And in between movies which are not-so-bad not-so-good could go either way.

Regarding Drona, the hype is clearly with Kidnap. Drona will have to be a good movie or atleast in between.. If its bad, which it most likely looks like going by the trailer, its a goner!

  • FIRST OF ALL.. HAPPY EID TO ALL MUSLIMS.. EVERYWHERE.

Indicine Team: I Know it’s (Bachan) but we got used to his name in our country, saying (Pachan) therefore, I sometimes write Pachan by mistake.

And it’s true Indicine team that sometimes some bad movies win at the box office and some of them fail too.. the movies u mentioned r bad movies except JBJ which wasn’t so bad, a passtime movie which didn’t have any story, songs were good only. There r lots of movies which r so good and they fail ( I mentioned earlier many of them during my previous comments, so I don’t have to mention them again)

  • Hello All…
Indicine Team to b frank i didnt expect u to write the movie flopped bcoz of Kareena’s overacting, lets b very straight even SRK followers dont u guys thnk SRK overacts wen “he is getting mauled by somebody” or wit his histrionics, im not saying he is not a good actor but he too overacts…
n thr was a mistake i meant “Main Prem ki dewani hoon” and not “Mujse dosti karoge” sorry for that…
ABD im not jeoluos of Hrithik, i saw KNPH 3 times n that is the highest for me…n im not even saying Hrithik is a bad actor, im jus clearing it that do not giv credit only to Hrithik bcoz Rakesh Roshan had a huge role in his sucess, and u must knw somthing Rakesh is the best storyteller in bollywood not even Yash Chopra.
I agree D:2 was a sucess only bcoz of Hrithik
as far as looks, physique and watever is concerned i guess Arjun Rampal is good in every aspect. n also a good actor these days…but that is not my point
For me Hrithik as an actor is complete only wen he can make plp laugh out of thr senses
    So ABD “why so serious”
“Playing safe is not a big deal make ordinary… extraordinary” i hope plp understood wat i meant

  • Aryan: Maine Prem Ki Deewani Ho.. do u know who’s the director of this movie? It’s the same director of ( Hum Aap Ke Hai Khon) This movie is just a (cartoon!!) Hrithik was a cartoonest in this movie! it was an interesting movie ’cause made us laugh so much in most of the scenes. It was different, funny, and stupid in the same time. I think it was a flop movie

Indicine team: U said that Mojhse Dosti Karogi failed because Kareena was overacting. The direction was fine, nothing was wrong with it ( can u compare the direction of this movie with JTYJN?!) and Kareena wasn’t overacting.. she was playing (a stupid shallow girl) ( believe it or not.. there’re lots of stupid audiences who watch a movie and never understand anything.. therefore the audience thought she was overacting!!!) I don’t think that’s the reason for the movie to flop.. What about Kajol?? wasn’t she overacting in KKKG?!! ( and she won the best actress award for this movie!!) And who would fall in love, in our real life, for such a girl who was acting like a crazy in the movie?!!Shahrukh’s acting wasn’t so good in sad scenes, men were weeping in the movies like ladies which never happens in the real life! Bigb repeated the same role as his role in (Mohabbetain) as a strong touph man, Karina was cheesy, that little fat boy’s acting was pathetic! despite of all these weaknesses in the movie, it was a super hit or a blockbuster! ( I’m not sure of the correct rating), not on KKKG which wasn’t so deserving movie, even Chalte Chalte.. the story wasn’t bad but Shahruk’s acting was poor in the movie, even Rani’s acting in the last airport scene.. wasn’t so good.

The audiences watch movies and value them differently.. therefore some good movies flop.. some bad movies win!

  • ABD ur right with ur words “His father provided him with opportunities to broadcast his talent” who is going to provide the same to plp who do not come frm any filmy background…
my comments showcases this fact “some plp r just very lucky in thr life” good for them…
to me wat Hrithik has acheived is not inspirational…
wat AB acheived after being down n out…
wat SRK acheived after being down due 2 Hrithink’s phenomenal sucess in his first film is inspiring
and now wat AK has acheived wit comedy as medium but still being humble n down to earth…
Acting is not al abt doing serious roles…

  • i dont say actors shud inspire im jus giving my comments everyone has thr highs n lows
i want u 2 admit that his dad played a good part in his sucess n if ur fav is a good guy he will admit it hands down…

  • i belive in my friend raj and abdur and other friends whose favourate is akshay kumar and i must say no body is far far near to akshay.the only king is akshay singh is king.

  • Aryan, According to you Hrithik will be a complete actor only when he can make you laugh out of your senses, what does that mean? He needs to act in a non-sensical comedy, with funny dialogues?

To me, he was brilliant in the first half, in a comic role, of Lakshaya. Some people believe Lakshya is Hrithik’s best performance to date! In Koi Mil Gaya, as an almost retard, he made people laugh with his body language.. Even Tusshar Kapoor can make people laugh with funny dialogues, 80% of the credit then would go to the dialogue writer wouldnt it?

I dont think Hrithik will ever do a role like Akshay Kumar’s in Welcome. Honestly, i dont think he would be doing a Multi-starrer with 5 – 6 supporting actors in the future. He will only do to quality movies with major roles.

You are saying Hrithik is not inspirational. For me he is the biggest inspiration. After KNPH he was compared to SRK, Aamir Khan and heck even Amitabh Bachchan. He was a craze, on cover of every magazine. Even on India Today, he was the 3rd actor after Amitabh and Madhuri Dixit to hit the cover. Noone can live up to such hype. 2 years later after some bad movies, the same people and magazine labelled him Zero. THey called him this decades Kumar Gaurav and what not. But from there to rise with a great performance in KMG, Lakshya, Dhoom 2, Krrish and Jodha Akbar. Continous with quality movies and award worthy performance is not an easy task to achieve. He could have easily gone on to be someone like Zayed Khan or Fardeen Khan but he rose from all the failures and is today one of the best in the industry.

From nothing to something is great. From Great to almost written off to achieveing greatness again after repeated failures is legendary.

  • Well said, Mr. Ashok!
    You are now my friend.
I have heard from many insiders in the industry that Hrithik is very very obedient and respectful to his director, and will do exactly as told, even though personally he may not agree with the directives he is receiving. I have also been told on authority that he has requested many times for scenes to be re-shot if he feels he has not performed well enough in them, but he will never oppose his director. This is what happened in Mein Prem Ki Diwani Hoon. He followed his director’s orders to the letter even though he wasnt happy with some of the scenes where he thought overacting was involved. But as the director was satisfied he did not say much more. This is a sign of true humility and professionalism. Even though his father has played a major role in the launching of his career, it is entirely due to his own efforts that he now appears as number 1 on Dr. R.C Patel’s list, which I feel is the only list that is worthy. His performances in his father’s films are perfect because his father agrees to re-shoot scenes when Hrithik requests the same.

    To my dear friend Aryan,
Please accept the reality – how can u call Akshay humble? Is demanding 72 crores per film a sign of humility? When Adlabs offered Hrithik 35 crores for a 3 film contract, Akshay immediately reacted by refusing his own Adlabs contract for 20 crores. Is that a sign of humility? He could not accept an amount lower than Hrithik’s. Is that a sign of humility? Hrithik eventually turned down the Adlabs contract for 35 crores because he wasnt happy with the scripts of the three films. That is true humility. It is evident from the screen that Akshay is arogant and thinks too much of himself and it is evident from the media that he has become extremely money-minded. So who can call him humble? On B News [Zee TV] the public was asked whether Akshay’s demand for 72 crores for a film was justified, ZERO % said ‘yes’ and 100% said ‘No’. How arrogant he is. If he gets 72 crores what will be left for the rest of the cast and crew? Even the very best films do not make more than 80 or 90 crores. So my dear friend Aryan, I am happy with Akshay’s and SRK’s success in the industry. But both of them have misused this success and have turned into human beings that I would certainly like to keep away from.
And once again Mr Ashok, thumbs up!!

  • Hello to all my dear friends,
Thank you ABD and Mr Ashok for your comments.
I would respectfully like to point out that the measure of an actor’s success is determined by his time span in the industry, and his achievements within that time span. Hrithik rose to superstardom from his very first film. His second and third films were consecutive superhits. Then came a phase of averages and misses. Hrithik used this dip in his graph as a learning experience and reinvented and revitalised himself to rise to where he is today. All this has been achieved in a miraculously short timespan. Hrithik can therefore be likened to the legendary Phoenix, that rose to glory out of ashes. On the other hand, for how long have Akshay and Shahrukh been in this industry? I would say almost 2 decades now. Shahrukh also had a background in Television acting before joining films, so his timespan is even longer. So if you compare the achievements of these two gentlemen (Akshay Kumar is only now experiencing some success) in the context of timespan, then Hrithik soars above them and is miles ahead in the race. Also, we shall have to wait and see for how long this spate of comic successes of Akshay Kumar will last. In my experience, comedies are like medicine, they can only be taken in small doses. Dont we all remember what happened to dear Govinda? He was on such a high with success after success with David Dhawan but then what happened? He just disappeared into no where. It is only now that he has started to make a comeback but it is proving to be a slow and painful recovery for him. I fear the same will happen to Akshay if he is not careful and humble. Asking for atronomical amounts based on mindless comic success is going to prove to be his downfall. He is treading on very thin ice. And I can already see the cracks appearing on the ice… But then what can he do? He does not have the talent, the versatility, the ability to have solid ground under his feet. So what we can do is pray that he treats his newfound success as a God given gift and invests his earnings wisely so that when the slump arrives (and it will arrive, mind you), he does not fade into oblivion like many of his previous counterparts have.

  • Thanks ABD. Hrithik accepted the 35 crore deal but returned the signing amount back once he realised it was just not working out. 35 crores was big money at that time. And its also very true that Akshay rejected the deal because Hrithik was paid much more than him. One more thing about Akshay that you missed is… He is widely known for chopping scenes of other actors like Govinda in that 2006 comedy.. dont remember the movie’s name. Akshay is very insecure of other actors outshining him.

Dr RC Patel saab, I too feel Akshay’s new found success is gonna be very temporary. He would be lucky if it lasts more than 2 years! Every film of his in the last 2 years has been comedy. Tashan was an action movie and we all know the result dont we? Some say Bhool Bhulaiyaa wasnt a comedy but if you watch the Malayalam or Kannada version the main character that of Akshay wasnt comic. In Bhool Bhulaiya it was marketed as a comedy and that brought the audience in and Priyadarshan has re scripted about 80% of the film to suit Akshay’s comic.

The worse part about Akshay’s movies is they are so very low on quality, its embarrasing. Movies like Hey Baby, Tashan, Welcome, Singh is King shouldnt have been made in the first place. No story, no sense, no logic….. Just make a movie with a few funny scenes and dialogues, put Akshay Kumar, make him do all kind of weird things like pissing on others (He did it in both Bhool Bhulaiya and Singh Is King), put a pretty woman who cant act to save her life (yeh Katrina Kaif) get David Dhawan, Anees Bazme or Priyadarshan to direct it, shoot the movie in 2 months… spend more on promotion than on good script writers.. make a fool out of the Indian audience who get sucked into the hype…. earn 120 crores from it. Make 5 more such scriptless, senseless, poor movies!!!!

Its sad! We need more movies like Jodha Akbar and A Wednesday!!!! Really!

  • I like this…
Here r some of the things i believe in…
To make a ordinary script work n spin money to the producer is somthing of a job…
To accept wat u r is grtness…even though how muchever shameful it is…
I believe if plp were thinking in terms with u…i thnk AK wud hav definetely looked out for some other genre

Here i am not taking Akki’s side, this is jus my analysis…
y do u thnk so many comic movies r wrking ever since Hera Pheri was released…plp like them n he had to chose some path after he was no more bachelor…he took comedy even though he wasnt good at it…wrked on it and today u plp call him King of Comedy…if u c post his marriage he started getting fan base…wit comedy as genre, now if u thnk his comic timing is not good i wud say u guys hav never made plp smile/laugh…

now some plp r talking abt money i say wats wrong in it, wen the prod unit is not bothered on spending 72 Crores on him y shud plp like gt tensed…he has whole heartedly accepted the fact that he wrks for money for watever he does he wants money…he is a one man earning in his family he has to secure his future to make sure that may b his son will hav the luxurious that he cudnt hav may b in future he can play a saving grace for his son if his movies start getting bombed…

I thnk this is getting a big let me break it…or els u guys will get bored…
