2016 has been a dull year as far as opening of films is concerned. The best was ‘Baaghi’ which exceeded expectations on its opening day, followed by probably a film like ‘Ki and Ka’ which managed to open better than it was expected to.
‘FAN’ opened very well, but couldn’t sustain throughout the day and the film also had ‘partial holiday’ (Ram Navami) advantage. While ‘Airlift’ was on-par, ’Housefull 3′ didn’t get the kind of initial that a franchise film should.
With the first half of 2016 coming to an end, all eyes are now on the ‘Sultan’ of the box office. The film is not only expected to get a bumper opening on Friday, but more than double the collections of the biggest opener of the year so far.
While such high expectations is a testament to the superstardom of Salman Khan, the pressure to deliver a 40 crore plus opening – something that has never ever been achieved on non-Diwali holiday – will be incredibly huge. To add to it, the runtime of the film (2 hours 48 minutes) will result in fewer shows at multiplexes and hence lesser collections.
The opening records that Sultan chases:
2016 opening: Sultan is certain to top, but what will be the margin with which it beats the previous best? If trade expectations are anything to go by, the collections of Sultan could be more than double of FAN, 2.5 times more than Housefull 3, 3.5 times more than Airlift and Baaghi and 4 times more than The Jungle Book. How big will that be?

- Housefull 3 – 15.21 crore
- Airlift – 12.35 crore
- Baaghi - 11.94 crore

All time opening: This is where things get tougher. Only two films – Happy New Year and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo – have scored more than 40 crore on Day 1. Sultan has a chance to beat both, as it’s now certain that Yash Raj Films will release the film on Eid holiday. The biggest ‘Post-Eid’ opening day so far is the 32.92 crore total of Ek Tha Tiger – which was achieved 4 years ago. If Sultan opens at Ek Tha Tiger level, it’s certain to post the highest opening day and single day of all time.

Make no mistake – Sultan is NOT an out and out commercial entertainer. If it tops all the records mentioned above, it will be unbelievably huge. Even a 38 crore plus total will be considered beyond extraordinary.

Only a fool like you can quote a hypothetical question as a primary proof. Still, while answering, indicine didn’t mention if they are estimating these figures keeping 5000 screens into mind. Plus Mohen Jodaro will be releasing on August 12 (i.e. a normal Friday). So didn’t it occur to your tiny brain that ticket prices on a non-holiday will be way lower than that of next day of Lakshmi Pooja? Hence lower ticket price would eventually negate the higher occupancy and number of screens.
As far as comparison between HNY and PRDP is concerned, there is no solid evidence which says that footfall or occupancy of PRDP was higher than HNY on day 1.
So Keep barking like a loser about that so called manipulation. Because at end of the day you have got only that illusionary tactics to save your fragile ass.

@Everyone, Get this. It’s very simple. Almost every movie is commercial because they are made to make profits in the first place.
Except for those films that are made to showcase something else other than profits or not with the sole purpose of making profits. E.g. Dhobighat, Phir Milengi, Guzaarish, Paheli or Raincoat.
So, commercial (a term related to making profits) + Entertainer (something that entertains people) = Commercial Entertainer.

Haters started crying before even film release. They are calling masala,comercial or copycat. Funny thing is that it is clearly content oriented movie from its trailer,but people calling It is dangle copy that is not in going to release before December.
I’m expecting upward of 45 cr as it has to better the amount of last Eid day by 25% at least. Last year Bajrangi collected around 37 cr on Eid day so this year it should be 37+9 crore approx. So anything around 46 would be satisfying.

I watched F&F 7 then watched fan, you wont imagine i was not able to continue watching fan for 10 min …LOL Apart. Last week UP released also bakwas trailer and i wonder who watched Shahid movies now a days. He doest look like actor and unnecessary hyped like he has talent. Now coming to akshay after 5-6 movies one good movie really who will take burden to watch all in theatre to search for good one. Aamir – still i know omg was better than pk and always prefer to watch OMG. In last 20 -25 yrs only 2 movies 3 idiots and rdb and people argue you have got big talent but i always bored with your movies. Hritik acting is good but he has to give more movies in a year but not like kites. I liked agneepath but sanjay was poor. Despite peak of his career people are not confidence about his superstardom to open record number that too to break 2 year old record.
