Snapdeal decides against renewing Aamir Khan’s contract

The Economic Times of India reports that leading e-commerce website Snapdeal has decided not to renew Aamir Khan’s contract as the brand ambassador of the company. The decision comes a few months after Aamir’s controversial statement on ‘growing despondency’ in the country.

Timeline of Aamir’s association with Snapdeal:

  • February 2015: Aamir Khan signs one-year contract and becomes the brand ambassador of Snapdeal
  • March 2015: Snapdeal launches new brand campaign ‘Dil Ki Deal’ featuring Aamir Khan
  • November 2015: Aamir makes a comment on growing despondency, says his wife spoke about leaving the country and fears for her child.
  • January 2016: Agency that handles the ‘Incredible India’ campaign decides against renewing Aamir’s contract.
  • February 2016: Snapdeal snaps ties. Decides to look out for another celebrity once Aamir’s contract expires.

Back in November, soon after Aamir’s comments on intolerance, Snapdeal had distanced itself from the actor’s comments “Snapdeal is neither connected nor plays a role in comments made by Aamir Khan in his personal capacity. Snapdeal is a proud Indian company built by passionate young Indians focused on building an inclusive digital India” read a statement released by the company.

  • @mohit Supporting India doesn’t mean you have to support the elected government as well.
Aamir never mentioned the govt, nor any particular incident or religion, which led to all extermist hindus like you getting offended not bcoz of his remark but bcoz he is a muslim.
Grow up and get past this political agenda.
Warna Nafrat ki raajneeti 2019 ke baad nahi chalegi.

  • @indicine absolutely nothing wrong or offensive in my comment at 1:26 pm .. Its related to the topic too .. Please post it.
    Thank you.

  • @ishan gulati .. Hahaha right !! According to these guys, not spending a few bucks to watch a certain actors movie, uninstalling Snapdeal app, spreading hatred msgs on social media is what true patriotism is ???
As you rightly termed, keyboard warriors they are.

  • @mohit
    So, you’re a butt hurt SRKian. ? ?
Aamir has done way more for the nation like a small kid like you or even a sane person like me.
He has taken India to oscars, BAFTA, various prestigious Int’l film festivals and made a show like Satyamev Jayate when your SRK was doing Zor Ka Latka and Panchvi Fail. So, yeah he is as patriotic as any Indian can ever get.

  • I have absolutely no problem with Snapdeal ending its deal with Aamir bcoz at the end of the day, they’re businessmen. They have to think about their business only and not about pleasing some group.
Aamir’s work will speak for himself once Dangal releases.

  • @mohit you my friend are misinterpreting and twisting my words, there’s a huge difference between being a patriotic and a keyboard warrior, there is a huge difference between supporting the nation and been a blind fanatic of the elected government.
Get your head clear and keep reading my comment again and again and realize that weird antics don’t make you a patriotic, have a nice day.

They are not here to please Bhakts. They are here to do business. And I say this as a proud fan of Rajkumar Hirani & Aamir Khan. I know how ruthless these ‘bhakts’ are. I had faced harsh criticism for defending a ‘supposedly’ anti-Hindu movie. (you would have guessed the name, right?)

I personally didn’t like Aamir’s statement. But dont drag Snapdeal into this matter. Idiotic fanatics have already damaged Snapdeal with all the nonsense boycotts. Why should snapdeal suffer? Aamir/srk are too big stars. Snapdeal is a startup. I really support snapdeal here coz i dont want a growing startup in India to suffer because of political garbage.

  • Nothing can stop toofani…Dangal….

Neutral audience loves aamir films..and he has also got the support of superman salman fans

  • @neeraj

Flipkart which is on top of its game is still dependent on venture funding. Imagine how these guys would be feeling when they wake up one day and realize that thousands of people have either downvoted or deleted their app because of some political statement by their brand ambassador

  • @isham gulati
    @kaali
Then bringing shame to Indias name by calling calling it intolerant is patriotic?
Aamir said he would leave India with his wife. Called India intolerant.
Shahrukh called India intolerant, supports pakistan, bringing shame to India.

  • @fake indian
Aamir never said he wanted to leave India.
Aamir never said ‘India is intolerant’. He said there is ‘despondency is growing’. That doesn’t mean he called ‘all Indians intolerant’. Learn some english.
SRK never said that ‘India is intolerant’. He said youth of india is ‘becoming increasingly intolerant’ and ‘will take us to dark ages’.
Kuch padhle, likhle bhai. Fir unka interview shuru se dekhio. ?
Mat dekh Dangal, Fan aur Raees. ? India will watch it. Don’t you worry.

There was a typo in the previous comment indicine. Please delete that one and post this.

  • I don’t think snapdeal done anything wrong but yes it is loss for Aamir, not a loss of money or work but a loss of credibility and dignity. I know till the release of Dangal, many thing like this gonna happen to Aamir in coming days.
I usually not interested in online shopping much, I had shopped with snapdeal twice and once from Amazon. Downloaded snapdeal only because of Aamir and shopped once that time, later than during those time when people giving negative rating to them due to Aamir’s statement. But now I am gonna uninstall the app as Aamir was the reason of installing them and again Aamir is the reason to uninstall.
@ishaan,@kaali,@riju,@ank agree with you but snapdeal is not wrong if we think about their perspective.
@Gj007 you are also right with your views

  • @Bollywood Fan let any Non Khan film cross 200cr at bo forget 300cr, non khan films even struggle to cross 100cr, 400cr WW 500cr WW 800cr WW remain dream for non khan actor lol

  • BTW incident like these are giving reason to true patriotic to speak on social media. Its heartening to see there are people who has immense respect for this country and they will boycott the product and brand not because of their service but because its brand ambassador something which is against to their thought.

When you understood you are loosing argument bring Hindu-Muslim issue play victim card and blame it on Hindus.
