In an interview with Hindustan Times, Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan has said that the preference given to ‘festive releases’ is stupid and uninteresting.
While his last non-festive release was ‘My Name Is Khan’ way back in 2010, Khan says “when I release a film, that should be a festival”.
Some excerpts from his interview:
No, it’s (Diwali) not my slot. As a matter of fact, I’ve stopped releasing films on festivals. I always tell everyone, ‘When I release a film, that should be a festival’.
Eid mein namaz padthe hai, Diwali mein puja karte hai (we read Namaz during Eid and do puja during Diwali). Now, it’s become all about releasing a film on a date. It’s stupid and uninteresting.
(I would) release a film the day it’s completed. Whoever wants to come, come, whoever doesn’t want to come, don’t come.

@hrithik. SRK has said he has Stopped releasing movie on festival. Do u understand the meaning of stopped? He was never afraid of clashes. SRK’s film has clashed twice but Salman’s and Aamir’s movie never clashed in past 5 years. Infact Aamir movie get 1 month free run and Salman’s get 2 week free run for past 5 years. Salman is just using his real life image that of a criminal in his movies. While Aamir choose movie with 0 risk. Only Sharukh has taken Risk for past few years. Ra one was a huge risk, Don 2 was a sequeal of not so successful movie, JTHJ was a emotional drama, even MNIK was not a out n out successful movie. Apart from CE SRK has taken little and big risk with all his prev ious films. What has Aaamir done? Remake the movie Gajini which has been a big hit in tamil and when it got dubbed and relased in Telugu, it was a huge huge hit there too. Aamir has remaked it and released it, is it a big deal? u all the know abt Raju hirani’s calibre, dont u? and lastly Dhoom series, the previous one, Dhoom 2 was a huge blockbuster in India and overseas as well. Nowadays when movies has became about initial, Our Aamir has done the sequeal and made it a huge blockbuster in India and overseas, is it a big deal?. There is nothing to talk abt coward Salman. Lets be truthful here- 4 of the last 6 Christmas’ were joyful for both fans and the film fraternity thanks mainly to the top 2 Khans…
2 of the last 4 were horrific for fans and disastrous for the film fraternity- one was due to Farah Khans inept tribute to best friend Srk titled ‘Teesra Joker Khan’ and other was by our King with his rip off tribute to Big B titled ‘CON 2’….!

He made the Eid Release Grand by releasing Wanted. Nobody had cared about Eid Release before the Wanted Release. So, he should reap the benefits from what he has sown.

There was no need of it. SRK should chose his words very carefully as he is a superstar and his every words are analyzed by media and they put some extra masala in that to let him down.
But this is the problem with SRK, as he grown into a middle class family, he still have that mentality. That’s why he always speaks from heart.
Like his statement “whoever wants to come, they can come. Or I’m not going to force anyone”.
Some people may take it as his ego, but its not his ego. Its the typical middle class attitude, which we find in ourself as well,time to time. This is the reason,while others calculate each and every aspect before uttering a single word, where SRK speaks whatever comes into his mind.
But he has to be careful about the selection of his words in future.

Noone has the guts to clash with Salman and Aamir, because they are the BIGGEST. The are the LIONS of Bollywood, noone can clash with then today.
SRK is a small star so he easily gets clashed, even if he doesnt want it. Cry about it.

Agneepath is a non-festive release u loser. Festive release was only ambitious krrish 3 which did 244 crores despite getting less no.s of holidays, back to back last cricket match of legendary tendulkar before retirement,pre diwali release and poor music. And it did more collection than so called “back to back bbs” of our bhojpuri bhaijaan like tapori dabbang,crappy ready, bodyguard shera, ek tha joker, dabba2 and finally kock.
Agneepath released in 2012, did 121 crores with less no.s of screens. But bhai’s Jai ho released in 2014 with 3900 screens, but did only 114 crores. So called “stardom of biggest star” kahan gayi?

Of all the festivals Eid has least number of holidays.You have diwali holidays,christmas holidays but One holiday for Eid which by luck shd fall on releasing day otherwise it effects the business.So its an illusion Salman benfits from Eid ase toh har movie ko ek holiday mil hi jaati hai.
