In an interview with Hindustan Times, Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan has said that the preference given to ‘festive releases’ is stupid and uninteresting.
While his last non-festive release was ‘My Name Is Khan’ way back in 2010, Khan says “when I release a film, that should be a festival”.
Some excerpts from his interview:
No, it’s (Diwali) not my slot. As a matter of fact, I’ve stopped releasing films on festivals. I always tell everyone, ‘When I release a film, that should be a festival’.
Eid mein namaz padthe hai, Diwali mein puja karte hai (we read Namaz during Eid and do puja during Diwali). Now, it’s become all about releasing a film on a date. It’s stupid and uninteresting.
(I would) release a film the day it’s completed. Whoever wants to come, come, whoever doesn’t want to come, don’t come.
Khan’s upcoming release ‘Happy New Year’ releases on October 24 2014, a day after Diwali.

@soroop : In your dreamworld everything is possible. You seems to be a kid who doesnt know Salman’s filmography. You are talking as if you were the producer’s association head n refused to give Salman any work. He starred in 2 Hits & 1 Superhit (consecutive 3 successful movies) – Baaghi, Sanam Bewafa (super hit) & Pathar ke Phool. Even Kurbaan was a moderate success. Now the funniest thing is Srk gave Oh Darling !!! Yeh hai India before DDLJ & Raam-Jaane, Trimurti & English Babu Desi Mem (both flops) after DDLJ !!!!!! Stop moaning about KKhH, even if its excluded he has still given 8 grossers but if KJo & Srk doesnt have any issue then wth are you to object ?? Morons will not think logically rather keep ranting same thing again & again but by doing this it doesnt become a fact !!!!!!!!!
@hrithik. If I dunno abt Salman flopography then How could I be able to give u the list of Salman’s highest grosser’s? To know that Amisha patel is not getting any film offer I dont have to be a head of anything. After giving 1 Atbb, 2 soopoor hits, 1 hits and 1 modern hit and then becomming the biggest star ever and after that why the hell did he play second fiddle to Sanjay dutt? Infact Sanjay dutt and Madhuri were top star then, if it’s Salman hit Then 3 idiots is Sharman joshi and Madhavan hit, Dhoom 3 is Abishek bachan’s hit, isnt it? Salman has 8 grosser excluding KKHH! 5 of them were him in second fiddle, extended guest roles, actress taking full credit. Only 3 were highest grosser due to him. I explained that. It’s very cheap to cry for the highest grossers too in a guest role lol. So take it, Salman has 9 highest grossers, happy? lol
@soroop : As I said earlier keep assuming or dreaming whatever. When the entire industry credits Salman for those successful movies you are nothing to deny. In that case Deewana also not a Srk movie. In 1991, Salman was more popular than Sanjay Dutt though SD was senior to him. Especially there were more female fans n youngsters !!!!!! Saajan is not only SD or MD movie it was Salman movie as well. If you still want to rant same thing keep doing it !!!!!!!!
