At an event on Thursday, Shahrukh Khan spoke about the business of his films in the industry. The superstar said that filmmakers shouldn’t limit themselves by considering 100 crore as a benchmark for films. He said, he wants Hindi films to establish a footprint globally and collect as much as Avatar or at least 50% of it.
“I would want every film to do roaring business. If we have to establish a footprint globally, Rs.100 crore is too less. To think of it is a limitation by itself. People who don’t understand films and creativity in films, they put our work in these boxes (clubs). I would want our films to make as much money as Avatar. At least 50 percent of it” Khan told reporters.
While we understand what Shahrukh was trying to say, but realistically, Hindi films have a long way to go both content and audience wise to get even close to a film like Avatar.
The highest grossing Hollywood film of all time collected $2.79 billion (Rs 17,160 crore) when it released in 2009. The highest grossing Indian film is Dhoom 3 which amassed Rs 530 crore worldwide last year i.e about 3.15% of Avatar.
If the currency difference between rupees and dollars reduces then it is possible to collect as much as avatar..

Has he gone out of his mind….Hollywood movies earn in dollars and their business is global…Bollywood movies earn in rupees and business is strong only in India & to some extent in US & UK.
How will we earn half of Avatar by doing crap movies…You have to lift Bollywood to next level by making movies which are trully international….you have to come out of the routine romantic and masala action movies…make some thing different like Zindegi Na Milegi Dobara, Queen, 3 Idiots, kahanni, Special 26, Krish 3, Haider etc…
You have to also start using international stars in your production team (e.g. action director of Bang Bang) to make something different and of international standard…
SRK, except for his 2 movies Swades & Chak De India…nothing was really good….People say Bang Bang does not have logic..but in RNBDJ – Anushka does not recognize SRK in double role it seems – utter flop logic – but movie was super hit….Start thinking and doing differently rather than talking differently….

The highest grossers of bollywood is all almost masala movies.. So concentrate on making gud movies with some orignal stories and big budget then think of 500 cr

Bang bang is best example of great action with poor script (including direction, editing)

hes films doesn’t do business like Hollywood films. but his worth is no less then any Hollywood actors. who earns in $ so kudos to the 2nd Richest actor in the world. if this salman aamir if they 10 d3 also they can’t match srks worth becz they are worthless. shame on these bhojapuri actors like salmon aaamir Akshay etc etc
we should also consider PURCHASING POWER PARITY, that means if in USA you buy anything for 9 rupees the same thing you can buy in INDIA for 1 rupee, so effectively if AVATAR box office collection is
