Most Disappointing Films of 2009

2009 was a poor year with some epic big budget disasters. Movies that were expected to be classics, were thrashed by the critics and rejected outright by the audience. Here is our list of the Top 5 most disappointing Bollywood movies of 2009

5) Blue – Huge budget with stars allegedly being paid double salary.. all wasted on a film that completely lacked a plot. Filled with lame dialogues and a 50 year old Sanjay Dutt uncomfortably romancing the  sexy Lara Dutta, the film was a disappointment start to finish. The only saving grace were those underwater sequences, which many preferred watching on National Geographic. Released during Diwali, Blue opened to huge numbers, only to eventually witness a huge crash during its weekdays.

4) Kambakht Ishq – Akshay Kumar returned after 2 back to back failures and while Kambakht Ishq recovered its investment, the movie was a waste of time and money. Hollywood bigwigs Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards, Brandon Routh, Bollywood stunners Kareena Kapoor, Amrita Arora et al couldn’t save this tragically torturous film. Wonder what the makers were thinking?

3) Tasveer 8 x 10 – Accused of acting in far too many mindless entertainers and a overall lack of variety in the characters he portrays, Kumar’s biggest claim to critically acclaim turned out to be a damp squib. The film didn’t even manage a face saving opening at the box office.

2) What’s Your Rashee? – The Oscar nominated director of Lagaan and acclaimed films like Swades and Jodha Akbar, returned this time with a comedy starring Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra. The result? A clueless film that dragged on for hours and put most in theater into deep slumber. Certainly we expected more from Gowariker.

1) Delhi 6 – From the biggest stars like Hrithik Roshan to newbies like Ranbir Kapoor rejected the film, and after release we know exactly why. Fresh from the super success of Rang De Basanti, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi 6 was at worst, expected to watchable. Sadly, Mehra got it all wrong. Right from the story, direction, to the characterization and even the dialogues.

  • @nauman.if u dont like indicine u should not bother to visit here instead of telling indicine ki stop posting reviews.ok. u r a wannabe.giving better rating to a movie does not make anybody a great critic. nd how many times i had to tell u kambhagkt ishq gross was 42 not net. btw my 5 movie which disappointed me.. .blue..mamk…kambhaqt ishq ..cctc…kurban.. worst 5 movie cctc blue kambhqt ishq whats ur rashee nd mamk, best 5. 3idiot wanted devd gulal nd luck by chance-. nd m not a akki hater.i luv him.. nauman u better stick to ur flop blog..

  • Haiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Nauman what is ur view?

Bollywood’s first big rumour of 2010 is that Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar are going to reunite on screen in Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan.

The buzz is that Priyanka, riding high on the success of Kaminey, is keen on being cast opposite the Khiladi again. Akshay, you remember, was the hero who galvanized her into the big league at the start of her career with Andaaz, Aitraaz and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi before the two decided not to work together.

The buzz is that Priyanka has sent feelers to Farah for the female lead role in her film. The choreographer- director is herself said to be game for this hot-and-saleable pairing. And Akshay, who was recently asked if he had any problems working with Priyanka again, had replied, “I’d love to work with her… provided the right script comes along.”

While none of the three involved parties are willing to comment on the Akshay-Priyanka pairing in Tees Maar Khan, Farah did reluctantly say, “By mid-January we have to decide. It will either be an absolutely new girl or a very established actress… go do your math!”

  • Nauman 2days back u urself said after namste london all of akkis movie r pathetic, now stop crying like a kid….a mass masala movie dint require any critic rating if it is good.eg welcum heybaby wanted GAJNI..but if it bad even 5star rating cant save the film..GOT MY POINT..i dun read any reviews for masala movies coz they r not meant to be made for them..a movie like devd luck by chance rocket singh paa need gud rating to survive.indicine plz comment.. my funda..if a masala movie ll get bad rating it may be a succes or failure..if it get gud rating 100percent succes..if a offbeat nd less hypd movie get a gud rating it may be a suces or failure..but if it get poor rating 100percent flop…put any movie in that model u ll get 100percent accurate result.

  • Akshay Kumar “won’t charge a single penny for two of his films”

Trade circles say that Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar was reportedly signed for as high a fee as Rs 71 crore for a film, has had a change of mind.

Reliable market sources say that the entire completion cost of Akshay’s next two films –‘Khatta Meetha’ directed by Priyadarshan and ‘Tees Maar Khan’ directed by Farah Khan will reportedly not exceed Rs 35 crore.

According to one trade source the cost of making ‘Khatta Meetha’ and ‘Tees Maar Khan’ won’t include the actor’s fee.

The same source adds that when Akshay realised that his films ‘Chandni Chowk to China’, ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ and ‘Tasveer’ lost money because of his individual fee as an actor, he decided to make a market correction.

Having studied the current Bollywood trade scene, the actor has decided not to charge a single penny for his films.

However, Akki’s banner ‘Hari Om Productions’ is a co-producer of the films ‘Khatta Meetha’ and ‘Tees Maar Khan’.

The actor explains the logic behind this drastic move of not charging his market fee. He said that for both the films his fees will be Rs.0. If both films are hits, then the production house will stand to benefit by getting a part of the profits. If the film is average, the profit margin will automatically be reduced. And if the film flops, no one will lose money because the budget has been controlled. By not charging his personal remuneration as an actor, he has made sure that these films will at least romp home with no losses.

Trade sources say that the Akshay is being closely watched by all actors who have home productions.

Now Each AKSHAY movies will be SUPERHIT for sure….:) Way to go AKKI……:)

  • @REX– dude.. with d openings akki gets for each of his movies, hit will be sure with d above budget. in 2009 his movies (even if d quality was below d standards) suffered bcoz of d budget..;)

I do agree he has to choose a gud script from nw on, which am sure he would after watchin 3 Idiots, MNIK and some other aamir movies..;) but d problem being quality cinema n box office s not related always..

Anyways am sure akki will be back with Action replay n houseful but everythin depends on d time of d release…:)

1st i want to say that when u put the prediction for DDD 80 cr, i really liked u and i thought u r akki fan , theni found u r sallu fan but u dont like akki, i means u r geniun and neutral person and then i really feeled very good for u and i gave u a respect in my heart .
but now i feeled that u r trying to fight with me and so many times u r anti me , its ok we r here to discuss and in discussion never both parties thing same so , so many times me n u anti to each other, but i dont mind so many times i was against to indicine at the time of Kurbaan , DDD and now 3 Idiots but we were agree at the time of London Dreams , Tum mile , Jail , Paa and rocket singh.
now i dont want to fight with u or with indicine becuase i give u respect and indicine gave me honer when they put my Review of DDD in their main page i dont know did they do before for any other viewer or not even on my request they found trailer of Hera pheri , doesnt matter i wasnt that one which i asked but they tried for me it was really honer for me. i would conitued abt indicine in my next post now i need to talk to u.
about Kambakhht Ishq Net gross 1st week look at
    Box-Office Top5
Top 5: ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ 1st week all-India nett: Rs. 42 cr.
    – By Taran Adarsh, July 11, 2009 – 08:33 IST
Rank Film Producer Verdict Average per print (rs.) Last Week
1 Kambakkht Ishq Sajid Nadiadwala Fetched a hurricane-like start and recorded fabulous collections in its first 3 days. Monday onwards, the film did drop, but it was a normal drop at most places, but was more pronounced at places. 1st week nett: Rs. 42 cr approx. 8.5 lacs New
2 New York Aditya Chopra Hit 2,56,258 1
3 Paying Guests Raju Farooqui Flop 18,811 2

even indicine mentioned abt 42 cr . u can ask them. i know the diffrence between gross and net gross so dont tell me .
and about i said after namaste london akki’s every movie was pathetic , so plz check that post again i said after Namste London Akki didnt give any classic movie like 3 Idiots. i know i gave 4 star to DDD but not as a critic i gave 4 star for its full time entertainment , comedy, mess masala and akki n johny’s performances.
he got a good chance in Blue but Direction and script pull that movie down , 8 x 10 has also good idea but nagesh Kokonoor i dont know wht he did with that movie.
now i am hopefull that Vipul is good director he knows the how to make good movie and how to direct movie so i am hopeful he wont disappoint me , Sajid khan did good job in Heyy Babyy so may be housefull will also good movie, Khatta meetha is murder suspence with little bit fun like Bhulbhuliya, and critic liked BB even indicine gave it 4 star.
Patiala house has good idea but i m not sure that what will Nikhil do with the movie
Tees maar khan , farha did 2 movies and both were super hit so may be at this time she will repeat herself.
but i am hopefull with action replayy , housefull and khatta meetha.
and AR and KM can get critical acclaim as well.
and Amit yaar i really respect u if i said any thing bad abt u so plz i do appologise.
and when i wana die then i will grab ur girl friend , hahahaah

  • Agree with you Indicine team.. but some of the movies which u mentioned were not so bad movies.. 8×10 tasveer was quite good, but the ending was stupid. I saw What’s your Rashee 2 days ago on a dvd and I was really surprised that this movie was directed by a big director who’s Ashoutosh Ghowaricker!!!!! how come a good director who did 3 or 4 good movies like Jodha Akbar, Swades, Lagan will do such a movie?!! The negative and the worst point in the movie was Harman Bhaweja.. he could not act ( he must leave bollywood.. he did 3 movies and he could never improve or do any better in his performance.. I thought he’ll be good in future after watching him in LS2050.. but no.. he’s not.. and also his look.. he looked good only in LS2050.. black hair doesn’t suit him.. he’s so boring in his acting) that’s the biggest point for movie to flop I asume.. secondly.. the direction was poor.. the only good thing in this movie which encourage anyone to watch is Priyanka Chopra’s acting.. she did so well in all the the characters in this movie.. that’s the only good thing about this movie.

And.. in my opinion and after watching Rang de Basanti that the director of this movie is not great in his work.. yeah.. the movie worked and that’s because of Aamir Khan’s name and fame and because of the funny scenes in the movie.. but for me.. the direction was not that superb.. mind blowing at all! see his next movie Delhi 6.. if he was good he’d never make such a crap movie!! Oh.. I know.. everyone would say now: you didn’t like RDB?!! how come you didn’t like it?!! Well I’ve my own eyes and senses to judge any director and his movies.. but u ppl, when someone reaches the top.. then u blindly love any work of his.. right?!!
