One of the most anticipated trailers of the year was launched yesterday. There was no launch event or media interaction, but the makers decided to launch the trailer on the Star TV Network, followed by the internet (both at 8:57 PM yesterday).
The response, like every other ’much-awaited biggie’, was mixed. When the expectations are high, the chances of disappointing the audience is higher – and that seems to be the case with Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Mohenjo Daro too.
We asked 20 people in the trade (including theatre owners, distributors, trade veterans etc) for their feedback on the trailer. The response was mixed to negative – 5 of them said the trailer was ‘good’, 13 said it was average (under-whelming, disappointing, something missing were the words used) and the remaining 2 said poor. It needs to be pointed out that none of these people were in any which way associated with UTV, Hrithik Roshan or Ashutosh Gowariker. Opinions were from known and unbiased sources.
The audience response falls in mixed to good category. In our poll on Twitter, 36% people voted for ‘outstanding’, 20% voted for ‘good’, 25% voted for ‘average’ and 19% voted for ‘poor’. On Youtube, the percentage of people who have ‘liked’ the trailer is around 85% which is average. Usually, films that score 95% or more likes against dislikes is considered to be excellent, 90% or more is good, while anything less than 85% is average. (Read article: Trailer rating of 2016 films)
These are not the only two ways that we categorise the ‘audience response’. It’s a combination of many things which includes Twitter polls, Youtube likes vs dislikes ratio, feedback from real audience and even our own comments section (feedback from the known ‘neutral’ people is obviously given more importance).
For our own rating, we’d go with 7 on 10 for the trailer.
IndicineFBO: We start with 15.4 crore as the first day prediction for Mohenjo Daro. The film needed a strong trailer – which would’ve probably also made the makers of ‘Rustom’ think of averting a clash, but the response so far hasn’t really been overwhelmingly positive. Certainly not in the ‘Bajirao Mastani’ league, the trailer of which shifted the pre-release balance from a one-sided clash to an interesting one with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale.

I have always liked HR over so called OverHyped Khans cuz his hard work is visible.According to me #JodhaAkbar was d film that turned d table for HR in terms of Acting nd since #MohenjoDaro is d Coming back of d Epic Jodi that made JODHA AKBAR famous in every household my Expectation frmthis JODI nd specially Aashutosh Gowarikar aws HUGE. #MohenjoDaro Teaser was Very Good if you talk about catching Public Eye and was very well appreciated by one n all but if u look at it creatively u wld know that makers are not prepared and has released it Early due to MohenjoDaro VS Rustom Clash .
Coming to the #MohenjoDaroTrailer I was expecting nothing less than a MAGIC on Celluloid that takes me back to an ERA never seen before with a refreshing Story and Excellent CGI nd VFX as its made on a Collosal Budget of 120Cr+ and has been made with Much Reserach and time Spent .
According to me Trailer was Okayiiish . Hrithik Roshan is Amazing as an actor ..His Committment towards his Character is Exemplery and his chemistry with Pooja is Good but the VFX and CGI is a big let Down . I am feeling more let down frm Aashutosh Gowarikar .
I feel Makers of #Mohenjodaro were in a Hurry to release d trailer and were of d View to Sabotage #Rustom by Over d Top Marketing Strategy.Its okk to be aggressive but only when your product is Ready.It seems like the trailer is Half Baked…Narration doesnt look impressive and Sets are way too ordinary as compared to a big Budget Period Drama. I am 200% Sure Mohenjodaro film wld be much much better than what is shown in the Trailer.Instead of sabotaging others one shd concentrate on Quality of one’s Product. Akshay Kumar is on a Golden run with 2 Outright Superhits in 4 Months time and d Current Fav. of Classes Makers of #Rustom decided not to shift the release as Its made on 35-40Crs Controlled Budget as Compared to 120Cr+ Massive Budget of Mohenjodaro. This Resulted in makers of Mohenjodaro take a aggresive and Fast approach towards releasing Teaser> Trailer that ended up in a wrong decision.It was Evident as Hrithik Unfollowed Akshay Kumar [ Rustom Star] on twitter just few min before Releasing #Mohenjodaro trailer.
I hope it would be more of a Classic battle this time as i expect d best of Mohenjodaro to come in next few weeks and #Rustom having NeerajPandey stamp on it..it also shd be a Classic Thriller.Lets hope its a battle of two Classics that wld be remember for a longer time.

Yeah looks like a fair assessment by taking Rustom into account.May be 15-18Crs on day 1.Music is not going to be huge as it is a period movie and it will not alter the collections in a big way.

Did you consider the star power of Hrithik before analyzing it? his fans will gladly accept the movie and the advance booking will always be like as high as it has been for Hrithik. Ticket Price will be higher than that of Bang Bang and people will jump on it because it’s after 2 years of Bang Bang. None of the trailer of Ashuosh movie was accepted gladly but those films worked well based on positive word of mouth. I am sure the stroy will be no less than the quality of Lagaan and Jodha Akbar. In fact, it should be better. I assume the lifetime collection of this movie will no less than be 200 crore.
Everything about the trailor is inaccurate,first the vfx which is terrible to say the least ,the costumes,hello no silk was invinvented at that time,but the heroine pooja hegde is shown wearing modern dress with feathers,the people were mostly dark or brown skinned,the people were peace loving but in the trailors they are fighting ,even a gladiator like scene is incorporated ,much of the language of that period is incomprehensible but in the movie they are shown speaking chaste Hindi ,a little bit of Sindhi in the accent would have made it more closer,then there is a French kiss between hrithik and pooja hegde,everything about the trailors is grossly underwhelming I agree cinematic liberties are undertaken but it the same routine love story of a hero,heroine and a loud villain ,why did they choose mohenjodaro as a backdrop and if they have chosen at least be authentic ,I feel this time ashutosh has completely messed it up judging from trailors hope that the movie is good but something was missing
I certainly couldn’t understand why people are complaining on VFX? VFX was visible in only 3 scenes and were perfectly created. Why some people are spreading lies over VFX?? crocodile seemed to be a real one while it was created with CGI technology. Water destroying the dam looks as real as it should be, and then the bird eye view of the city was convincingly real as well. These are the only 3 areas where VFX played its part. The city was created in a set. Some are from real location and some are placed in a set. So people who are saying that the city looks cartoonish are nothing but liars! these are most probably the but hurt SRK fans who are doing their best to take down the beauty of this movie for a revenge associated with the failure of the movie Dilwale and Fan.
You are not watching Mughal Empire or Greek Civilization or Roman empire that you will find the city with full of beautiful designs and eye catching costumes. The city has been recreated the same way as it was in 2016 BC. For the authenticity of this claim. Please check the documentary in Youtube. You will rather be amazed by the fact how they have chosen places that resembles totally with Mohenjo Daro city. I can’t talk about costumes because there is not much information about how the dresses would look like during that ere. But the coins that Hrithik was seen to be holding in the first part of the trailer was exactly the same coins that people in Mohenjo Daro used to use. I don’t know if they are coins or something else but I can tell you the pictures in the coin or the locket whatever it is was totally the same. Mohenjo Daro is a village alike city with cows and horses and those have been correctly shown in the movie as well.
All I can say that this is not a fictional or fantasy movie, it’s movie that shows that was actually there in Mohenjo Daro. Some people are pretending to be the expert of Mohenjo Daro civilization without reading and seeing the documentaries of it. Do a 52 minutes homework at least before you talk shit about this movie
I expected an overwhelming fantasy drama with a sweeping scale but it turns out to be another revenge drama no match with bahubali which was epic ,this trailor completely falls flat,it is long and boring hope the film is not a bore like the trailors,ashutosh is a good director who has directed some really good movies like lagaan,swades and jodha Akbar.
