One of the most anticipated trailers of the year was launched yesterday. There was no launch event or media interaction, but the makers decided to launch the trailer on the Star TV Network, followed by the internet (both at 8:57 PM yesterday).
The response, like every other ’much-awaited biggie’, was mixed. When the expectations are high, the chances of disappointing the audience is higher – and that seems to be the case with Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Mohenjo Daro too.
We asked 20 people in the trade (including theatre owners, distributors, trade veterans etc) for their feedback on the trailer. The response was mixed to negative – 5 of them said the trailer was ‘good’, 13 said it was average (under-whelming, disappointing, something missing were the words used) and the remaining 2 said poor. It needs to be pointed out that none of these people were in any which way associated with UTV, Hrithik Roshan or Ashutosh Gowariker. Opinions were from known and unbiased sources.
The audience response falls in mixed to good category. In our poll on Twitter, 36% people voted for ‘outstanding’, 20% voted for ‘good’, 25% voted for ‘average’ and 19% voted for ‘poor’. On Youtube, the percentage of people who have ‘liked’ the trailer is around 85% which is average. Usually, films that score 95% or more likes against dislikes is considered to be excellent, 90% or more is good, while anything less than 85% is average. (Read article: Trailer rating of 2016 films)
These are not the only two ways that we categorise the ‘audience response’. It’s a combination of many things which includes Twitter polls, Youtube likes vs dislikes ratio, feedback from real audience and even our own comments section (feedback from the known ‘neutral’ people is obviously given more importance).
For our own rating, we’d go with 7 on 10 for the trailer.
IndicineFBO: We start with 15.4 crore as the first day prediction for Mohenjo Daro. The film needed a strong trailer – which would’ve probably also made the makers of ‘Rustom’ think of averting a clash, but the response so far hasn’t really been overwhelmingly positive. Certainly not in the ‘Bajirao Mastani’ league, the trailer of which shifted the pre-release balance from a one-sided clash to an interesting one with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale.
NOTE: The final IndicineFBO prediction is only made on the day before the release of the film (August 11th in Mohenjo Daro’s case). The FBO will change depending on the response to the music, song promos and other promotional activities. The music and the promos that follow will now be the key for Mohenjo Daro.

I would say, it is too early to say, and as far as Trade is concerned, they don’t know a damn thing. They are only concerned about money.
The same trade was going ga ga over Dilwale and how it will break all records. What happened?
I am not a fan of anyone in this movie, but if someone says that Trade says this and that, then i don’t believe it.
As far as the trailer is concerned, yes, it has lots of historical inaccuracies, whether you may accept it or not. If the director justifies in the movie story telling is something we have to wait and see.
But, the thing is that, if the movie and its story clicks then no matter what the “intelligent critics” or “historical lovers” says, people will lap it up with both hands.
As far as characterisation is concerned, then none of Ashutosh’s movies after Lagaan has even come close to being brilliant.
The reason is only one difference in all other movies – Aamir Khan.
If you have seen the interviews and making of Lagaan, you will notice that even the “posture” of Bhuvan (Aamir’s character) was discussed in detail. That’s how much dedication the guy puts in.
All his other films have faded because Ashutosh never went in to so much character development or presentation, and the stars in those film are not much in to it. Srk, Hro and others do not interfere in the movie making. Srk will go all out in helping promoting it like no other one can, and Hro also gives his best as far as his character is concerned, but nothing beyond.
So, the fate of this movie completely depends on how it connects with the audience. If it does it will be a big hit. And once again Trade’s view is simply crap.
Indicine’s rating for MohenjoDaro trailer is fair! I gave it 4/5 (may be I was a bit generous). 3.5 /5 or 7/10 is a very unbiased rating.
Also the crocodile was not VFX….they made a huge crocodile prototype reminiscent of a real one and used it for the movie..it was not CGI or VFX and reiterates my earlier point that Ashutosh is not over lenient on VFX. Just recall how S.S. Rajamouli used the CGI Bison when he introduced Rana’s character in Bahubali…that is the difference between the directors SSR and Ashutosh…one has huge scale of VFX and other is less VFX oriented and more focused on story telling..so the comparisons between the two doesn’t make any sense.

I don’t think indicine is trying to put the movie down…they have said clearly that the prediction of 15.4cr on the opening day is based on the trailer reactions and they have their own way of doing it and they have been mostly successful with it. Give credit where it is due. Even for Dishoom you can see that their earlier prediction was 15 cr and now it is 9 cr. And coming back to MD, if the next trailer becomes better than the first one and the songs become hits that number will keep increasing…in my opinion Indicine are doing a pretty good job with their articles and stats which is evident by the traffic on this site compared to other bollywood sites. The opening weekend of Mohenjo daro will be around 50 crore. Word of mouth will be very important. Hrithik is a better actor than Salman and shahrukh!
according to me ,krrish 3 was released on diwali ,it was not released on pre-diwali release due to which its a 25 + cr. opening
hritik starpower is nothing in front of akki
singh is bling is released on 1st oct. and akki give a 20 + crore opening on non holiday
Accept that the MJD trailer was below average, both from production value point and historical accuracy point.
Mohenjodaro trailer is one of the most pathetic historical trailers ever.
1. The dialect and language used is 100% exactly the same Hindi we use today. Couldn’t the makers hire few language experts to teach the actors to speak with a different dialect?
2. Iron was not discovered back then!
3. The clothes worn by the locals should be simple one-piece, not the stiched clothes shown in the trailer.
Aashutosh has been pretentious, he doesn’t have the talent of Rajmouli or SLB, who put a lot of hardwork and creativity in their films. Hrithik has been extremely lazy, he plays almost the same character from Agneepath.
Mohenjodaro deserves to be a Disaster, it will teach Aashutosh and Hrithik a lesson.
No doubt another good film after FAN is facing little negativity.

Btw though I can agree that there is very less vfx compared to bahubali has in MD.
But bahubali is an extreme low grade classless movie where loads of illogical sequences have given.

how can a whole movie’s complete concept can be revealed through trailer.
If so then bb,pk,bm like movies were seeming like disasters from trailer.while DILWALE,BANG BANG like movies were seeming like ATBB from the trailers.
Actually peoples expects sudden entertainment from tha trailer from beginning to end.but they’re not aware of actual story which they’ll watch only at theatres.

Good or bad but people are surely talking about this movie. This has been one of the most talked about trailers definitely in the recent times. Even the trailer review article is about to cross 200 comments which I am sure will be a record at article.
Already there is too much excitement around this movie. I an sure it will open to extraordinary numbers when it releases. Hrithik is a huge superstar and he will prove it yet again.
If non hrithik fans can enjoy masala movies of their respective stars like Dabang (Salman), CE (SRK), Singham (Ajay), Ghajini (Amir), Rowdy Rathore (Akshay) in which many cinematic liberties are taken and also not are completely logical, then why make helluva over few historical inaccuracies if any.
Even there was a discussion on whether or not the people french kissed then. Lol. Some have already declared that pooja is poor choice and criticism on hrithiks dialogue delivery etc. Way too harsh.
Anyways let the movie release and Hrithik will once again show how huge a superstar he is. A big opening hrithik will guarantee and then the content obviously will be a deciding factor.
@ANK and @Thug, a lot of people are not realising that a 15 crore opening for a non-holiday release with clash, is still huge. Same level as Housefull 3 with clash!

Yes not to blame indicine on this article…considering the clash, this movie will make 100 crores in 3 n half days , 200 crores in 10 days and may touch 300 crores in 3 weeks….this is a family movie and hrithik’s comeback movie….so don’t underestimate the collections…

The opening day prediction of 15.4 CR is less in my opinion . I agree many people did not liked the trailer or found it average . Many people are criticising the trailer as if it is the worst trailer of 2016 . Mohenjo Daro has generated the impact on TV, YouTube and Indicine . I don’t think Indicine is being biased but I want MD to exceed everybody’s expectations both in terms of Content as well as Box Office .

I mean such kind of comments are normally given by those who try hard to bring someone down . you won’t find any kind of logic in their comments! i saw this trailer and straight away i was hugely disappointed. May be i was expecting something huge. But at least it should have been like must watch on big screen movie. Unfortunately it is not. It is something which can easily be seen on a mobile or computer if audience have time. No originality. Nothing new. Same old stuff. It would probably be competing with Bombay Velvet for biggest disaster till date.
@indicine absolutely true 15 cr with clash is realistic which is huge on non holiday. My prediction 20 cr for solo release. I don’t think rustom will release on same day as there is no news about it other than release date. Is trailer releasing in next few days?
Indicine, i guess you people have been too quick to predict the FBO in this case coz this prediction can go HORRIBLY wrong. What is the use of giving FBO numbers so early when it has to change number of times with each passing song and trailer of the movie???
Its a pretty useless excercise in such initial stages when even the clash is not confirmed.
If FBO is to be given , then make it a poiint to give it when it has least possibles chances of getting changed.
