One of the most anticipated trailers of the year was launched yesterday. There was no launch event or media interaction, but the makers decided to launch the trailer on the Star TV Network, followed by the internet (both at 8:57 PM yesterday).
The response, like every other ’much-awaited biggie’, was mixed. When the expectations are high, the chances of disappointing the audience is higher – and that seems to be the case with Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Mohenjo Daro too.
We asked 20 people in the trade (including theatre owners, distributors, trade veterans etc) for their feedback on the trailer. The response was mixed to negative – 5 of them said the trailer was ‘good’, 13 said it was average (under-whelming, disappointing, something missing were the words used) and the remaining 2 said poor. It needs to be pointed out that none of these people were in any which way associated with UTV, Hrithik Roshan or Ashutosh Gowariker. Opinions were from known and unbiased sources.
The audience response falls in mixed to good category. In our poll on Twitter, 36% people voted for ‘outstanding’, 20% voted for ‘good’, 25% voted for ‘average’ and 19% voted for ‘poor’. On Youtube, the percentage of people who have ‘liked’ the trailer is around 85% which is average. Usually, films that score 95% or more likes against dislikes is considered to be excellent, 90% or more is good, while anything less than 85% is average. (Read article: Trailer rating of 2016 films)
These are not the only two ways that we categorise the ‘audience response’. It’s a combination of many things which includes Twitter polls, Youtube likes vs dislikes ratio, feedback from real audience and even our own comments section (feedback from the known ‘neutral’ people is obviously given more importance).
For our own rating, we’d go with 7 on 10 for the trailer.
IndicineFBO: We start with 15.4 crore as the first day prediction for Mohenjo Daro. The film needed a strong trailer – which would’ve probably also made the makers of ‘Rustom’ think of averting a clash, but the response so far hasn’t really been overwhelmingly positive. Certainly not in the ‘Bajirao Mastani’ league, the trailer of which shifted the pre-release balance from a one-sided clash to an interesting one with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale.

Indicine has always been reluctant to even publish news about hrithik roshan. They only know khans. And lemme tell you one thing indicine, my prediction for mohen jo daro without clash is 25 crore. Lets see whats on the cards now. If there is a clash its gonna be 22 crore. Even clashes increase the psychological buzz around audience, dont forget that. Bazirao mastani got that kind of hype only because it got free promotions throuth the comparison with dilwale. So just because there is a clash it doesnt mean the collection will differ that much. So without much ado lets wait for august 2. Fingers crossed. Mohenjo Daro 25 crore. Come on indicine. Its Ar rahman’s music with the realistic actions far from south’s exaggerated mumbo jumbos. And you might have missed the end part of the trailer. THE FLOOD aka the destruction of Mohen jo daro civilization. Its obviously a tragic climax. Indian audience love these ingredients.

certainly couldn’t understand why people are complaining on VFX? VFX was visible in only 3 scenes and were perfectly created. Why some people are spreading lies over VFX?? crocodile seemed to be a real one while it was created with CGI technology. Water destroying the dam looks as real as it should be, and then the bird eye view of the city was convincingly real as well. These are the only 3 areas where VFX played its part. The city was created in a set. Some are from real location and some are placed in a set. So people who are saying that the city looks cartoonish are nothing but liars! these are most probably the but hurt SRK fans who are doing their best to take down the beauty of this movie for a revenge associated with the failure of the movie Dilwale and Fan.
You are not watching Mughal Empire or Greek Civilization or Roman empire that you will find the city with full of beautiful designs and eye catching costumes. The city has been recreated the same way as it was in 2016 BC. For the authenticity of this claim. Please check the documentary in Youtube. You will rather be amazed by the fact how they have chosen places that resembles totally with Mohenjo Daro city. I can’t talk about costumes because there is not much information about how the dresses would look like during that ere. But the coins that Hrithik was seen to be holding in the first part of the trailer was exactly the same coins that people in Mohenjo Daro used to use. I don’t know if they are coins or something else but I can tell you the pictures in the coin or the locket whatever it is was totally the same. Mohenjo Daro is a village alike city with cows and horses and those have been correctly shown in the movie as well.
All I can say that this is not a fictional or fantasy movie, it’s movie that shows that was actually there in Mohenjo Daro. Some people are pretending to be the expert of Mohenjo Daro civilization without reading and seeing the documentaries of it. Do a 52 minutes homework at least before you talk shit about this movie

disappointed a bit. it seems like veer 2. the sets are similar to veer starring salman khan. didn’t expected this from Ashu and Hrithik combo. I hope this one doesn’t turn out to be veer 2 in terms of box office as well.
People were expecting it to be a bahubhali/jodha akbar type movie
But this is a old Era story so the expectations of people were wrong that’s why they are disappointed with the trailer coz it’s not showing any war scene
But when watch the trailer second time by not assuming it bahubhali type movie you will love it, same happened to me, I was too expecting it a bahubhali type movie and disappointed when I watched trailer but when I watch it 2nd time it was so pleasent experience

Well…Brave prediction Indicine and I won’t blame your prediction coz the response for the trailer has been mixed to decent. Although I would still go with an opening of more than 20cr if the screen count is somewhere between 3200-3500
I think UTV missed a trick here. Yes the move to release the trailer across Star Network was a masterstroke but this kind of movie definitely needed a teaser before the trailer to give the audience a perspective of what to expect from the movie much before the big trailer. And they also should have introduced the other main characters like the way they did for Hrithik and Pooja.
Now personally I don’t give a damn to the people comparing MD with Bahubali (especially) and Bajirao Mastani. Here is why:-
S.S Rajamouli is well known for doing VFX in a huge canvas and a major chunk of his production budget is utilized for that. Bahubail for instance has a production budget of 240 cr (for both parts combined) and the lead actors’ salary all together won’t cross 50cr (That includes, Prabhas, Rana, Anushka, Tamannah, Satyaraj, Ramya and Nasser). So he has close to 200cr at his disposal to spent on VFX / CGI and many other things. Mohenjo Daro on the other hand is having a production budget of around 120-130 cr (from what I read from various sources) out of which 50cr+ is the salary of Hrithik Roshan. And unlike Bahubali where the director + genre was the USP Mohenjo Daro’s USP is the lead actor + genre. So if you deduct Hrithik’s salary from the budget of Mohenjo Daro the budget of the movie shrinks to somewhere around 70-80 cr. And as we all know Ashutosh is not a director who is over lenient on VFX / CGI like S.S Rajamouli. He is more focused on the story telling aspect for which he doesn’t need a huge budget, He just has to re-create the sets and clothes of the specific era.
And I can only laugh when reading comments of people saying that they expected this movie to show how the civilization of Mohenjo daro started and its development. Lol, come on guys this is a commercial film not a documentary about the Mohenjo Daro civilization. From the beginning itself the movie was touted as an action-love-adventure-revenge-epic genre so which of these are missing in the trailer?
Now since the trailer didn’t make the desired impact it will be interesting to see what will be UTV’s strategy from here onwards. But as I said the USP is Hrithik Roshan and all eyes will be on him to really make this into a biggie and that too without any real assistance of big holidays.
and I don’t think anyone has to blame Indicine here for their prediction. It is only based on the first trailer…now possibly i or 2 trailers more will be released and the music videos will be out..if those turns out to be better than the first trailer then obviously their prediction will go up….

The more I’m searching about MohenjoDaro, the more I’m liking the trailer for its authenticity and historical accuracy, be it costumes, sets, statues, bath pool, trade coins and small details like posture of dancing girl, as we saw in Pooja Hegde’s poster. The archaeologist who has 35 years of experience doing research on IVC has assisted Ashutosh and it is quite visible in the trailer. I’m getting more and more confident that it will be even better than Jodhaa Akbar.
It’s quite sad to see some so called pseudo intellectuals have suddenly become archaeologists and are commenting about inaccuracies in the trailer without actually doing any research. If you people actually do some research, you will find how everything has been close to perfect from Pooja Hegde’s poster to trailer.

Troy was named it after its excavation. And yeah people are talking about the actress wardrobe. Seriously? What about helen in d movie troy ? Troy is much ancient than mohenjo daro in terms of timeline, but still you could see the dress used in troy. And last but not the least Mohenjo daro is not a documentary. Its a movie centripetal to a specific story to b told with the background of love and revenge.

And talking about the trailer, it was ready much before according to the reports. But Hrithik didn’t want to reveal the trailer so early because he was not too happy with the cuts!

But these are not Srkfans, but mostly the Salman fans and Akshay fans who are trying their best to spread negativity. Ironically they are talking about quality of a film. The former losers went gaga over Sultan trailer and the latter were praising Housefull3 like anything.
Obviously feedbacks are appreciable, but I am not expecting a unbiased person to find the trailer “bad”.
