MNIK opens across all multiplexes in Mumbai

Update on MNIK’s Mumbai release.

SRK’s My Name Is Khan, which has opened to a fantastic response all over the country, has now opened across all multiplexes in Mumbai according to NDTV, a popular television news channels.

The Shiv Sena threat, which helped create enough hype – not to mention free publicity across all television channels, seems to have only worked in favor of the Karan Johar directed film.

With Rave reviews and positive word-of-mouth, MNIK is expected to shatter box-office records over the weekend.

  • Shahrukh Khan’s production house attacked in Mumbai!
    Friday, February 12, 2010
Shah Rukh Khan’s production company’s office near Bandra was attacked by Shiv Sainiks who’ve also started stone pelting in several parts of Mumbai and are moving for a Mumbai shutdown to protest the release of the actor’s “My Name Is Khan” here Friday.

Police said that some people came and pelted stones at Shah Rukh’s Red Chilliz Entertainment where police had deployed security since the past few days.

Shiv Sainiks have also attacked on Friday evening some cinema halls screening the movie including Amar in Govandi, and Ashish in Chembur, as well as public and private buses in Chembur, Ghatkopar, Andheri, Jogeshwari and Parel areas of the city.

Groups of Sainiks went around several parts of the city and are enforcing a shutdown of shops and commercial establishments, including in Vikhroli, Parel, Sion, Chembur, Mahim, Goregaon Jogeshwari and Borivli areas.

A showroom of Hyundai, one of Khan’s sponsors has also been attacked.

    Khan is away from India.

Cant believe people can go to such an extent to get their movie publicized and get sympathy.

I have lost my respect i’ve had for him.

  • @ Kaustav Ghosh

We ain’t talking about it being good or bad.
    Its about being ethical.
He is not at all ethical by the way he is promoting it.

No doubt that he is a gr8 business person but this is not a right way to do it.
It might be legal but getting sympathy from the audience is not the right thing to do.

    @ Hina

where do u live? Pak or overseas?

  • Lol idk who he is … i was just giving him my opinion as in what i thought is right.
If Shiv Sena did what they did if they wanted to then they are wrong but if someone asks them to do it then its the person who asks is wrong.
And i hate shiv sena for doing this but they are not the main culprit.
i wish they publish a conspiracy theory behind all this. i’d love to watch it.

  • as expected movie was good but this incident proves that this was a publicity stunt .

this is what karan and srk wants that whole media starts to promote the film infact by faking the news includING BOX OFFICE INDIA. TOI saying all the shows for weekend are booked in delite cinema which is not all shows on sunday have seats.

they are saying that no film has done such business on delite cinema . what a lie just 20-25days ago when VEER release from thursday onwards its was cleear that all the shows for fri sat sunday are full both delite cinema and book my shows have shahded them grey on thursday onwards.

i know why BOI was saying that single screens are good too reason is simple they want to show 11-12cr for day one but due to some initial hiccups in mumbai the BOI became afraid that film may now not touch even 10cr so to make it possible they starts to shhow that single screens in delhi and kolkata are superstrong but reality is diff. most of the single screen theatres are showing 60-65%collections.
which is clear from mumbai singlescreen owners statement that they collect 65%on day one

  • AND YES INDICINE YOUR INFO IS WRONG.

MNIK HAS RELEASED ON 34 MULTIPLEXES OUT OF 63 AND SINGLE SCREENS-ONLY 9 SINGLE SCREENS HAVE RELEASE THE FILM AND THEY ARE RECORDING 30-50%COLLECTION.
INDICINE PLS DONT DELETE THIS COMMENT YOU CAN VERIFY WITH YOUR SOURCE.

LOOK I AM IN SUPPORT OF SRK AGAINST BAL THACKREY BUT WILL NOT PUBLICIZE THE FILM AS MEDIA IS TRYING TO DO. I HAVE ALREADY GIVEN THE EX OF DELITE CINEMA . MULTIPLEX I DO AGREE IS RUNNING CLOSE TO 80% BUT NOT ON 90-100% AS REPORTED BY SOME TV CHANNELS. I THINK MEDIA IN ORDER TO INCREASE THEIR TRPS AND TO DOWNPLAY SHIVSENA AND MNS ARE SAYING AND EXAGRETTING THE FIGURES AND MANY SITES LIKE BOI ARE HELPING THEM. BECAUSE I LIVE IN DELHI TOO AND SINGLE SCREENS CANT BE SAID GOOD ITS AVG AND MULTIPLEXES ARE GOOD BUT NOT EXCELLENT

  • plz indicine try to contact your source . i swears my mom that my figures are not wrong plz verify my figures.

my father worked in media and he has named four five channels and print media are just desperate to make this film a succes . srk fans plz dont abuse me but the bigger motive of media is that they wants to end BJP-SHIVSENA in maharasthra and this film is used as a mean to demolish bjp and shivsena(though i dont believe in shivsena) but they want to sep bjp-shivsena so that cong and ncp will be the undisputed king of maharastra. the srk fans you are living in hype and illusion you are happy because media are saying a bumper start but he real game is played behind the screen( THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE WATCHED RANN CAN UDERSTAND THIS). any one who lives in delhi plz go out and check single screens like batra golcha abhishek delite. the man at cinema will tell the real difference between THE COLLECTION OF VEER AT SINGLE SCREENS AND MNIK AT SAME SCREENS. EVEN IN PAPERS MOST OF THE STATEMENTS ARE OF MULTIPLEX OWNER, AND THAT TOO BADHA CHADHA KE.
so plz sk fans first go and check the cinemas and dont say just sitting and watching papers or channels

  • Good to see that mnik opened to good responce. I do not like mnik type of movies and i am not a fan of srk either, yet I wanted this film to be hit just because i do not like shiv sena theory. A film should be given every chance of being released at every place. So, controversy actually helped kjo and srk.
But I am furious about the reportings on indian news channels. For last seven days, they are just showing one news only and that is mnik. In a country where we are living with lots of problems, should a film is given so much weightage. Did a star bacame so big that they forgot their actual duty of showing actual news. Why the hell media channels and maharastra govt prompting the film like anything. Let audience decide the fate of a film, not media. It is not the duty to media and govt to promote a film.
And, I was shocked when I today saw a program on a leading news channel, “badshah bada ya shanshah”. When all the bollywood is behind kjo and srk in this controversy (including archrival salman), what is the meaning of such type of programs. I can recall, after super success of 3i, a program named “idiot puche ab bolo badshah” was shown. A few years back when salman has give hits like mpkk, pertner, no entry, one of a news channel shown a program “salman ne ki sharukh ki chutti”.
What they are trying to show. Let artisr remain artist, dont make them god.

  • the biggest reason guys for doubt over the figures of BOX OFFICE INDIa is that a film(MNIK) which has 40%dialouges in english doing well at single screens is just looks like a joke. those srk fans cannot claim that srk is very popular on single screens because even his masala film OSO did not get vey good response at single screens.
this makes me conclude one thing that before mumbai problem they would show avg business at single screens but due to limited release at mumabi they try to manipulate the figures at single screens to make the film a very big succes. indicine i know you will agree with my facts most of the critics will give thumbs up as they have given 5stars to film but even believing that single screens are 65%is difficult and the cinema in my locality is recording 50-55%collection so maybe multiplexes may be good but single screens are acting just to make up the loss of revenues which may have come from mumbai multiplexes,

even now many single screens in mumbai do not open because of poor response to film at single screens.

this is the best evidence that why some single screens have opened and why many of them not because of the dissapointing collections

  • RAJESH you are living in that same belief we cannot call the opening of MNIK good it is average and yes it is difficult for aam aadmi to understand the politics so its not possible for you that medai is playing a big game .

  • Nitesh,
I know that film’s business is not that good as being claimed by media, that’s why i use the word good, not extraordinary or bumper.
Now a true fact, yesterday, I was talking to my elder sister who have seen this movie in a multiplex in jaipur. As she did not make any advance booking, i asked her whether she was able to get the ticket, and she replied easily. Although, she told me that hall was nearly full, mind the word, nearly full not 100%.

  • pity on u frends… u all r trying hard to make the film flop by spreading negative word…but sad for u that the film is opened fantastically and the word of mouth is positive…atleast accept now tat SRK is the king… any box office wil prove it….

  • vinshal you may be happy in living in dreams which are propelled by media but the truth is not that what you are seeing on media channels.
i am not spreading negative word but we are saying that film business is not that good which is shown by media.

tell me vinshal do we are not living in india i went to see the film at fun laxmi nagar occupancy was good but not 100% as claimed by media.
similarly my friend watched it at swarna cinema(single screen) nd the occupancy was poor .

try to understand vinshal can you believe a film having 40%dialouges in english to even get 60%opening at single screens not at all but BOI are showing 80% which can be uderstand that they want to make the figure which is lost due to limited release of mnik in mumbai infact at single screen mnik is pathetic. it drops even more today at single screen

  • Fully planned Cheap publicity stunt for sympathy:

I remember the dialouge from Akki of movie Ajnabee
    EVERYTHING IS PLANNED

same Karan did at time of Wake up sid !!
    same procedure but long procedure
what a shame to srk shitt
    totlaly bullshit

  • Vinshal
Very well said vishal. Mnik is rocking everywhere wheather it is single screen or multiplexes. These people are desperate and jelous nothing they can do except doing these rubish things. Mnik is now set to break all records.

  • Box Office: MNIK opens in half of Mumbai, at 75%, running 30% in interiors, no release in Pune still
    Friday, February 12, 2010

Trade Publicists may be declaring 100% openings for MNIK but if it’s opened 100%, it’s certainly not in the country of India where it is more noise than actual box office weight at this point.

In fact My Name is Khan did not open in Maharashtra at all as scheduled till Friday afternoon. In many parts of the country, including centers such as Pune, Nasik, Bharuch etc. it *still* hasn’t opened going into Saturday. After Mumbai, Pune is the biggest grossing center of Maharashtra. In Mumbai, it finally opened in only 13 halls at some multiplexes like Fun Republic in Andheri in afternoon where it got about 75% response upon opening. However the film continues to be losing as many single screen theaters and a few multiplexes in the city are still are not screening the film, affecting collections.

In interiors, the notion that a movie called ‘My Name is Khan’ would be getting a 80-100% response in small town India not only intuitively was always hard to believe, it happens to be flat out blatantly incorrect now also now that it’s released. The typical response in single screen/smaller centers for My Name is Khan is more like 8% not 80%. For example, Tarun cinema in Durg (Chattisgarh) has no more than 8% bookings for MNIK coming up. And this can be verified immediately by calling 09329108274 or visiting. In Cinemagic in Bikaner (Rajasthan), the Friday evening collections are around 10% which is also extremely poor.

In hindi belt centers like Kanpur UP, the evening shows are going about 40%, which is poor. In Meerut (west UP) evening shows are around 25% which is very poor. Indore (MP) multiplexes are about 65% which is average. Jaipur (Rajasthan) evening shows are going around 40-50% which is average/below average.

It is true the film has opened to good collections of 80%+ in Bangalore and Hyderabad multiplexes and Delhi , but it is also true that in other extreme parts many multiplexes don’t have bookings of even 30% despite not having any shiv sena there. For example Fame Highlandpark in Calcutta has no more than 30% bookings right now (Friday evening 6PM IST). And this too can be verified directly at the theater.

Overall all the publicity apart, MNIK is having an average Friday outside of 3-4 media centers where it has opened well. The film can still pick up or it can crash tomorrow even further. But its decisive indicator will be Monday. As where the bookings are good, they were similar for Kurbaan (the flop on similar theme) last November also, and Kurbaan released on massive prints before sinking away. So monday will be first major indicator as to whether the movie is a similar loser, earner or a disastrous sunk reject commercially.

    Industry News Network :

  • Many towns in North Karnataka observed shutdown Friday and some have even announced shutdown Saturday. This affected the collections of “MNIK” on the opening day.

“Generally, Shah Rukh’s films open to a huge response, but somehow ‘MNIK’ has not got a good opening in Hubli and Belgaum, two major centres of North Karnataka region,” said well-known exhibitor and distributor Venkataraman Babji, who is the owner of Padma theatre in Hubli.

  • It is good movie but not outstanding movie like 3 idiots. Media is totally totally baised for this movie. It has hardly collected 50% of 3 idiots collection for 1st day but the Media is making like heaven. No website has given clear figures till now as they might be planning that how to make this movie exceptional on papers. SRK is always famous for this. Check on IBOS…Some halls were only 5-10% occuiped. Movie might be good but not exceptional like Media is telling.
