In the biggest battle of the year, the two ‘perfectionists’ of Bollywood could clash in December! Its Hrithik Roshan vs Aamir Khan, Kites vs 3 Idiots.
Rakesh Roshan, the producer of Kites, has just confirmed the release date of the Hrithik – Barbara Mori – Kangana Ranaut starrer to December 18th 2009. Aamir Khan’s much awaited 3 Idiots releases just a week later on 25th December 2009.
We think Hrithik’s Kites could end up loosing the battle and here are some reasons why.
1) The budget of Kites is well over 50 crores and Reliance has purchased the movie for a whopping 100 crores. Now while the opening week could be anywhere in the range of 45 – 50 crores, the second week is bound to be affected big time due to the release of 3 Idiots.
2) Big releases a week apart is probably more dangerous than a same day release. The first release, in this case Kites, will no longer be the first choice for a viewer. This could mean a drop of 50% or more in Week 2, a blow the film may never recover from.
3) The number of prints in circulation for Kites will decrease drastically, further affecting collections.
So overall, we think its better for Kites to release a week before or clash with 3 Idiots during the Christmas weekend.
P.S – There are rumours that 3 Idiots could be postponed to early January 2010!

Guys as a great Aamir Khan fan i would never insult a talented actor like Hrithik, In fact i admire both aamir and Hrithik but…i love Aamir more as I grew up watching his films since Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak! And even after that what did he do?… he does one film every two years, while Aamir makes films every year : he acts, produces, directs he always works hard to give the best for Bollywood, Aamir did 9 films this decade: 2 flops but don’t forget that 5 of them are among the best in Bollywood: Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen par and 3 idiots besides they were all successful in BO and he did all this despite he took a 5 years break, while Hrithik did his KMG, SRK: swades, devdas, Veer-Zaara, but yeah Aamir is doing an unbelievable job since Rang de basanti, a success ratio that everyone dreams about, Ghajini and 3 idiots alone are unbeatable…let us not talk about TZP, Rang de bsanti and Fanaa; by the way tell me what did Hrithik do after Koi Mil Gaya to be hits?:
2004-Lakshya: Flop(someone consider it as great loool is was a decent film, but Hrithik acted well as usual)
2005-No release for Hrithik
2006-Krrish and Dhoom 2: Blockbusters(Krrish was a mediocre attempt for introducing india’s first onscreen superhero, and Dhoom 2 was boring and overacted like the first)
2007-No release for Hrithik
2008-Jodhaa Akbar: Semi-Hit(excellent film, one of the best )
2009-No release for Hrithik
2010-Guzaarish and kites: Flops(I adore Hrithik’s acting in both but films were not that good)
SO YOU CAN’T SAY THAT AAMIR’S FILMS ARE ALL SUCCESSFUL BECOZ HE DOES ONLY FEW NUMBER OF FILMS; in fact in these years(post 2006) Aamir did the same number of films that Hrithik did but more successful and better in all terms, Jodhaa Akbar swept 50 award, but lagaan swept even more it was even named on the list of 50 films of world cinema to watch before you die and it’s the only Indian film to feature on this list , Jodhaa Akbar was nominated at the BAFTA, but Lagaan was nominated in the Academy, BAFTA, Global film awards all nominations by Aamir’s Name…and Aamir made Ashtosh. Before lagaan who knew him? No one…so thanks to Aamir Lagaan was made it was undoubtedly the best of Bollywood, it was our pride…and don’t forget Aamir directs Ashtosh and Ashutosh directs Hrithik, SRK…, as I said I won’t compare Hrithik and Aamir as they’re not comparable but I’ll compare their films: ok let’s take KNPH and KMG, true these two were undoubtedly good films but won’t be remembered as great films like Dil Chahta Hai and rang De Basanti, Krrish and Dhoom 2 are big hits but not the biggest blockbuster of all time like Ghajini and 3 idiots and don’t come close in quality and critical acclaim, Jodhaa Akbar was a great film but not a masterpiece like Lagaan which I think it has much, much more heart (and hard work!) behind it, it was made in a wonderful way so heart touching for me,one can live and feel every moment in it…
But If you want only to talk about BO success Let’s see what both were doing since 2004 and 2005:
Hrithik:1 flop, 2 blockbusters, semi-hit, 2 flops
Aamir:1 flop, 3 supehits, 2 all time blockbusters(the biggest of all time)
So 6 films for each but whose are better… it’s clear now…
True Aamir had many flops in the 90’s but talking about quality and acting they were great:
Dil hai Ki manta Hai Nahi: so awesome
Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar: redefined classic films I recommend everyone to watch and then comment about our time films…no comparison
Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke: the romance at its best
Andaz Apna Apna(FLOP but best comedian film ever, and one of the greatest pieces )
Rangeela: I looove this film
Ghulam: yes it was an excellent action film
Sarfarosh:exellent film
Earth:one of the best it was even selected for oscars
They all were great films and among the best though they weren’t successful at box office and
One can face flops, hits it happens, Hrithik had many flops and hits and Aamir too! so who said Aamir hadn’t flops? Apart from Qayamat se Qaymat Tak, Dil and Raja Hindustani all his films were flops or average in the 90’s… but now he has totally changed he has got the intelligence to choose good scripts that can appeal audience and make them big hits…Aamir is different now, life never stops we’re here to commit mistakes and learn from them and that’s what he’s doing, When he started acting in QSQT I must admit, his acting wasn’t great then he was just OK, but by the years he has evolved a lot as an actor, he has worked more on his acting skills and since Jo Jita Wohi Sikandar or maybe Rangeela he comfirmed his talent, and his performances were all great after that…so what? it’s good to improve just look at Salman did something change about him? 20 years in the industry but nothing new in his acting skills, while junior actors have already overtaken him in acting ability, did you watch Shahid’s Kaminey I swear Salman would never be able to compete with this one! Did you watch Ranbir’s Wake Up Sid or Ajab Prem ki Ghzab Kahani, his acting was miles ahead of Salman’s Wanted, Veer, and even Dabangg !
Yes Aamir wasn’t a huge star in his early carrer even Salman was bigger than him when it comes to popularity and the main reason is that Aamir had a chocolate looks, he was so soft and innocent, he appeared as a lover boy from the first film, mainly known as a romantic hero plus he didn’t take the risk of trying intense roles, peple thought he’ cannot pull off difficult roles, while Salman was the macho-man, he did nothing exept showing his body so that attracted the audience and gained him many female fans especially, but the thing is that I’m happy for Aamir’s improvement he has no doubt overtaken SRK who gave from his start two of the best performances of Hindi Cinema: Darr and Baazigar, everyone thought that he’s the best actor and that’s true he was the best in those years but since Dil to Pagal Hai he has lost his own Credibility unfortunately…and after apart from Chak De India and Swades all his films were almost the same…
Looks like Hrithik is going Aamir’s way looool, but it’s too early Hrithik you’re still in your first carrer’s decade dude! 1 film in every 2 years!!!Even Shahid is going aamir’s way didn’t you notice? Yeah they’re all learning from him, and that’s good, that’s what I love about Hrithik he’s very talented but he Is down to earth he considers himself as junior and don’t want to compete with senior actors but unfortunately some come here and rate him ahead of great actors…
And about who changed Bollywood in the past few years . i won’t consider Hrithik’s Dhoom 2 or Krrish which are nothing but just emulating western films and were made fun by many non-indians as they changed bollywood(in fact Dhoom 2 ruined bollywood it was so suck, so shameful!),maybe they changed Bollywood but for worse! they are all up for devaluing the culture, bringing crazy kiya re & dhoom machale type song and lowering the class of acting in Hindi cinema! (by the way that has nothing to do with Hrithik) I won’t consider an ordinary masala film like Kaho Na Pyaar Hai as it changed Bollywood as well!But Jodhaa Akbar no doubt was an exellent film that Hrithik did after all it’s Ashutosh guys!
On the other hand when you look at Aamir’s films: Sarfarosh, Earth, Lagaan, dil Chahta Hai, Rang De Bsanti, Taare Zameen Par and 3 Idiots you’ll see what Aamir really contributed to Bollywood every film brings something new to the viewers…
True, Aamir started the new millieum with a big Flop, wich was undoubtedly the worst of aamir’s carrer with Hrithik’s Kaho Na Pyaar Hai But after that he hasn’’t had a film miss, just look at 2001 he undoubtedly proved that he’s the best among of all that year he won’t commit the same mistake again, he gave two of the best films ever :Lagaan: no need to talk about it, Dil Chahta Hai: If there’s a film which changed our industry and made others watch our films it’s Dil Chahta Hai, truly a masterpiece and undoubtedly the coolest Indian film ever made, i always wonder y cant they make these kind of indian movies nowadays? it was the film which remind us what modern Bollywood is capable of. Unfortunately, the whole industry and the young movie-goers these days are only interested in remix style films, they don’t care about the concept!.,Mangal Pandey had the highest opening notes but it didn’t succeeded as aamir wanted, yet his performance rocked the film undoubtedly , Rang De Basanti: A masterpiece, few films are maid with such Exellence, Taare Zameen Par: I don’t think there’s another film that changed the thinking of others of Bollywood more than This one! In America it has become a subject, by making this movie aamir khan has occupied the top entry in my list and can’t be outdone until somebody can come up with something more profound than this one. A billion superhit movies like DDLJG, K3G or Dabangg can not even think of competing with this one …
, And Finally 3 Idiots: The best combination ever: Aamir –Raju-Vinod it couldn’t have been better! Probably the best entertaining film of the decade and the highest grossing film ever up to date along with Ghajini, I admire the way Aamir contributes Classic films through commercial cinema which is not easy at all as we know people mainly prefer masala films but aamir’s capacity to make such films hits is just mind-blowing! So I don’t Think Quantity here matters, when you do less films it’s not evident that they’ll tern hits let Blockbusters!: see Hrithik does one film in 2 years still they’re not huge hits! It’s a bit too early for Aamir’s recent films to be considered classics but give them a little time. 3 Idiots will be remembered as a great film but now it is only 2 years old! 15 years from now we will look back and consider 3 Idiots as a great hit, mark my words.
So you do think that Nowdays films are better than old films! I actually don’t think we will see something more romantic than Qayamat Se Qaymat Tak or Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, I don’t think we’ll see something like Sholay again, a classic film like Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar…almost 99% of the films made today are crap!
And about Rakesh Roshan being the best director, well I don’t really agree, he’s certainly a good director but not Great, don’t talk about Krrish because in such films Technology takes over the director’s seat, there are many other directors who deliver much better quality in direction techniques than Mr.Rakesh Roshan including: Raju Hirani, Rakeysh Mehra, Ashutosh, Vishal Bhadwaj, Sunajy Leela Bhansali…I thought Sunjay would win the director of the decade but as usual Mr. Rakesh sweeps all awards, I still can’t believe he won the best film award for Krrish hold it man!…so unfair for others…
As for Looks, I personnaly don’t care, and I think we should forget looks when it comes to a 46-year old! but No Doubt that Aamir is Good-Looking and attractive just watch him in old films then comment he has by far the best looks in the 90’s soo cute, But even now he still looks young compared with other Khans right?
The only thing that Aamir really lacks is Height, we all know that causes many problems for any man let for an actor But still that doesn’t matter, he has a huge presence onscreen and his acting skills speak volumes , his talent is HIGHT! See Al Patchino guys i don’t think there’s an actor who can stand next to him Right? is he tall though? Is he?, so height shouldn’t be a negative point to undergrade an actor, there are lot of handsome, tall, sexy, hot dudes considering themselves as actors but the fact is that they’re practically good for nothing apart showing their bodies they can’t act for their lives(ex: John, Zayed Khan, Upen Patel, Arjun Rampal…and many others!)
Well talking about Dancing i won’t also consider him a great dancer but certainly he’s quite good in dancing someone said he cannot dance!? I don’t think he’s that bad he’s fine but to be honest no one dances like Hrithik,…But the thing that i like about aamir’s dancing is that he puts everything in every moment, just watch he’s face when he’s dancing, INCREDIBLE perfect body language!
So in my opinion No One changed Bollywood and took us far higher more than Aamir! Even if he never makes another film, TZP has already changed Hindi cinema forever.This is what I call by great film, almost all people in the industry WORK FOR MONEY AND DO EVERYTHING ASKED TO WITHOUT BEING RESPONSIBLE TO SOCIETY , Do you really think guys that when we try to copy Western films we’ll make others like our films? Why is Bollywood becoming worse today? because we’re not finding our own Identity: some films like Sholay, Mother India, Qayamat Se Qayamt Tak are real films and will always remain alive in our hearts!If a film is inspired from some American film and it’s made in an indian way it’s OK even they make films inspired from ours, But some Shit like Dhoom2: no story, no concept, nothing worth watching just trying to look sexy, I didn’t get what the whole film was all about at the end! it was the shame of Bollywood!! Is this an Indian Film? I do agree that Indian Cinema has been in its nascent stages since forever Indian movies have a lot of potential…now only if we stopped aping the West and find our own element like American Cinema!
Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan…the history of Bollywood movie will remember this sequence!
Unfortunately Kites had nothing new and flopped miserably while 3 idiots was the biggest surprise or should I say gift of the year I won’t talk here you all know, yeah I wish Aamir give us every year such packed gift in Chrismas Lolz, … but I hope Hrithik’ll do better in future all the best with Hrithik’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and Aamir’s Rima Kagti’s Untitled Project, God Bless!
Hahaha I felt sorry for all those who were supporting kites(even indicine team) and expecting it be a big Blockbuster film. I went to watch Kites with high expectations as it had the pototional of being a masterpiece and even better than 3 idiots , But it was truly a misadventure: nothing new or different than any old American film, a lot of overacting, so boring: one of those movies where sleeping is necessary, and a ridiculous overrated ending trying to emulate that of Titanic Lolz …it left me with a bad taste in the mouth. Very honestly Hrithik disappointed us a lot with his Kites, expected much more from him. wth was that? Is this the quality of Rakesh Roshan’s films?
