Shahrukh Khan’s Happy New Year has fallen short of the lifetime collections of Salman Khan’s Kick, which remains the highest grosser in India this year. While Happy New Year was expected to beat Kick after a record-breaking opening day of Rs 44.97 cr, the film failed to show enough growth on its first Sunday and the drop on Monday meant that the Farah Khan film was always going to find it difficult to cross the 233 crore business of Kick.
In hindsight, the battle for the top grosser of the year could have been a lot closer if Shahrukh Khan had decided to release his film on the Diwali holiday (23rd October). The film lost out on business in the South and other parts of India which do well even on Diwali puja day because of holidays. Last year, Krrish 3 released 3 days before Diwali and still managed to set a record on the day after Diwali – which is considered to be the best day for business. The Post-Diwali holiday collections would have probably been a little lower than Rs 44.97 crore, but the previous day business could have been anywhere between 20-25 cr, which isn’t a bad start considering Diwali pooja.
While Diwali is still a great period to release films, Eid and Christmas weekends are probably better for film business as films tend to sustain better after a good opening.
Overall, the Kick vs Happy New Year comparison once again proves that star-power is judged based on the opening that a film gets. After the initial hype subsides, the content completely takes over. Kick found more appreciation amongst the masses, which is the reason why it sustained well even after a good opening week. In fact, the second week business makes it obvious – Happy New Year collected Rs 35.87 crore with 3 holidays (including Sunday), whereas Kick collected Rs 51.01 crore with just one holiday on Sunday – a difference of Rs 15.14 crore in week 2! Pretty much sums it up, doesn’t it?

Another downer for HNY was that it isn’t an action movie, hence it didn’t have an incredible repeat value.
Star power tells the opening nd opening of 45 crores tells everything. Srk is far bigger star than anyone in bollywood but hny couldn’t sustain well after that still its great collections. Definitely i m a little disappointed but srk will be back with a bang bcz he is the king. I like salman nd amir too but srk is the king of hearts no comparison with srk.

At the end of the day it is more clear that happy new year was not that appreciated as kick..kick had better word of mouth than happy new year that’s why it is way less than kick in the final outcome..

the fact is that srk has never been a saleable hero who makes the film work only on his own shoulders unlike aamir and salman. the history also says that most of his big hits were with YRF, dharma, big heroines, most of the Diwali releases, romantic genra (which was very popular at that time). that’s it. most of his mega hits had evergreen and established and popular actresses like madhuri, kajol, juhi, rani, aishwarya, preity, kareena, deepika, Katrina, etc. he always used to rely on madhuri or kajol and now he is relieing mostly on kareena, Katrina and deepika. he can’t give ghajini or dabangg kind of blockbusters only on his name. that’s it. he has always been overhyped by media. in overseas also he got these hits due to yrf. but now overseas throne is taken by aamir and he can’t break my name is khan’s record. so it’s stupidity to call him the overseas king as well. so, after so many facts, all great illogical srk fans, accept the fact that srk is not a king and SALMIR are kings of Bollywood.

Oh no. It happen what we srkians had in our nightmares. I mean the wrong title, I said earlier if the movie named happy diwali than it will burst crackers in pagalpur with breaking ww collection of Avtar, but most of us couldn’t understand that this film releases on happy diwali instead of happy new year. Other wise as it is our prime right from last 6 years to give excuses for king under performance despite everything in favour of him.
Film not get released in our planet where 3.7 billions fans living under the kingdom of (no no its not srk) complan boy.
Srk himself given free entrance to everywhere mostly in overseas as he sometimes feels insecure in India, most of the money which our full over actors film collected just due to black sell of ticket outside theatre.
The film was released in mere 50 screens ww but as everything associated with king is huge so we publicised film released on 5000 screens same formula which we used to declare fanbase of srk from complan method of multiplying. Still 180cr domestic and 340 cr lifetime ww is huge.
On this prestigious occasion I am searching for complan boy @sss who from 11 months completely ruined the every post by his nonsensical comment.

30 million $ overseas collected 13.5 $ million so far.
