Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil has done well in its first extended weekend at the box office, collecting Rs 67.46 crore in the first 5 days of its release. The big days came on Tuesday (holiday for Republic Day) and Saturday.
The film opened very well on Sunday too and business was excellent through the day before the T20 cricket match affected the business of both Kaabil and Raees, 7PM onwards.
Monday will decide where Kaabil goes. Good holds during the weekdays will ensure that Kaabil will retain most of its shows and also get the bigger capacity screens. The audience who watched Raees (which was clearly the first choice in the first weekend) could opt to watch Kaabil in theatres this coming weekend.
If the trend doesn’t fall in favour of the film, the Roshans have only themselves to blame for going ahead with clash and ruining a potential big grosser for Hrithik Roshan. Even a top superstar like Shah Rukh Khan decided to avert the clash with Sultan, quickly realising that noone can challenge the might of Salman Khan during the Eid weekend – even though he had a film that was tailor-made for the Eid period. Raees will lose money too because of the clash, but SRK has clearly won the perception game here which should help him keep the Christmas 2018 weekend all for himself.
Side note: There has been a lot of debate over the ‘inflated’ box office collections of Kaabil and we’ve been talking to a people in the trade about all the figures that have been doing the rounds. We’ve also been gathering collections from various circuits as well as multiplex chains. The actuals or the ‘truth’ lies somewhere in between. The collections are nowhere as low as what’s being quoted as the ‘trade number’, nor is it as high as what the producers have been quoting.
It’s high time for the industry to get an independent credible source, which works with producers, distributors and exhibitors – verifies and reverifies the figures with multiple sources – before putting out the final numbers. Even though it’s impossible to release accurate figures on a daily basis, numbers could be put out after the weekend or at the end of the first week.
In a clash like this where ego, perception and reputation built over entire careers are at stake, absolutely anything is possible. There is no source that’s ‘holier-than-thou’ here. Smart manipulation of figures can happen at every level, even at the exhibitor (theatre) level and those who are willing to shell out money, can get anything done. The smallest of margins can make the good to look excellent and the average to look poor. The game is in the smallest of margins.

I have stop following BOI since last few years..
Following are the reasons:
a) Shoddy UI, spelling mistakes in their articles, tells lot about their seriousness and quality focus
b) Keeps on changing verdict of the movies basis their convenience
e.g. Jodha akbar, ghajini
c) They are a trade website but they behave like judge..
Case in point calling DCH a poor film and publish articles about that
d) Even though Dangal was clearly the biggest hit since Gadar still they were in denial and kept on publishing shitty stuff and undermining it’s achievement
e) Specially liberal when it comes to SRK and Salman movies
I have more reasons to prove why BOI is just a piece of shit but 5 are more than enough for now..

Distributors are closest to exhibitors in film trade not just in bollywood but worldwide. They actually get reported by exhibitors on the nightly basis.
Distributors need not contact producers at all as they have already paid a lump sum to producers to buy all-india, all-international rights for motion pictures (KAABIL-50 Cr, RAEES-65 Cr)
Hence, here is the true real collection reported by distributors as exhibitors collected at Boxoffice. I cannot explain to you the boxoffice business any better than this

What indicine said is manipulation is from both the sides so called ‘trade’ and producers but Boi was the first to manipulate as they pisted that estimates first which led to all these stuff as an agitated rakesh roshan also increased the collection just like Boi reduced so you cannot blame them its tit for tat but the real issue is the credibility of boi as they were against kaabil or shall i say with raees so the collections of raees from producers and Boi match and this i am saying confidently because its not lIke sharuk has never manipulated as we all know who started this all stuff with jab tak gain jaan and who is the master of manipulation by hny opening but this time they smartly tied up with Boi.So i do think its not a mistake of roshan’s and no one should allege them so the collections of the movie should be 60crs something but as you know its tit for tat and the real culprit is Boi#shame

BOI gives kaabil collection without adding night shows. Thats happened in other hrithik films like krrish 3 and bang bang. BOI is not a trade side they are SRK created website.

Fan wars aside, I just want answer from one sensible SRK fan how HNY did 44+ crs in 2014 despite released on 5000 (fake) screens with less occupancy than when Dangal (4850 screens), Raees + Kaabil (2500 + 2300 = 4800) and PRDP could not achieve same with more occupancy with higher ticket prices than in 2014 ? You are creating your own stories and asking me to believe those rather on the words of this article by Indicine. Is there any evidence or any Bollywood site declared that SRK left Eid 2016 to get Christmas 2018 from YRF ? If you would have said that Raees was not completed I would have moved on without asking you anything but you are asking others to believe on your own perceptions. Sometime trying too much to be smart turns fatal, so be careful and do not give me any lame answers.
I will not say that the figures are inflated but what everyone will agree to the fact that the figure is not as low as the trade figure of BOI is showing. So we do have to find out why they are after Hrithik Roshan to pull his image down? inflating figure is true for all actors but when it comes to Hrithik, BOI tries its best to pull him down. What so many fans found out after catching BOI India red handed when BOI showed trade figure 9.50 crore of the first day of Kaabil and then switched to 7.5 crore previously estimated by BOI only to make themselves look accurate in estimating. So BOI can do anything to look themselves good and also will do anything to pull Hrithik’s pants off. Truth finally comes out and this time one must admit that BOI is no more a trust-able source to find out trade figure of a movie

The clash between Sultan and Raees would be harmful for the Raees more than sultan. The reason was simple and that is content. Sultan was clean family entertainer and universal looking movie while Raees is more inclined to mass films but Salman also has great stardom in Muslim centers & their too Raees can’t pull that big crowd against Sultan because of Salman dominance there. That was the basic reason of movement of Raees. Its not only about stardom, friendship and all but more because of content as Sultan is bigger and more universal film. But Raees should released on Bakri- Eid last year, it would have better collection than.
People who are complaining fake collections should understand first what’s the credibility of the BOI or other trade figures, they can be wrongly estimated. It is possible that these sites are not neutral. To understand the logic, kaabil producer figure for sat was 13.54cr with around 2200 screen and trade is reporting 2cr less. You can see the latest hit Dear Zindagi collected 11.25cr with around 1200 screen on its first saturday, jungle book collected 13cr on its first saturday with 1600 screen. Even Befikre with negative WOM collected 11.6cr on its first saturday with same screen count as kaabil. For kaabil WOM is very positive and trend is better than these films even with competition. Occupancy wise except for first day its giving tough fight to raees. With this we can easily say that trade estimation of 11cr for sat is low, it could have been better. This is just an example it also applies to other days. At the end of the day its producer who can give right figure and its still a better choice to trust them then trust this trade figures.

The manipulation is done for most of the films and trade knows it. A reliable source informed us that in reality, Chennai Express did not break Ekk Tha Tiger opening day record and fell short of by a small margin. But they manipulate the figure a bit so that it can make headlines.
There is another hypocrisy that people tend to switch between official and trade figures depending on the situation. Along with fans, it even applies to producers. For example, Box Office India declared Prem Ratan Dhan Payo as the highest opener and the producers referred BOI and released an official statement. However, producers claimed that it crossed 200 cr but as per BOI, it did not.
It’s high time that we get a reliable source for tracking box office numbers so that no one can manipulate.

There is no way trade has underreported its as always with the case of hrithik movie its highly over reported by producers. Look at him now and look at how he used to be during dhoom 3 krissh 2 days his stardom is turning into the house of cards.
